[13:18:05] <RunningWithWind> Everyone having a good weekend?
[13:28:12] -!- norayr [norayr!~norayr@37.252.sq.ypj] has joined #soylent
[14:28:42] <janrinok> RunningWithWind, good afternoon! a bit late with my reply
[14:29:35] <janrinok> it is 16:28 here! A beautiful sunny day with a bit of a breeze
[14:30:05] <janrinok> and yes, I'm having a good weekend.
[16:55:29] <RunningWithWind> Nice, I am going through and trying to learn React command line today - good stuff
[16:55:49] <janrinok> best of luck
[16:56:51] <janrinok> I was out in the garden earlier, just sitting quietly before another week begins, enjoying the sunshine (and a beer)
[16:57:23] <RunningWithWind> Oh that sounds better.. I may have to look at that as well as an alternative :)
[16:59:12] <janrinok> it is early evening here. I've just made myself a dinner of turkey in cherry sauce (the cherries were past their best and needed eating) with veggies, and a glass of wine. I think my brain has had enough for today.
[17:46:09] <RunningWithWind> I just went outside based on that last chat and worked on my garden out front - good stuff!
[17:50:54] <janrinok> it is good to get away from the screen every now and then.
[17:51:07] <janrinok> You 2 submissions go out tomorrow
[17:51:13] <janrinok> *Your
[17:51:56] <RunningWithWind> Yeah - I work all day in front of a screen so trying to find some balance if possible - Heading to Ireland this late summer as a family vacation so looking forward to that
[17:52:03] <janrinok> The submission from a week or so back was all from the manufacturer and therefore is biases. However, we are searching for an second source so that we can use the material.
[17:52:21] <RunningWithWind> Oh awesome - trying to help on the flow of articles
[17:53:25] <janrinok> we prioritise subs from named community members providing that they are acceptable.
[17:53:46] <janrinok> Next comes ACs, and then bots.
[17:54:11] <RunningWithWind> That makes sense, trying to find a lane of articles that I like looking for and submitting
[17:54:28] <Bytram> Greeting all! Here, is is just 48F (9C) with a moderate breeze. Same is forecast all week. :(
[17:55:12] <janrinok> Bytram, hi bud - did you and Deuc get the IRC working?
[17:56:39] <RunningWithWind> Oh that sounds awesome - it is balmy 75 here - humid - upside there is always a strong breeze here
[17:56:50] <Bytram> Hi! We did work on it. Then my sister dropped by...
[17:56:59] <janrinok> ah, he mentioned that
[17:57:15] <Bytram> Hope to continue today.
[17:57:39] <janrinok> he should be around soon, it is only 7pm in his tz
[17:57:58] <Bytram> (I am waiting for his ping)
[17:58:18] <Bytram> nod nod
[17:59:22] <janrinok> He said something about a spurious character somewhere that shouldn't be there.
[17:59:25] <Bytram> How's the weather for you?
[18:00:19] <janrinok> brilliant. Nice sunny day, good breeze, but very pleasant outside. Did some garden work this AM, on here this afternoon, and I have just had my evening meal.
[18:03:14] <Bytram> sounds great!!
[18:09:02] <RunningWithWind> Heyah - Not sure it would be helpful but I would like to volunteer to rebuild the wiki if that is still a thing?
[18:10:49] <janrinok> It has been rebuilt and is available - but you have to prefix the link with https:// kolie left it off because his software is set to default to it - that should not be imposed on everybody.

[18:14:03] <janrinok> fab23, that is correct my bad - it seems that it is not on our own servers yet
[18:14:11] -!- Fnord666_ [Fnord666_!~Fnord666@925-300-434-342.ubr6.dyn.lebanon-oh.fuse.net] has joined #soylent

[18:14:35] <fab23> janrinok: everything is in the cloud :)
[18:14:50] <Bytram> unabailable !?
[18:14:57] <janrinok> including our 2 erstwhile leaders
[18:15:08] <Bytram> Fnord666: Greetings!

[18:15:18] <janrinok> Bytram use ^
[18:15:43] <Bytram> k
[18:16:10] <janrinok> And I think it is read only - but that shouldn't worry anyone but me I suppose
[18:17:37] <janrinok> I explained that all our training notes are on there and that without the wiki and a dev machine I cannot train any new staff. Kolie took it on as a priority. This 2 editor working is taking its toll
[18:17:38] <fab23> janrinok: its a MediaWiki, so you can create an account, so top left. :)
[18:17:51] <janrinok> he asked NOT to change it
[18:18:18] <Bytram> Has anyone run a "spider" over it to get a list of all (broken) links?
