[01:18:34] <Bytram> ~eds I am going to be working on trying to upgrade my laptop for the next day or so. Will be mostly unable to get online except by using my cell phone. I've stuffed the queue as best I can. I'd very much appreciate if it we could try and keep a half-day's worth of stories queued up. If something urgent comes up, TMB, cmn32480, and Fnord666 have my phone number.

[08:54:32] <janrinok> ~tell AzumaHazuki I hope that things went well for you yesterday - when do you get the results? We'll keep our fingers crossed for you!
[10:24:29] <janrinok> Bytram - why doesn't your message to ~eds also go to cmn32480, fnord666? I can understand updates being required for the latest eds, but surely the list is more up-to-date than it currently appears?
[14:31:11] <Bytram> janrinok: It's something on exec... I have no control over who is on the list. :( You are correct it omitted Fnord666, but it did at least include cmn32480.
[14:33:11] <Bytram> Getting exec updated is... not easy. Maybe this is something that chromas would like to write a command for? e.g.: =eds [help | add | list | delete]
[14:33:50] <Bytram> Hmmm, I wonder if there is an IRC command to list all the nicks currently in a channel?
[14:34:21] <janrinok> HexChat has a window which displays exactly that information
[14:35:32] <janrinok> what IRC s'ware are you using?
[14:35:52] <Bytram> yeah, but I was looking for a command... a quick search may have done it! Hold on, I'm seeing: /JOIN #chan and then /NAMES #chan (cf: https://stackoverflow.com)

[14:41:47] <janrinok> is your new lappy up and running now?
[14:42:23] -!- spiraldancing has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
[14:44:36] <janrinok> Bytram, ping
[14:45:05] <Bytram> No. By the time we got to at least 12 hours of stories queued up, it was late and I was tired. Decided it best to try the drive copy (do NOT want to do that in the wrong direction!) when I was more rested. Also wanted to be a little more comfortable with the syntax and semantics of ddrescue. At least I was able to burn systemrescuecd to a DVD. Also,
[14:46:43] <Bytram> when rebooting my lappy, it takes me the better part of 15 minutes to half an hour to get all the programs and windows loaded and located where I like them. With hibernate/restore, is easy peasy. But, if I am going to clone my hard disk, I would prefer to do it from a quiescent condition, so that means starting after a known, good, shutdown.
[14:47:07] <janrinok> understood - have you got a minute to chat?
[14:47:17] <Bytram> sure
[14:48:40] <janrinok> On the Early Warning story that you processed this am, you noted that it was a Phys.Org story taken from another source. You do realise that it was submitted by a bot don't you? How is the bot supposed to know? It is the editor's job to look for things like that, isn't it?
[15:34:22] <Bytram> Oh, the short answer is that I just recently discovered that -- much like ScienceDaily -- phys.org often presents a nearly verbatim of something sourced elsewhere -- which likely has better presentation (italics, links within story, pictures), and oftentimes have a direct link to the corresponding Journal Article.
