[12:00:51] <systemd> ^ 03Elon Musk Walks Back ‘Go F**k Themselves’ Comments To Advertisers
[12:02:33] <fab23> Why are people listening to him, he is not even the CEO of 𝕏, he just has some money in the company :)
[13:14:04] -!- halibut has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[13:14:18] -!- halibut [halibut!~halibut@CanHazVHOST/halibut] has joined #soylent
[13:49:17] <Ingar> apparently Musk is CFO of twixter
[13:49:35] <Ingar> 𝕏 I only use for 𝕏org
[13:50:17] <Ingar> or I assume it's a greek Chi and pronounce it accordingly
[13:50:29] <Ingar> makes more sense
[13:50:50] <requerdanos> Twitter -> X makes no sense at all, unfortunately
[13:51:24] <Ingar> oth, noodes are allowed now, so he's jsut waiting to add to the other X's
[13:51:37] <requerdanos> "Twitter," while stupid, has actual meaning and brand recognition. X is just half of a dos equis beer, or a third of an adult film.
[13:52:05] <Ingar> featuring mully and sculder
[13:52:13] <requerdanos> well, perhaps
[13:52:45] <Ingar> David Duchovny does have the experience
[13:52:45] <fab23> it can be everything, Elmo wants to build something like the Chinese WeChat, which does everything there.
[13:53:05] <Ingar> (Red Shoe Diaries, if anyone remembers)
[13:53:18] <requerdanos> yes, but that contains the words "we" and "chat" which have semantic meaning. Not the same as a random, uncommon letter.
[13:54:33] <requerdanos> I mean, name it what you like, tweets are now X posts, twits are now X users, etc., whatever, but one makes sense and the othxer one doesn't.
[13:56:38] <Ingar> twitter never made sense
[13:56:52] <Ingar> at the beginning, it combined all the bad features of forums and short SMS messages
[13:57:45] <requerdanos> standing alone, twitter never made sense; you're right. But as compared to "X" twitter seems intelligent, inspired, even.
[14:08:09] <fab23> X was the former name of PayPal, that is why the Elmo hat das domain name already.
[14:08:33] <fab23> the X.app is his dream :)
[14:10:58] <fab23> luckily I never cared about Twitter (or other Social Media Platforms), IRC is enough, and some IM like Signal and such with circles of people I know personally
[14:20:06] -!- Runaway1956 has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[14:36:33] <schestowitz[TR]> twitter used to be a web site
[14:36:38] <schestowitz[TR]> then it got a pile of JS
[14:36:44] <schestowitz[TR]> and now it's ""webapp"
[14:36:52] <schestowitz[TR]> the quality went down considerably too
[15:20:03] <schestowitz[TR]> <techrights-news> "There has been a lot of toxicity in the comments section of this blog." ☞ https://www.schneier.com LWN said it had the same problem.
[15:20:03] <schestowitz[TR]> -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights- New Blog Moderation Policy - Schneier on Security
[15:20:22] <schestowitz[TR]> SN will realise the same
[15:20:28] <schestowitz[TR]> more so with anon comments and submissions
[15:20:37] <schestowitz[TR]> the WWW is becoming a cesspool of sorts
[16:22:00] <Ingar> becoming? were you asleep the past 15 years?
[17:52:09] <janrinok> "SN will realise the same" - I'm not sure why you said that. We have been battling against this since 2019.
[17:53:18] <janrinok> The majority of anonymous comments are perfectly fine. The problem is a very small handful of abusive ACs who, for some reason, think that they should have all the privileges of those with accounts, and even more say in how the site is run.
[17:54:03] <janrinok> There is a story in the queue just waiting to be released by a 2nd editor.