[18:18:28] <kolie> Yeah I mean literally to staging system I just didn't want people to start adding stuff to it and it's not really the official one so to speak
[18:18:31] <janrinok> I have (had?) an account but who knows what we have now....
[18:18:45] <janrinok> It is the only wiki we have
[18:18:49] <kolie> It should be the production data that was loaded in
[18:19:00] <janrinok> hi kolie!
[18:19:01] <kolie> Which should include the accounts
[18:19:34] <janrinok> Thank you very much. It is out of date but I can correct that myself
[18:19:39] <kolie> The only thing that wasn't copied over was the images I have them but I didn't load them in
[18:19:45] -!- Fnord666_ has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
[18:20:14] <janrinok> The images are vital, but no rush....
[18:20:44] <kolie> I can load them in Monday
[18:21:07] <Bytram> janrinok: there is/was a mediawiki, I think
[18:21:20] <janrinok> the training depends on each of the wiki, the images, and the pre-prepared training data that is in Dev
[18:22:13] <janrinok> Bytram, yeah, we are getting it all sorted. Someone else has managed to rescue an old version of the twiki too.
[18:22:24] <Bytram> I have/had a wiki acct too. ISTR that chromas did too?
[18:22:29] <kolie> I do have the t wiki data
[18:22:33] <janrinok> We can't do anything with it - but at least we have it
[18:23:08] <kolie> What's in it besides the technical documentation of the systems
[18:23:20] <janrinok> well, we will see.... kolie, can we go ahead and start editing it or would you rather that we wait?
[18:23:53] <janrinok> I would have to ask a techie. Procedures, lessons learned, I don't know?
[18:24:13] <kolie> Just know it's not backed up right at this time.
[18:24:35] <janrinok> The bits I looked at were which server has which services - but that is clearly a ball of chalk dust now
[18:25:08] <kolie> Im fine with edits and I'll put in data protection Monday as well
[18:25:32] <kolie> P
[18:25:44] <janrinok> I will wait until you are happy. I don't want to jeopardise what you have done
[18:29:38] <janrinok> We also need new pages for things like doxxing, what is acceptable/unacceptable/delete-able with second person/ delete-able immediately (e,g, child pornography etc)
[18:30:04] <janrinok> I've got a list of new topics that need to go in there...
[18:31:39] <janrinok> I'm curious, because I know some of those 'new' topics had already been written last year, but they don't appear to have reappeared. No problem, we go with what we have.
[18:32:07] <kolie> Yea only reason i mentiond it because its literaly the development copy. I can check for a newer dump.
[18:32:30] <kolie> There was a sql file i was given
[18:33:00] <janrinok> If you find one please use it, but otherwise I will have to accept what we have. (the frustration that this has caused is unbelievable)
[18:33:39] <kolie> Yeah ill b diligent in seen if there's a newer copy.
[18:33:44] <janrinok> It seems two steps forward and one step back - but it could be worse....
[18:34:25] <janrinok> kolie, thanks again, I appreciate it. I don't expect any volunteers until there is a clear statement of the future.
[18:34:38] <kolie> If not well have to run with what we got but ill ensure no more data whiplas goin forward more than 24 hours
[18:35:12] <Bytram> kolie: I should take a moment to introduce myself. My focus had been in submitting stories and doing QA on site code updates. That said, I really had my fingers in pretty much everything. I still keep an eye on things but after my 2 strokes, I have found that I read and type at a greatly reduced speed.
[18:35:35] <janrinok> Bytram understates his contibution....
[18:36:28] <Bytram> aww gee
[18:37:20] <janrinok> kolie - just so you don't get confused Bytram/MartyB are the same person.... just a reversed username because there were too many Matts in the early days
[18:38:06] <janrinok> Matts/Marty - sod it, you know what I mean..... :)
[18:44:06] <kolie> yeah hey man obviously I know of you but pleasure to finally speak with you and contribute here
[18:45:01] <kolie> I'm sorry to hear about your situation it's tough. seems like a couple of ushave health scares in the past couple years
[18:45:06] <Bytram> too many names that started with the letter "B". Things were much busier back then. Users would pop in or out of IRC at any time. Guess what that did to "tab completion" :/ Hence came the edict that ALL the "M"s had to change their name! That is when I changer from being known as Martyb to Bytram. BTW, I joined SoylentNews before the site even opened!! (Userid 76)
[18:46:16] <janrinok> And until recently he hadn't stopped doing any of the half dozen or so jobs that he did :)
[18:46:23] <chromas> I always assumed that was meant as a joke but I can't find it in the log
[18:46:57] <janrinok> chromas, I think we were still using stone tablets then
[18:47:31] <janrinok> You've lost them, haven't you? I knew this would happen....
