[17:59:34] <Fnord666_> A little late to the party re card merchants, but until a few years ago, the merchant agreement that merchants signed with Visa and MasterCard mandated that they could not charge cardholders for using their card.
[18:00:21] <Fnord666_> If you charged a card fee, you could get your ability to accept that card revoked.
[18:00:58] <Fnord666_> Some merchants got around that by offering a discount if you paid cash.
[18:01:53] <Fnord666_> IIRC you couldn't require a minimum purchase either.
[18:03:27] <Fnord666_> Visa and Mastercard did away with those requirements some years back however so now you see both being displayed/charged by merchants.
