[14:35:12] <janrinok-znc> It is defaulting to janrinok-znc, when yesterday it was janrinok.
[14:35:55] <janrinok-znc> chromas - how are you currently connecting to SN Main Channel?
[14:40:24] <fab23> for me this here is the SN main channel on irc.soylentnews.org

[17:21:30] <kolie> Heyo
[17:24:48] <chromas> g'day
[17:34:04] <chromas> looks like the devbot is connecting from linode. Do we have another box running?
[17:55:23] <kolie> Yeah so Dev bot is on staging
[17:55:33] <kolie> Which was the initial testing system I did like two years ago for docker
[17:55:43] <kolie> That's where IRC and services were running for the past however long
[17:55:56] <kolie> All those staging URLs were on that fourth lineode box
[17:56:18] <kolie> It's connecting over Lino's IPv6 which is why it's flapping
[17:56:54] <kolie> I'm going to move devbot and see what it's going to take to migrate DNS
[17:58:41] <janrinok> o/ guys!
[18:08:56] <kolie> Hey jan
[18:14:52] <janrinok> did you get to fly yesterday?
[18:25:45] <kolie> Yeah it was just as windy. We did quick calculation And it was basically minimums. ATIS was 20m old so called the tower for a wind check and actual was a bit less cross and more down the pipe so yea we went out
[18:26:28] <kolie> It was funny because when we were going to the run-up, in between the announce the new update got words from the previous one
[18:26:39] <kolie> So we're running up and we're like busting out the trig trying to figure out how bad it really is
[18:27:01] <kolie> And we sat there and run up and watched some similar models come down and they seem to be doing fine so Tower confirms it was a little bit better
[18:27:19] <kolie> Got about an hour in actual air time.
[18:27:33] <kolie> Been a while since I've been in anything but 0 to 5 variable
[18:27:56] <kolie> I was eager to get into some real conditions and get more current on the fundamentals of wind
[18:27:59] <janrinok> sharpens the wits and reflexes
[18:28:17] <kolie> Well the thing is with John Wayne airport, 99% of the year they're taking off 2-0
[18:28:36] <kolie> The only time they switch and they start taking off towards the ocean is during Santa Ana which are brief period of time and even then they're not always that direction specifically
[18:28:47] <kolie> It was like coming into a brand new airport and people get complacent because they take off and land here everyday
[18:29:06] <kolie> And the general aviation strip has an offset coming in and departing so it's not a standard pattern
[18:29:46] <janrinok> it is a bit like driving - anyone can drive when it isn't to busy and the weather is good. It all changes suddenly when conditions are different.
[18:30:22] <kolie> I got a dude that knows the procedures there very well in my right seat he's a he's a good dude. Anyways we were out in the practice area and Tower directs me basically to midfield and then come into a left downwind.
[18:30:56] <kolie> But I don't know where the runway is. I see the big one so I kind of know where I'm at so I'm in the gym with direction I know where to make the downwind and I come in and I realize I'm not in a downwind and I don't need to turn I'm a beam the numbers on my base
[18:31:20] <kolie> The point where I realize that is where I'm turning final because right when I started to turn, I found the numbers and they were right under me
[18:31:32] <kolie> I was about to go around to my instructor's like trust me you got this I know that you're high and you're over the
[18:31:40] <kolie> Numbers but we got this and it was fine
[18:31:51] <janrinok> yeah, a long runway always helps
[18:32:03] <kolie> But I was so task saturated, like I said new airport and coming in with the wind and just a brutal day yeah
[18:32:29] <janrinok> lessons learned like that tend to be the ones that stick
[18:32:32] <kolie> The other interesting thing there is the GA runway is 400 ft from the big one.
[18:33:00] <kolie> I knew the entire time I was like I'm still trying to find the runway and we're basically where we normally depart from so I know I'm not going anymore towards the big guys
[18:33:39] <kolie> But yea, exactly why I needed it, good learning, good exercise.
[18:34:29] <janrinok> If it was easy just think of all of the idiots you would have to put up with whenever you got airborne!
[18:35:50] <kolie> Yeah people think it's like not as easy as driving right but - It's hard to explain to someone that's never done it just how much you're doing 100% of the time
[18:37:08] <janrinok> I found out what the problem was at my end. I have a system that, when certain files get changed they are automatically send to the other computers on my internal network (18 of them). Some of my computers are dual boot with the current release and the previous release.
