[17:00:10] <janrinok> kolie o/
[17:00:34] <janrinok> a bit late - I was having my evening meal.
[17:01:44] <kolie> All good!
[17:02:40] <kolie> Haven't seen anything from others re: dns. But once that's in place I can get the ssl/frontend setup and should be able to bring up a staging rehash with a db backup.
[17:03:49] <janrinok> I will send another email to Fliptop but I don't expect an immediate response unfortunately.
[17:04:00] <kolie> I sent one, I'm sure hes aware.
[17:04:06] <kolie> Anotehr can't hurt email is free :)
[17:06:38] <janrinok> email and IRC are the only means of contact I have with him.
[17:07:18] <janrinok> He did say that he would be cutting down some trees (cherry I think...) but I don't know where that was.
[17:07:50] <janrinok> Getting everybody in one place at the same time is bit like herding cats....
[17:08:24] <Ingar> coincidently, I've cut down trees for a week in september while herding three cats
[17:08:35] <Ingar> it is... challenging at times
[17:09:19] <janrinok> 'challenging' - now that's a word that sounds quite innocuous unless you have ever tried herding cats for real.!
[17:09:49] <Ingar> well, I am in customer support as well
[17:10:00] <janrinok> :)
[17:10:23] <Ingar> the solution to cat herding is to learn them how to climb a ladder
[17:10:35] <Ingar> keeps them busy for hours
[17:10:57] <janrinok> get them all up the same tree eh? I hadn't tried that approach
[17:11:15] <Ingar> the roof of the garden shed actually
[17:11:44] <Ingar> also, hi janrinok , hi kolie !
[17:11:52] <janrinok> oh, hi !
[17:11:54] <kolie> If he doesn’t respond soon, we might have to resort to interpretive dance to get his attention!
[17:12:34] <janrinok> I'll set up my camera just in case we resort to that!
[17:13:05] <Ingar> oh crap, that reminds me I actually need to setup a camera
[17:15:03] <kolie> lol.
[17:16:34] <Ingar> I might have a two hour window to get some moonshots
[17:16:50] <kolie> astrophotography? Anything cool out?
[17:17:13] <Ingar> soon, comets
[17:17:14] <kolie> I got venus yesterday
[17:17:23] <janrinok> completely cloudy here, not much to see.
[17:17:31] <kolie> Should be draconids soon ?
[17:18:34] <Ingar> kolie: I mostly do deep sky stuff
[17:18:46] <Ingar> the moon is just an old love ^^
[17:19:22] <kolie> So many people get disappointed with telescopes, everything to the eye is a point of light outside of a few things, but man do those long exposures of deep space look pretty.
[17:19:22] <Ingar> kolie: http://ingar.intranifty.net
[17:20:42] <kolie> That's a great shot.
[17:20:53] <kolie> Wish it was darker here.
[17:20:56] <Ingar> thanks! (it is ;-) )
[17:21:29] <Ingar> kolie: I'm in Bortle 5 or 6 depending in what direction I look
[17:21:37] <Ingar> I somewhat gave up on visual here
[17:22:13] <Ingar> (Bortle scale is a 'light pollution scale, for those not familiar. I'm in "suburb" levels)
[17:22:23] <kolie> Yea I'm mostly in firm 7 space.
[17:22:35] <janrinok> I am using Debian but neither Firefox or Brave like your URLs for some reason. I had a similar problem last night too.
[17:22:53] <Ingar> janrinok: oh I remember, he had that before
[17:23:03] <Ingar> it's my fault is a I urgently not to go HTTPS
[17:23:03] <kolie> My house out in the "middle of nowhere" is almost 6.
[17:23:55] <janrinok> kolie, you said you were upgrading your pilot's licence. Can I ask what to?
[17:24:30] <kolie> CFII and CMEL
[17:24:47] <kolie> teaching instruments, and multi engine.
[17:25:16] <Ingar> kolie: you're a pilot? or just flying for fun?
[17:25:53] <kolie> Day job is mostly in tech, but I spend a lot of time flying, and some of it is side business/commercial.
[17:26:09] <Ingar> heh nice
[17:26:35] <janrinok> they look like very useful upgrades to have!
