[02:08:25] -!- mode/#soylent [+v mrpg] by Imogen
[02:10:09] <mrpg> This site http://www. anyonew. com/ has the same content as ours, the articles, not the menus.
[02:10:53] <mrpg> weird.
[02:10:55] <mrpg> bye.
[02:11:01] -!- mrpg has quit [Client Quit]

[06:44:34] <janrinok> mrpg, you are correct but the discussion links all point back to our site. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...
[07:25:22] <Ingar> does it accept soylent logins ?
[09:24:12] <janrinok> No login required
[12:41:03] <Runaway1956> mrpg is right - https://www.anyonew.com is weird. Clicking their links to read a story just takes you to the SN story, complete with comments.
[12:45:24] <Ingar> domain was created in august 2022
[12:45:40] <Ingar> too bad whois doesnt give you the owner any more
[12:49:22] <Ingar> an inquisitive admin could ofc look up what client addresses are referred from anyonew.com
[13:04:07] <Runaway1956> #JeChieDansLaSeineLe23Juin
[13:04:31] <Runaway1956> Guess I need to book a flight to Paris.
[13:19:25] -!- Runaway1956 has quit [Quit: Leaving]

[13:25:09] <janrinok> If they are bringing people to our site then I wish them luck. They might get a surprise when the sites switch over though.
[13:29:30] <fab23> on the other hand the same contant available with multiple domains does hurt the ranking in search enginges (at least Google).
[13:33:14] <janrinok> I am not particularly worried about search engines yet...
[13:35:36] <fab23> I have not looked at it personally, but that site does mirror all content, including current? But for all the functionaly it does link back to SN, which kind of is okay-ish. But still stealing content and publish is not nice at all.

[14:47:39] <janrinok> fab23, no it only links to the front page stories and can only show what we put out on our pages. It doesn't seem to have access to anything else otherwise I would be far more concerned!
[14:48:55] <janrinok> It would be interesting to note when it first appeared. Another concern would be if the anyonew site begins to change what we have written as a form of attack.
[15:09:43] <chromas> https://github.com
[15:10:39] <janrinok> https://kherrick.github.io https://kherrick.github.io https://kherrick.github.io
[15:11:02] <janrinok> https://kherrick.github.io https://kherrick.github.io and https://kherrick.github.io :)
[15:12:59] <chromas> that's one way to get all the green dots on your github grid
[15:21:15] <fab23> chromas: not sure if the domain owner of anyonew.com site is connected to this github account, maybe its a reverse proxy with just adjusting the title of the site, tries to play a game on SN.
[15:23:27] <chromas> the archives at the bottom link to the github account
[15:26:23] <chromas> though so far I don't see anything on the github account linking back
[15:28:35] <chromas> the page itself is generated with his software; it's on the github.io page, but it could still be someone else with the domain (and maybe copy of his software, for some reason)
[15:29:26] <fab23> that as well
[15:29:37] <chromas> probably ari collecting all our ips
[15:29:59] <wraith> hello
[15:31:52] <chromas> g'morfternevenight
[15:34:27] <janrinok> hi wraith

[16:17:11] <Ingar> is it possible to inject some HTML that's harmless on soylent.org but pesters the other site ?
[16:22:15] <chromas> if it was then the sites we copypaste from would probably do the same thing :D
[16:27:19] <Ingar> good point :D
[16:27:58] <Ingar> and I should have known, wouldn't be the first websiteslurper I wrote