[18:38:42] <janrinok> On Monday evening we had electrical problems during the night and the engineers kept connecting and disconnecting the power for the local area. One of them killed my main server and gateway, or least corrupted the main partition. So it reverted to the previous release.
[18:39:30] <janrinok> But that release didn't have the same hosts file as the current one so kept jumping to bery even when every other computer was happily reading DNS and getting it right.
[18:41:05] <kolie> Oh that sucks
[18:41:13] <kolie> Glad it got sorted out Are you on the proper IRC right now?
[18:41:20] <kolie> Cuz if you are I'm going to turn off the old ZNC
[18:41:25] <janrinok> You tell me - I think so!!
[18:41:36] <janrinok> Turn it off - I am OK now
[18:41:38] <kolie> I can't do a who is right now because my client eats the response and shows me a pretty display without the information I need which is really stupid
[18:41:53] <kolie> If you can do it who is on yourself and then PM me the results just copy and paste them into like a DM
[18:41:56] <kolie> I can confirm
[18:42:15] <janrinok> you just want my IP?
[18:42:28] <kolie> Just do a who is on your nickname and then all the ones that come up just PM them to me
[18:44:27] <kolie> Yeah that's the new DNC
[18:44:43] <kolie> That wasn't a Freudian slip that was Google voice hearing what it wants
[18:46:07] <janrinok> I've noticed that with some of your previous comments. My favourite was a day or two back "D and S" - it took me a second or two to realise what you must have said.
[18:47:01] <kolie> Yeah so the one you're talking from is good The other one -znc, that's the bery ZNC just idling here.
[18:47:53] <janrinok> you can kill it because neither of them actually seem to be saving chat when I am not online.
[18:48:48] <janrinok> I had a look at bery and I cannot see anything else worth saving
[18:52:14] <kolie> Yeah like I said I downloaded the JSB data
[18:52:28] <kolie> So I'm pretty comfortable, anything we might lose would be minor and need to be converted and updated anyways
[18:52:37] <kolie> We have all the historical logs we have historical JSB data so we can load it into something else when the time comes
[18:52:43] <janrinok> agreed. Pull the plug
[18:53:06] <kolie> Okay so I just need to leave helium on and I'm going to do the DNS stuff I might do this weekend if I can find some time I'm not sure
[18:53:09] <janrinok> we want to make sure that we are good for the weekend so that you can take a break!
[18:53:11] <kolie> Next week's a busy one for me
[18:53:48] <janrinok> Do we save any money if we power servers down for the moment?
[18:54:08] <kolie> I'm not sure if there's a difference when pricing if they're on va not
[18:54:40] <kolie> So I think we still pay for it
[18:54:44] <janrinok> we got a bill today which appears to say we owe $0.00....
[18:54:47] <kolie> We have to copy off the disc and then delete the instance
[18:54:56] <kolie> Yeah so the PBC just got billed 50 bucks
[18:55:07] <kolie> So I think they did partial for the time where half the month it was on them and now half of it's on you
[18:55:16] <kolie> Your current as of the transition date and now I'm going forward probably responsible for partial
[18:55:36] <janrinok> I'll leave that to Dale and Matt to sort out
[18:55:36] <kolie> Not saying it's exactly half but you know what I mean
[18:58:31] <kolie> Did you see the new soylentil who was trying to register?
[18:58:47] <janrinok> on here or as a new member?
[18:58:55] <kolie> On the website there's an email chain
[18:59:16] <kolie> Looks like audio guys email account isn't on The system so they were getting bounced
[19:00:42] <janrinok> I temporarily blocked 1 today and disabled 2 commercial spam. Audioguy's emails have been bouncing for several months, but he has left his access open to us incase we want to download any of his backups of earlier data.
[19:02:58] <kolie> Ok.
[19:03:14] <kolie> We probably want to replace his alias on admin@ to something that works or remove it.
[19:05:22] <janrinok> I'll do that
[19:06:31] <janrinok> kolie see PM
[20:04:10] <janrinok> OK, it is time for me to wind it up for today. See you tomorrow - well some of you. It is a different crowd at weekends...
[20:04:41] <kolie> janrinok, be well, good to be active here and have the OGs
[20:05:43] <janrinok> lol - might see you over the weekend, but if not enjoy your family time!
[20:05:55] <kolie> kids birthday, good weekend.
