[05:22:21] <kolie2> 8 days thats pretty good I Think.
[06:22:50] <janrinok> kolie2, I am able to moderate my own comment on the live system. I have never tried to do that before and it would also border on moderation abuse, but the software doesn't seem to prevent it. Of course, one has to be logged in to moderate so it would be obvious to staff - but not to the community - what was happening.
[06:24:11] <janrinok> I'll ask someone else without a Seclev of 1 to try it out just to make sure.
[06:25:59] <janrinok> I'm not sure _why_ it is permitted - I suppose someone could make a comment and then decide that it was in the wrong thread/story and subsequently mark it as 'Off-Topic', but that would be a very rare occurrence.
[06:27:11] <janrinok> I don't think anyone would notice if it reverted to the previous setting.... [hint :)]
[06:29:06] <janrinok> as for moderating in the same story as they have commented - then yes, they most certainly can, and in fact we ask them to do so. For example, issuing a "Disagree" moderation really should be followed by a comment explaining _why_ the moderator disagrees. This is not enforced but it is encouraged.
[06:29:57] <janrinok> The argument against enforcing an explanation comment is that it rather compromises who made the moderation - which is not usually seen by the community in general.
[06:31:41] <janrinok> I will try to create some test accounts to check on the email - however, email addresses should not be duplicated in the database so it is not always straightforward.
[06:33:20] <janrinok> CORRECTION: I will ask someone with a Seclev of 1 to try moderating his/her own comment.

[08:39:08] <fab23> janrinok: as a regular user, I can not moderate my own comments
[08:39:34] <fab23> janrinok: on the live/production site
[08:40:18] <fab23> janrinok: the drop-down and [Moderate] button are missing.
[10:09:09] -!- aristarchus [aristarchus!~aristarch@205.147.ky.np] has joined #soylent
[10:13:05] <aristarchus> secret moderations are on par with anonymous flaggings, to defend the NeeOh KnotSeas who otherwise might be cancelled, or tried an executed for crimes against humanity (looking at you, chromas!)

[11:12:08] <janrinok> Are they missing just on your comments, or are they missing from the entire page?
[11:17:17] <janrinok> fab23, ^
[11:44:04] <fab23> janrinok: just on my own comments, as I guess it should be.
[13:10:18] -!- c0lo [c0lo!~c0lo@110.148.vov.izr] has joined #soylent
[13:53:59] <janrinok> Thanks, it was a question that kolie2 asked just up the page.
[13:55:00] <kolie2> Yea I think that's an admin thing for sure.
[13:55:02] <janrinok> kolie2, community cannot moderate their own comments
[13:55:20] <janrinok> both typing at the same time!

[17:51:35] <kolie2> the people jumping out saying perl so good - that was unexpected lol
[17:51:54] <kolie2> i mean shit python is what it is at the end of the day, but saying fix the perl that's interesting
[17:53:06] <kolie2> if people want immutable builds that build forever, any language, that's what nix is :)
[17:53:23] <kolie2> Did we need to nix our stack
[17:53:27] <kolie2> is that what hte community demands
[17:54:09] <chromas> They can say perl so good all they want, but since they won't help maintain it, you can just take their opinion and throw it on the ground
[17:54:37] <kolie2> Yea I mean I kind of layed that out - if you want to help here we are.
[17:54:53] <kolie2> I considered refactoring the perl into rehash 3
[17:55:00] <kolie2> but uhh, im not learning perl
[17:55:03] <kolie2> not that well.
[17:55:27] <kolie2> I'm going to mirror the repo if people have a problem with shithub.
[17:55:27] <chromas> perl 6
[17:55:30] <chromas> the one built on java
[17:57:03] <kolie2> "if the site ceases to attack humanity by ceasing to use github"
[17:57:27] <kolie2> gnu.org:
[17:57:28] <kolie2> gitlab.com — F
[17:57:28] <kolie2> Things that prevent gitlab.com from moving up to the next grade, C:
[17:57:28] <kolie2> Nonfree JavaScript is required for most basic actions, including bug filing. Additionally, a nonfree captcha guards registration. (C0)
[17:57:41] <kolie2> sorry thats the wrong one
[17:57:46] <kolie2> github.com — F
[17:57:46] <kolie2> Things that prevent github.com from moving up to the next grade, C:
[17:57:46] <kolie2> Important site functionality does not work without running nonfree JavaScript. (C0)
[17:57:48] <kolie2> There you go.
[17:57:58] <kolie2> The worst thing that github.com does is to encourage bad licensing practice: failure to include a license, failure to state the license on each source file, and failure to specify “version 3 or later” when using the GNU GPL. (B2)
[17:58:18] <chromas> to heavy anyhow. When I tested gitlab it took minutes to startup. gitea was pretty noice but idled at 2% cpu for some reason
[17:58:32] <kolie2> git.ennwise.com
[18:42:36] <kolie2> Interesting he says LLMs have a problem with perl.
[18:42:39] <kolie2> Not in my experience.
[18:42:55] <kolie2> They actually produce pretty decent perl imo.
[19:10:09] <janrinok> my dog could walk through wet paint and produce good perl code!
[19:25:42] <kolie2> yea i mean idk personally how the previous maintainers perl skills where.
[19:26:50] <kolie2> Any outstanding bugs on dev? Chuky reported he couldn't journal post but others have.
[20:30:41] <fab23> A friend of mine usually says that perl code looks like that an armadillo has been rolled over a keyboard. (-:
[20:56:09] <chromas> It's French where all the psilent letteurs aren't so silent
[20:58:45] <kolie2> ive heard the armadillo kb one.
[20:58:54] <kolie2> apt because of the regex
