[08:14:19] <chromas> My server rebooted itself for no apparent reason yesterday, so I thought I'd do updates. With much wisdom, I didn't check for notes or anything. Now my mail server's borked because the buttpipes over at Dovecot decided they needed to change how all the config files work
[08:33:51] <janrinok> Why on earth did they not handle the previous configuration? Either allow you to keep what you had, or convert it to the new config requirements. They are idiots
[08:34:58] <chromas> I blame %current_political_thing%
[08:35:34] <chromas> I noticed on their website they have CE and a Pro version. I wonder if that's new or they've had a commercial version for awhile
[08:35:54] <c0lo> Because Bernie started to agree with Trump.
[08:36:10] <chromas> Yep it was that
[08:36:15] <chromas> and Jon Stewart too
[09:51:42] <janrinok> really - I missed that

[10:31:40] <AlwaysNever> chromas: is your server on a rolling release distribution? that would be risky business
[10:31:53] <chromas> of course :)
[10:31:53] <Ingar> janrinok: you should say 'resurrected' to make it sound more dramatic
[10:32:55] <chromas> I still can't login to see my mails but I can ssh into the box and read the mail files directly like a unix noob
[10:33:04] <janrinok> Ingar, well it does seem to work in mysterious ways sometimes....
[10:34:41] <fab23> computers are logical, that can not be the case
[10:35:23] * Ingar slaps fab23 with some Gödels
[10:36:17] <AlwaysNever> any logic we can't grok, is misterious
[10:36:28] -!- systemd [systemd!~systemd@pid1] has joined #Soylent
[10:36:46] <Ingar> AlwaysNever: we call it 'female'
[10:36:54] <fab23> Ingar: what is 'Gödels'?
[10:37:00] <AlwaysNever> hahaha
[10:37:17] <Ingar> https://en.wikipedia.org
[10:38:26] <fab23> ah
[10:39:05] <Ingar> it's uni-level maths and I have forgotten most of it, but "logic" isn't that "simple"
[10:39:33] <AlwaysNever> I hate rolling releases on servers, I find that goes contrary human's health
[10:40:21] <fab23> Ingar: I only worked at an University, but never was a student there :)
[10:41:59] <chromas> I should install suse; it comes with snapshots enabled by default, so I could just roll back my misteaks
[10:42:04] <fab23> AlwaysNever: I am happy with my Beautifully Source Distribution, stable base OS but rolling relases for the applications, and most often you have to switch major versions of e.g. MariaDB and such on your own, so you have time to prepare and read release notes
[10:42:44] <AlwaysNever> I never upgrade, I just add new projects
[10:42:58] <fab23> /o\
[10:43:41] <fab23> or for the UTF-8 enabled as 🙀
[10:43:54] <chromas> mew
[10:44:18] <AlwaysNever> looks like a delta with tilde to me
[10:44:19] <AlwaysNever> LOL
[10:50:18] <Ingar> my debian is so old I get a warning it isnt quantum safe
[10:50:28] <Ingar> but it's stable allright!
[10:51:10] <chromas> so old you get 404s when you check for updates
[10:51:41] <Ingar> chromas: I just need to spin up a new vps transfer data and delete the old one

[11:01:37] <AlwaysNever> I have until to 2038 to migrate to something newer
[11:02:00] <AlwaysNever> so I'll wait
[11:16:13] <Ingar> in the meanwhile, it's nice and sunny outside, should go snap some pics

[15:15:54] <janrinok> Very nice pictures - and quite a bit different from your usual. Go on, try to get an early morning shot on a clear day...
[15:20:22] <Ingar> janrinok: I've always enjoyed taking pictures, got a mirrorless in march and trying to get better :-)
[15:25:41] <janrinok> Yes, I can recall one of a church steeple and weather vane that you took, I think from your home. I think that was an experiment to test a new lens or something.
[15:29:48] <Ingar> ah probabely the church tower, I use it for alignment things
[15:30:31] <Ingar> every now and then I try to do some more "artsy' photography
[15:31:09] <Ingar> it's a good excuse to go visit some silly places
[15:40:41] <AlwaysNever> a camera in hand is a great excuse to get out and explore places

[18:24:29] <c0lo> I'm waiting for the end of current subsidies for home batteries to upgrade my PV-es in both generated power and add a battery.
[18:24:37] <c0lo> When the last round of subsidies ended ('bout 10y ago), the price of PV-es dropped to almost half overnight - there were excess PV in stock. Will happen the same with the batteries.
