[03:08:26] <kolie> halibut, I loaded #fite from the wrong folder
[03:08:31] <kolie> it checks the current dir for the DB
[03:08:38] <kolie> so it started a clean one
[03:08:46] <kolie> I just killed it and started it from the correct dir
[03:45:04] <halibut> That's what I figured, although I am a little skeptical about your current level.
[03:46:22] <halibut> I seem to recall fiting myself a while back. It took many hours.
[03:48:00] <kolie> I botted and wrote some hexchat scripts.
[03:48:57] <kolie> used two to get them low hp and then one hit them via a hexchat alert.
[03:49:16] <kolie> know a better tactic?
[03:51:49] <kolie> In other news, I've got the about page templates processing basically a very direct copy of the about page templates from perl in my test environent.

[14:47:47] <kolie> Doesn't look like much but this is actually the original about template code being rendered live by a real back end that isn't rehash.
[14:48:00] <kolie> And all sub templates, and all filters, and all data handling in place.
[14:50:28] <kolie> All the modules listed have implementations: https://justpaste.it

[14:51:32] <kolie> Think I'll get styling working and static files, and then switch over to all the DB tables and functions.
[15:02:50] <janrinok> How does it look speed-wise?
[15:03:25] <janrinok> probably too soon to tell...
[15:43:58] <kolie> just an experiment still - but everything is quicker - not much in the way of back end though.
[15:44:34] <kolie> I really focused on the front-end and duplicating it but with an eye on - being able obv do something differnet under the hood.
[17:00:10] -!- progo [progo!~progo@eegc-73-589-96-43.nwrknj.fios.verizon.net] has joined #soylent
[17:02:55] <janrinok> understood
[17:07:18] <kolie> I think #1) I'm not a designer anyways so keeping the site look makes it easy to use the already templates and #2) Who's going to figure out and agree and get consensus behind a new look
[17:07:40] <kolie> I do ok design work but yea not my bread and butter.
[17:08:48] <kolie> Most direct route if we wanted that is to vote on a new default theme or something i guess idk.
[17:09:01] <kolie> I'm happy if the back end can be cleaned up.
[17:09:54] <janrinok> I think it makes good sense to keep the existing look and feel. Nobody ever queries the code that we are running as long as it _is_ running.
[17:10:14] <janrinok> But I'm not sure that trying to get a consensus on a de
[17:11:01] <janrinok> default new theme is more problematic. Different users use different themes and trying to funnel them into a single theme will not be easy.
[17:11:40] <kolie> yea and i dont care to change it personally.
[17:11:47] <kolie> I think its fine.
[17:12:05] <kolie> obv having more control over the tooling lets us do these things more easily.
[17:12:27] <janrinok> If you can make the backend more structured and less interdependent on other modules and elements it should also remove some hidden bugs and make tracing new ones easier.
[17:12:31] <kolie> ahead of ourselves anyways, don't know the timeline on this or where it goes - promising rn.
[17:13:07] <kolie> Yea, I'd like to get a faithful port - then look into more cleanly seperating the front and back - and then probably restructuring the back.
[17:13:31] <janrinok> Yes, do it as slowly as you wish. We've not announced it and it is, as you point out, more of an experiment and looking at what is possible.

[18:05:10] <janrinok> Yes, it does!
[19:00:38] <janrinok> There is one minor problem with the template/layout. In the left-hand 'Sections' window, the 'SoylentNews' link wrap around. I cannot repeat that on any of my computers. Perhaps this is a minor difference in template or CSS? Trivial though...
[23:11:19] <kolie> Oh it's not supposed to be working haha
[23:11:25] <kolie> I'm glad I got anything out.
[23:11:42] <kolie> I have a very high zoom in on the browser settings.
[23:11:55] <kolie> And all css isn't being processed right in that picture.
[23:12:13] <kolie> idk if its even using the soylent news theme - that looks like the default slash code theme.
[23:40:27] <progo> ooh ooh if you're working on the site theme PLEASE please please make the font 100% size on mobile, and make story text fill the screen from left to right on mobile
[23:41:43] <progo> Opera is the only mobile browser I can find that bashes a bad theme into readability if you pinch to zoom in and out. and I hate a lot of features of Opera. (especially their poor countries' payday loans)
[23:48:13] <progo> actually the correct base font size for main text on all displays in any HTML context is 100%. all other sizes are incorrect. IMHO.
[23:48:25] <progo> inherit user preference
[23:50:34] <progo> nice! it's 100% now already on the live theme. nm my font blather but I wish all sites could figure out a nice vertical flow of blocks for small screens
