[22:34:08] <systemd> ^ 03Why I NEVER Restore From Backup
[23:29:55] <chromas> https://github.com
[23:29:56] <systemd> ^ 03GitHub - StractOrg/stract: web search done right
[23:44:59] <ted-ious> So it's not distributed it's just a replacement for google that shares its source code?
[23:45:16] <chromas> yeah with its own crawler and everything
[23:46:00] <ted-ious> What are the chances it will grow and become a worthwhile replacement?
[23:46:43] <chromas> dunno. there's a hosted version toohttps://stract.com
[23:46:44] <systemd> ^ 03Stract
[23:47:09] <chromas> no image search
[23:48:50] <ted-ious> What about available cache files or archives?
[23:49:00] <ted-ious> Or proxying?
[23:49:19] <ted-ious> All I see is just page results.
[23:49:42] <chromas> it's a search page. archiving is a separate project
[23:50:08] <chromas> if a person ran an instance, they could probably hack together a cache viewer
[23:50:11] <ted-ious> Right but google cache is almost like an archive.
[23:50:23] <chromas> for sites the cache is available on
[23:51:17] <ted-ious> Navigation to other pages of results is not very good.
[23:52:47] <chromas> Does it need a "Straaaaaaaaaaaaact" link at the bottom?
[23:53:11] <ted-ious> That's up to the graphics designers. :)
[23:53:28] <ted-ious> But at least links for jumping to a different page.
[23:55:03] <chromas> It's got a link to next result, and you have a back button in your browser. What's the use case for specifically going, say, from page 5 to page 7?
[23:57:08] <ted-ious> Right and also the fact that their button doesn't even work for non-js browsers.
[23:57:28] <ted-ious> Maybe the project is young and it will improve.
[23:58:07] <ted-ious> I probably won't use it much since it doesn't seem to do anything special.
[23:59:00] <chromas> true, if you want google without the ai nonsense you can just use startpage