[18:48:18] <kolie> i was like who is this bytram guy. i realized the reversal shortly after haha.
[18:48:22] <chromas> in a fit of rage, I broke them and then made the users eat gold and had to make them again but different this time
[18:48:35] <janrinok> lol
[18:49:11] <Bytram> chromas: That's *MY* recollection. Lots of things were tried in the earliest days -- before logging.
[18:50:50] <janrinok> This is what the site used to be like - Sunday evenings (for me) were a highlight of my week (but I do have some pretty crappy weeks...)
[18:50:59] <kolie> im not sure about the status of dev news coming up monday. definitely getting close.
[18:51:01] <Bytram> chromas: lol, indeed!1
[18:51:12] <Bytram> biab
[18:51:17] <janrinok> k
[18:51:40] <janrinok> Can't do everything at onece
[18:51:45] <janrinok> "once
[18:51:53] <janrinok> *once !!
[18:54:11] <kolie> what used to happen sunday evenings?
[18:54:31] <Bytram> janrinok: that's easy for YOU to say!
[18:57:21] <Bytram> kolie: A whole *lot* of chatting about nothing much in particular.
[18:57:44] <kolie> i was thinking years ago i shouldve registered earlier uid on sn.
[18:57:45] <janrinok> it was far more light hearted and a social event.
[18:58:04] <kolie> i still regret not getting two digits lol
[18:58:12] <kolie> even more so now
[18:58:21] <janrinok> any uid lower than 5000 is considered to have been with us from the start.
[18:58:34] <kolie> yea inwaited a ccouple weeks if i recall
[18:58:38] <Bytram> it was ACTIVE and light-hearten.
[18:58:41] <janrinok> That 5000 limit only took a very short time to be reached.
[18:59:07] <kolie> irc is fornperl beards..fewver of us relics every month
[19:01:00] <janrinok> it wasn't always so but we have always had a preponderance of people with lots of experience in almost any field you can think of. We had a NASA or JPL guy, a doctor who was developing a new device in Africa for testing for whatever was the current disease of concern, etc
[19:01:47] <kolie> yea a lot of defense guys in my area and mens club. i always seem to find the enginerds.
[19:01:52] <janrinok> When they spoke/wrote you knew you were getting good information and they were usually happy to answer questions where they were permitted to do so
[19:02:01] <kolie> thats awesome
[19:02:10] <Bytram> I, too, regret not getting a 2-digit on /. I was reading it before there even where userid!
[19:02:44] <janrinok> Not so much now - but don't underestimate the guys and gals we have in the community.
[19:02:47] <Bytram> that is why I signed up early for SN
[19:02:53] <kolie> i wasnt a beginner slashdotter. was around awhile but not the start fir sure.
[19:04:04] <janrinok> I was a relative late-comer to /. - can't remember my UID but I suspect it resembled a telephone number
[19:05:47] <kolie> that's always what I liked was the conversations back and forth and just exploring the different perspectives
[19:07:17] <janrinok> The world should be perfect by now - we have put it to rights enough times on a Sunday!
[19:10:09] <Bytram> I finally signed up for /. when the userid were about to reach 200,000
[19:11:53] <kolie> alright going to park woth my boys ttyl
[19:13:31] <Bytram> "It's impossible to make anything foolproof 'cause fools are so ingenious."
[19:14:14] <Bytram> kolie: Nice to "meet" you.
[19:14:27] <janrinok> laters kolie
[19:15:29] <janrinok> time for me to call it a day - Bytram take care. Everybody, speak to you tomorrow. Laters!
[19:16:07] <Bytram> janrinok: ciao for now!
[19:16:14] <janrinok> !
[19:37:05] <kolie> bytram likewise. I was always fond of your content.
[19:37:38] <Bytram> thank you
[19:40:19] <Bytram> kolie: Only like ~5 more storied and I will have reached 11,111 stories :^)
[19:41:00] <Bytram> I 2ned some stories, too.
[19:41:43] <kolie> 1 in china symobilez birth and beginnings. 5 can be seen here as good luck.
[19:42:11] <kolie> ill take that as an auspicious day when you greenlight tbe 5th
[19:43:04] <Bytram> nice!
[19:44:53] <kolie> I mean one's also for winners right so there is that
[20:36:30] <RunningWithWind> Nice! That is a ton - I am on number 4 :)