[17:28:13] <kolie> Good to have goals and work on things.
[17:28:31] <kolie> If I can get my kids licensed properly, all the better.
[17:28:49] <janrinok> My son is a commercial pilot who works in the Mediterranean region.
[17:31:36] <janrinok> He gets back to UK a couple of times a year, and we perhaps meet up once a year at most.
[17:31:47] -!- drussell [drussell!~drussell@2604:3d08:wyhz:hvtg::htjo] has joined #soylent
[17:31:57] <janrinok> hi drussel!
[17:32:09] <janrinok> ooops drussell!
[17:33:38] <drussell> G'day... :)
[17:33:55] <janrinok> Hows things?
[17:35:52] <drussell> I had never heard of the Bortle scale before... so I just went and checked a light pollution map. Where my house is at this end of the lake appears to be a 3, but at the north end of the lake is a 1
[17:36:10] <drussell> I always knew you could see many, many stars out here but I never realized how dark it actually is!
[17:36:11] <drussell> Nice.
[17:36:14] <drussell> Oh reasonably well I suppose, all things considered... :)
[17:36:28] <Ingar> drussell: you should rent out that area as astronomy dark site ;)
[17:37:16] <janrinok> I like it where I am. All the street lighting goes off by 2300 and stays off until 0600.
[17:37:47] <drussell> We don't have street lights
[17:38:02] <janrinok> There is a town some distance away and although they never go completely dark they do turn a lot of lighting off.
[17:38:12] <drussell> Well, there are a few around the intersections at the highway, but none in the actual community other than anything on people's private property.
[17:38:44] <Ingar> just look up Belgium, brussels area on any light pollution map and you get why it's so bad here ;)
[17:38:49] <drussell> Ingar: LOL... Indeed, it is dark... haha
[17:39:08] <drussell> Well when I'm in Calgary it's not exactly great either... haha
[17:39:26] <drussell> Here at the lake, on the other hand... is a different matter! :)
[17:40:00] <Ingar> I live at the outskirts of this giant blob of light that is the Paris-Brussels-Amsterdam axis
[17:40:38] <janrinok> I have spent some time in Newfoundland, flying out of Happy Valley / Goose Bay. There and the desert are the darkest places I have ever been to.
[17:41:42] <Ingar> in the meanwhile, I found the moon. and it is damn low. and behind a tree :-]
[17:41:59] <janrinok> cut it down!
[17:42:08] <Ingar> it ain't mine
[17:42:17] <janrinok> did I stutter?
[17:43:01] * janrinok considers that to be an inconsiderate neighbour
[17:43:33] <drussell> Ah, yes... I see you are basically in the area surrounded by a white blob... haha
[17:43:43] <Ingar> there's a spot with better view not far from here
[17:44:17] <Ingar> drussell: yeah, so I do pictures and use gimp a lot :D
[17:44:23] <kolie> Bortle 1? I can't imagine.
[17:44:30] <kolie> The best vieweing site I can think of is a 3.
[17:44:32] <drussell> Sort of like being around Calgary...
[17:44:35] <kolie> And its a few hour drive.
[17:45:04] -!- Runaway1956 [Runaway1956!~OldGuy@the.abyss.stares.back] has joined #soylent
[17:45:11] <drussell> That's what this map says... My house is a 3, but the other end of the lake (~13mi away) is a 1
[17:45:13] <janrinok> hi Runaway
[17:45:14] <kolie> The back side of catalina island is 4.
[17:45:17] <drussell> Solidly well into the 1
[17:45:23] <drussell> My uncle's cabin on the lake is probably a 2
[17:45:32] <kolie> 3 is dark, for relative to the world and where people live.
[17:46:02] <drussell> The only thing that lives at the north end of the lake are things like salmon and bears
[17:46:04] <drussell> LOL
[17:46:40] <drussell> Well, I guess there are a few lake-access-only cabins along the sides until the last mile or so
[17:46:51] <drussell> A lot of it is too steep to have buildings on
[17:47:47] <drussell> AFK for a bit, real work to do here today and it's already almost 11am... haha
[17:48:40] -!- Runaway has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
[17:49:02] <janrinok> .... wonder if it was something I said?
[17:49:44] <drussell> LOL
