[04:30:38] <halibut> Bytram: Is either of these the discussions you were looking for? https://logs.sylnt.us https://logs.sylnt.us

[04:30:40] <systemd> ^ 03#soylent | Logs for 2021-11-19 ( https://logs.sylnt.us )
[04:42:43] <halibut> The copy paste discussion goes on for a while, but I think everything is there. The one about saving terminal sessions mentions a script, but I think the rest was done via DMs (PMs?). I think the scripts mentioned just used particular directory names, saved/restored the CWD (probably via the PWD variable, but there are other ways), used ``history -a histdump'' to save history, and ``history -r
[04:42:49] <halibut> histdump'' to restore them.
[04:44:51] <halibut> Actually, probably ``history -w histdump'' instead of ``history -a histdump'', or maybe the ``-a'' version but removing any previous file first ... there are various methods.
[04:45:53] <Bytram> halibut: thanks for the try, but it was in just the past few day and prolly less than a week.
[04:52:52] <Bytram> this was about saving the settings (current dir; command history; screen location & size & location) for all of my currently-open terminal windows. IIRC it was something like: (5-8)character-HYPHEN-(5-8)charaters
[04:54:01] <halibut> I do not recall seeing anything like that in the channels I listen in on. Any chance it was discussed in a different channel (perhaps when the site was down)?
[04:54:14] <Bytram> it's late and I'm tired, will check back when I get up tomorrow
[04:54:23] <halibut> Have a nice night.
[04:54:58] <Bytram> I have ~20 channels open right now!
[04:55:14] <Bytram> thanks! And same to you!
[04:55:53] <halibut> One of the links I posted for for saving the working dir and command history, but would not touch screen location and size.
[04:56:40] <halibut> I'll let you know if I recall anything about window size/location.
[04:57:23] <Bytram> imagine something like hibernate/resume.
[04:57:35] <Bytram> thanks again...laters!
[05:04:25] <halibut> Quick search online suggests one of the following: dconf-editor, gnome-session-properties, gconf-editor, and/or lwsm (linux-window-session-manager), but I do not think any of them would restore terminal contents (unless the terminals were running a specific command that could save and restore history).
[05:05:28] <halibut> I also see a gsettings command. So far, {g,d}conf-editor most closely matches what was described.
[05:08:16] <halibut> If you meant windows within screen instead of X windows, there appears to be a screen-session program that does something like that.
[05:12:04] <halibut> That's all I see. I learned some interesting things. If you remember what it was, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
