[01:10:28] <c0lo> 200 but front page loads empty. 3 refreshes until the page came back.

[01:13:47] <c0lo> Does some server/cache get reset o daily basis and I just landed in the transient period?
[01:32:30] <chromas> I felt it too. sn mail server burp
[01:33:32] <chromas> also I didn't see any erections but you're right, even if I didn't feel it, it was still there
[01:54:28] <c0lo> chromas, "even if I didn't feel it" - do you regret not feeling it?

[07:09:22] <janrinok> <c0lo> Does some server/cache get reset o daily basis and I just landed in the transient period? c0lo, yes it does. Rehash wasn't designed for a lot of the traffic that we see today, and lots of the caching etc was ripped out when the site was first built in 2014.
[07:11:44] <janrinok> Rehash needs a complete rewrite (but everyone knows that). kolie is doing some of that work now looking at the supporting functionality (displays, database, etc) Once that is rewritten and stable then it will be possible to rewrite what remains of Rehash in something more sane and supportable. This is a long-term project.
[07:15:37] <janrinok> Rehash itself is simply too fragile and there are software problems that are caused by timing issues which were not evident in 2014 because CPUs worked at a much slower clock rate. A daily reboot minimises the problems that we see but does not fix them of course.
[07:16:37] <chromas> bu-bu-but muh battle-tested software!
[07:18:03] <janrinok> The aim is to keep the exact same look and feel. Which is why you might have seen kolie producing web pages using a completely different template system. One step at a time.
[07:19:06] <c0lo> Those are no longer battles, that's AI drones terrorism, chromas
[07:21:22] <janrinok> kolie is now looking at the database software. There is a timing issue with the db when it is being restarted (and probably at other times too!)

[09:49:46] <fab23> in here it seems that the internet does only consist of YouTube and nothing else :)
[10:16:11] <c0lo> was that a nod of approval or the expression of deep disappointment, fab23?
[10:22:44] <chromas> He wants some Apple TV links
[10:27:05] <c0lo> I was thinking more on the line of pr0nhub, but now I realize that's more likely on the line of Ingar's love story w/ freebsd
[10:57:31] <fab23> It was just my impression that YT is the only thing that matter, I try to avoid clicking on such links.
[10:57:41] <janrinok> ditto
[11:23:10] <c0lo> So... what then? Cosmological models, AI ethics, quantum deontology, context-sensitive grammar and type theory, early dadaism and théâtre de l'absurde, Trump, polymer clay, Ukraine, woodwoking. geopolitics, Trump, late capitalism and spanking new monetary theory, robotics, Trump, hyperbolic geometry, Ukraine, breadmaking, Trump... what?
[11:33:10] <fab23> feel free to post what others may interest as long as it meets the SN topic :)

[12:16:04] <janrinok> No, I disagree, there is no restriction as to what we discuss. But I don't find Youtube videos very interesting. Just a personal thing. I have no problem with general chatting though.
[12:18:52] <janrinok> Anything on c0lo's suggested list is fine by me. But I don't want to watch a video of it.

[14:58:19] <fab23> ok, the 🙃 would actually be a (-:
[15:14:30] <janrinok> np
[16:10:59] <kolie> c0lo, you noticed the daily reset
[16:11:22] <kolie> 0100 UTC ish
[16:11:56] <kolie> The servers one by one get restarted, serially.
[16:14:00] <kolie> bender, then mediawiki ( www, backup then db ) devbot, healthchecks, tor, stats, loggie, kiwi, routing, irpg, looging glass, monitoring 1, monitoring 2, dns, then 9 different email ssytems, then rehash, varnish, rehash, sphinx, backup, db, db-viewer, then rehash-dev
[16:15:34] <kolie> No earlier than 0100, and im not sure how long the reset extends in to doing them one at a time, but it can be a little bit im guessing.
[21:30:21] <chromas> So it's like our own personal reset era

[21:42:57] <kolie> why would someone do this lol
[21:46:39] <chromas> Windows ui keeps going downhill
[21:47:07] <kolie> Apparently he's using it on windows 95
[21:47:11] <chromas> He should be running Vista. That was the peak
[21:47:14] <kolie> And why be on windows then?
[21:47:54] <chromas> Because nothing in Linux can properly replicate Aero
[21:49:00] <kolie> plasma
[21:49:40] <chromas> Not good enough
[21:49:54] <kolie> so win 95 with retrozilla nah theres a story there
[21:50:35] <chromas> Need a round start button that sticks out beyond the panel, and also button glow that does the same
[21:50:59] <chromas> Maybe snappy vm boots
[21:56:29] <kolie> I guess if you need dos compatibility
[21:56:35] <kolie> But even then I got to axe why.
