[00:03:26] <c0lo> Ryan Walters will pursue other opportunities for the time being https://oklahomavoice.com
[00:03:27] <systemd> ^ 03Walters to resign as Oklahoma state superintendent, announces position in national teacher group
[00:09:36] <halibut> Whoops. I was thinking about too many things at once, and called Ryan Walters the governor. Ryan Walters is the state superintendent.
[00:16:17] <c0lo> ex-state superintendent
[00:22:13] <halibut> Wow. That article is just full of links to other articles that are borderline incredible.
[00:23:59] <halibut> Also, just to try to recover any credibility of my reading comprehension, I would like to point out that RW is still the superintendent. He will not be the ex-superintendent until the resignation takes effect, apparently in a few more days.

[01:15:40] <halibut> This most recent rapture was not nearly as publicized as the one in 2021; I did not even know about it until about a week ago, and I did not even know when it was until I watched that video posted above.
[01:16:03] <halibut> This was from back in 2021, but it seems pretty much spot-on, still: https://www.youtube.com

[01:16:51] <halibut> Not my day for typing. I meant 2011, not 2021.
[01:17:35] <halibut> I was just commenting on how this YouTube video concerning the 2011 rapture, seems oddly still appropriate: https://www.youtube.com
[01:17:38] <systemd> ^ 03After The Rapture
[01:46:03] <c0lo> halibut++
[01:46:03] <bender> halibut: 25
[01:46:23] <c0lo> Gorgeously disappointing
[01:48:44] <halibut> I particularly like the bit where the announcer just swears and shuts the radio off.
[01:50:10] <c0lo> The things get shitty with every passing rapture https://www.youtube.com
[01:50:12] <systemd> ^ 03Going back to work after the Rapture didn’t happen
[02:05:05] <halibut> I do not think I have ever had a coworker or friend who has prepared for any of the raptures.
[02:05:26] <halibut> I have no idea what it is like, both leading up to, and the day after.
[02:06:01] <halibut> I imagine, like many things, it ranges from some people being completely silent about it to people being loud but nice to people being loud but not nice.
[02:07:47] <halibut> The character in the video sounds like the way they behaved on their last day might have disqualified them from the Rapture. Seesm like, if you thought it was your last day on Earth (in a way that you wanted), one would act in such a way that would not put that in jeopardy.
[02:08:08] <halibut> ... or do a lot of people think it is inevitable that they will be Raptured, regardless of what they do?
[02:08:39] <halibut> Isn't the whole point of Judgement Day, or the Final Judgement, that everybody gets judged, and it is not until then that you know your fate?
[02:09:22] <halibut> ... or do some people think that they have already passed, and nothing they do can alter that?
[02:10:13] <halibut> (I suppose these are largely rhetorical; I do not expect anybody to have the answer for all people, but I would be curious to listen to guesses and viewpoints. Please point out if you are discussing a guess vs. something you yourself felt vs. something somebody else described to you.)
[02:16:45] <c0lo> > ... or do a lot of people think it is inevitable that they will be Raptured, regardless of what they do?
[02:16:45] <c0lo> IDK, I imagine the exceptionalism plays a heavy role, them being of "the right kind of righteousness" excepts them of their doing and they'd be judged only for their faith.

[03:26:25] <systemd> ✓ Sub-ccess! "03Complex Knots Can Actually be Easier to Untie Than Simple Ones" (26p) -> https://soylentnews.org
[05:39:19] <halibut> Knot theory is probably significantly more complex, but there are tricks you can pull with a string where you tie a knot around something, and then tie a different knot on top of that knot, and the whole thing just falls apart.
[05:39:58] <halibut> It sounds like the sort of counterexample they claimed to have searched so hard to find. My guess, though, is that the string tricks do not involve true knots of the type being studied.
[05:41:10] <halibut> Thinking about it a little more, the knots involved in some of those string tricks are similar to the knots used to tie shoes; and those can be undone by just pulling on one free end, which I think invalidates them as not true knots.
[05:41:24] <halibut> (at least, in the terms used in that paper)
[06:03:52] <chromas> they are true nots
[06:22:21] <halibut> Knot theory is nice and tied-y.
