[00:02:33] <chromas> ah, if you want to use the terminal then maybe you could try mldonkey :D
[00:05:38] <chromas> Speaking of systemdeadbeef, it looks like even linux from scratch is going all in
[00:11:41] <chromas> Since Google, Apple and Scamsung all have their own payment systems for tap-to-pay, I don't see why banks don't integrate that into their own mobile applications, bypassing any third parties

[01:21:50] <c0lo> you need a clearing house between banks anyway.
[01:21:50] <c0lo> Plus something to track credit rating of a person to avoid bank surfing letting unpaid debt in its wake.
[01:24:36] <chromas> "need"
[01:25:05] <chromas> it's the current year and they all have computers and the internet. They can just talk to each other now.

[14:14:34] <Ingar> down deep deep deep down
[14:15:51] <Ingar> chromas: google apple and Scamsung might nut be up to ssnuff with the necessary legal requirements
[14:16:02] <Ingar> *might not
[14:19:33] <chromas> they're up enough to be payment options. It took the banks ages, but they finally came up with Zelle for sending money directly to people, as an alternative to Venmo, Cashapp and Paypal. They just need to get off their butts and make their own tap-to-pay system. They probably only don't because Visa and Mastercard have their hands up someone's butt
[14:21:08] <chromas> Maybe if the Eurobanks can get away from them then they'll shrivel up and lose their grip on us too
[15:42:38] <Ingar> I pay cash
[15:42:54] <Ingar> every local merchant loves me
[15:43:17] <Ingar> (transactions costs for electronic payments are ridiculous)
[20:18:22] <chromas> Yeah a lot of small business will give a cash discount. On the other hand, dealing with cash is extra labor you don't have to pay when dealing with cards. Not much, but some companies get all worked up about seconds here and there, even when there's far bigger waste they don't care about.

[22:02:08] <ted-ious> I think cash discounts violate most of the credit card merchants contracts.
[22:03:00] <ted-ious> Stores used to do that to save themselves the processing fees but I think that all went away decades ago.
[23:19:58] <chromas> good point. Hidden fees make a Happy Merchant
[23:21:10] <chromas> I've read they used to require stores to hide the swipe fee, but some people have told me more recently that they don't or can't. I don't recall ever noticing a fee listed but I don't look at receipts.
