[06:54:13] <chromas> woohoo. KDE finally got independent desktop switching per screen, decades and decades after everyone else had it
[07:54:56] <Ingar> citation needed
[07:56:56] <chromas> no
[07:59:27] <Ingar> I use Arch, so I can no longer update
[07:59:41] <chromas> arch has it
[07:59:51] <chromas> don't even need the infected aur :)
[08:00:09] <Ingar> chromas: I know :-p
[08:00:17] <halibut> I'll take a Citation ( https://en.wikipedia.org ). Just park it at my local airport and mail me the keys.
[08:00:18] <chromas> time to switch to artix
[08:00:22] <systemd> ^ 0303Cessna Citation family - Wikipedia
[08:00:40] <chromas> is it a paper plain?
[08:01:05] <Ingar> chromas: I only use a limited number of AUR packages, and none of that obscure crap
[08:01:49] <Ingar> up 40 days, 17:03
[08:01:56] <Ingar> yeah, I neeed to run updatese
[08:01:56] <chromas> The correct setup is a mix of snaps, appimages and flatpaks all at the same time
[08:02:23] <Ingar> chromas: you need to run a few of those in vms for good measure
[08:02:27] <chromas> be sure to update archlinux-keyring first 'cause pacman isn't smart enough to do it on its own
[08:02:53] <Ingar> veryfing signatures is for pussies
[08:03:12] <chromas> good point. I think they only just added signatures shortly before I started arching
[08:04:05] <Ingar> back then I was still using LFS
[08:04:40] <chromas> Now instead of Linux From Scratch, you run Linunx in Scratch
[08:05:10] <Ingar> isn't arch like scratch but spelled backwards?
[08:06:06] <chromas> I think backwards is spelled backwards
[08:06:32] <chromas> arch is like opensuse but without snapper and sudo using the root password
[08:11:00] <Ingar> ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL
[08:11:08] <Ingar> root passwords are for pussies
[08:11:36] <chromas> setuid all the bins
[08:32:52] <fab23> As usual I would recommend the Beautifully Source Distribution
[08:45:08] <Ingar> I always confuse that with kinky sex
[08:46:10] <fab23> If I would need it on the Desktop, I guess I would try https://ghostbsd.org as it is FreeBSD based.
[08:46:12] <systemd> ^ 0303A simple, elegant desktop BSD Operating System
[08:46:45] <Ingar> fab23: if I'd go BSD, it would go for vanilla
[08:46:58] <Ingar> I've actually done freebsd before
[08:47:05] <fab23> ah perfect
[08:47:06] <Ingar> mostly server/router side
[08:47:32] <fab23> I also only have it on servers and OPNsense routers
[08:48:10] <Ingar> redoing the home lan/lab is on the TODO list, but only as a side effect of other work that needs to be done
[08:48:42] <Ingar> this house needs it's electrical installation redone
[08:48:47] <Ingar> *its
[08:49:16] <Ingar> and upgrade the cat5E to something more modern
[08:50:12] <Ingar> (if it even is E )
[08:52:47] <fab23> the thing is that for longer distances you can not do more then 1 GB over copper, so for some longer distances I would use optical and switches with SFP+, so you can start with 1 GB (which is affordable) and upgrade when needed.
[09:22:53] <Ingar> long distances are not an issue, I'd just like to upgrade LAN to 2.5G, have a few 10G lines, and improved connectivity to some areas that have none
[09:23:15] <Ingar> in the past you wouldn't need ethernet in the kitchen
[09:23:51] <fab23> :)
[09:24:41] <Ingar> mmm maybe it isn't a bad idea to work with a backbone and an extra switch
[09:26:20] <Ingar> uplink and server is at the front of the house
[09:26:46] <Ingar> running jsut a single line front to back might save me a whole lot of fsckery
[09:42:30] <chromas> 500gb fiber everywhere in the house
[10:00:51] <Ingar> maybe
[10:01:08] <Ingar> on the backbone
[10:03:20] <chromas> fiber-to-the-bone

[14:10:38] <fab23> =submit https://daringfireball.net
[14:10:39] <systemd> Submitting "Trump Mobile T1 Phone is a Gold"...
[14:10:40] <systemd> Sub-ccess! "03Trump Mobile T1 Phone is a Gold" (1p) -> https://soylentnews.org
[14:11:09] <fab23> hm, subject too long, full version: "Trump Mobile T1 Phone Is a Gold-Painted Two-Year-Old HTC U24 Pro"
[14:36:49] <janrinok> Just sub it as it is - we will sort the subject out during editing
[15:22:25] <fab23> it was more for the people here reading it
[15:23:37] <fab23> but it is also too short in the subs queue
[16:58:49] <janrinok> Yes, but that is OK. An editor can sort that out if/when the story is selected.
[17:00:50] <fab23> don't worry, is maybe not something worth discussing, silly gold stuff, it is now everywhere, even on Air Force One :)
[17:40:28] <kolie> Bru I love when ground says wait for the citation to pass and then follow to taxi. "Following the cessna".
[17:41:04] <chromas> [libation needed]
[17:41:17] <chromas> meaded
[17:42:00] <kolie> libation meaded
[19:25:22] <kolie> Also I love free BSD.
[19:30:08] <kolie> bru freebsd is on juneteenth?
[19:30:16] <kolie> thats hilarious.
