[18:34:14] <ted-ious> Interesting data coming out of florida.

[18:36:21] <ted-ious> One study found that Pfizer recipients were at a higher risk of COVID-19 hospitalization and death. Another study determined that Pfizer recipients were at higher risk of heart attack and stroke.

[18:37:23] <ted-ious> Those are dod studies of veteran populations.
[18:38:16] <janrinok> kolie - dev doesn't seem to be up. We have a volunteer for training so it would be useful to get it operational if that is possible.
[18:40:54] <chromas> ted-ious: yeah but we need to triple-vaxx and quadruple-boost so grandma doesn't die when we put covid patients into nursing homes for some reason
[18:42:05] <ted-ious> I think the next time that happens the governor responsible will be led to the guillotine instead of allowed to retire for sex scandal reasons.
[18:42:36] <ted-ious> That excuse worked once but I doubt it will work again.
[22:24:51] <halibut> ted-ious: I do not do X, but I looked at the medarxiv PDF. It sounds like they put a lot of work into trying to account for a lot of variables. Very interesting.
[22:25:49] <halibut> However, please try to show a little more care in how you summarize it. It was comparing death rates between matched groups that each took a different vaccine. The Pfizer group showed an increase in death rate, both overal, and by various causes (COVID-19 and cardiovascular).
[22:26:36] <halibut> Interesting result, but to just state something like Pfizer has a higher death rate sounds like the Pfizer vaccination might increase death rate compared to not vaccinating. The study stated nothing of the kind.
[22:26:45] <halibut> In fact, it has not stats whatsoever about unvaccinated people
[22:27:33] <ted-ious> Why are you putting those words into my mouth?
[22:27:55] <ted-ious> Where did I say anything about unvaccinated people?
[22:27:57] <halibut> This is really back-of-the-envelope, but it is worth pointing out, as a comparison, that the death rate quoted in the article (8 per thousand or so) for Pfizer is actually lower than the death rate in Florida overall that year (11 per thousand, https://deadorkicking.com )

[22:28:35] <halibut> ted-ious: ``Another study determined that Pfizer recipients were at higher risk of heart attack and stroke.''
[22:29:00] <ted-ious> That's what the study said.
[22:29:05] <halibut> Quote from you, about 6 hours back.
[22:29:38] <halibut> Followed almost immediately by two links. One study I could not see (a link to X), but the other did NOT say that.
[22:31:43] <halibut> I am merely stating you should clarify that the study was between Pfizer recipients and mRNA-1273 recipients. Leaving out the latter makes it sound like a comparison with no-vaccine.
[22:31:54] <ted-ious> I chose not to waste our time by sharing the original link because I didn't want to have to deal with the inevitable logical fallacies about how this or that source automatically discredited the studies.
[22:32:50] <ted-ious> But you can read the context if you want. https://www.zerohedge.com
[22:32:51] <systemd> ^ 03Recipients Of Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Had Higher Mortality Than Those Of Moderna: Study
[22:35:24] <halibut> That does not add anything that was not in the 53 page PDF you linked to (which I did read).
[22:39:55] <halibut> I should probably clarify something about the stats I quoted: The death rate from the paper (8 per thousand) was smaller than the overall death rate I found (11 per thousand).
[22:40:50] <halibut> The difference is smaller than the range in death rates quoted in the paper across different age groups. As I cannot be certain the age ranges are weighted in those two numbers, those numbers do NOT imply that the death rate is lower among the Pfizer group than the population as a whole.
[22:40:58] <halibut> (It also does not rule it out, however.)
[23:02:34] <ted-ious> I wonder if this study was paid for by pfizer.
[23:03:25] <ted-ious> 1Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA
[23:08:29] <halibut> Not really a good return on their investment. Maybe Moderna, but it seems like they would have wanted this to get out much sooner, rather than 4 years after the fact. It is self-reported, but the authors claim this was funded by the Florida Department of Health. Strange ... I thought Florida was pretty against looking into this sort of thing. Perhaps I was wrong ...
[23:09:30] <ted-ious> Florida has just as much corruption as any other state.
[23:09:51] <ted-ious> Remember their motorcycle fatalities classified as covid deaths?
[23:12:37] <kolie_> let me look at dev.
[23:16:05] <halibut> Definitely a different quality level between that and the rigor that at least appeared to have been demonstrated in that paper.
[23:33:03] <kolie_> dev is up
