[07:02:47] <chromas> python--
[07:15:19] <janrinok> why?
[07:17:07] <chromas> new graphics card. none of the SD instance want to run anymore. When I try poking around with the pip stuff, every time it throws an error it leave the venv so I have to go back in
[07:20:24] <chromas> making things simple by making it more complicated
[07:21:20] <chromas> at least this card doesn't make noise
[07:22:43] -!- _dx3bydt3 [_dx3bydt3!~|dx3bydt3@129.224.yqv.ki] has joined #soylent
[07:23:56] <janrinok> What worked for me was, before installing any SD software, to install the library-provided AMDGPU software and let it install any versions that it wants. After that, when install SD software it just 'finds' the working GPU and carries on working as it should.
[07:24:07] -!- dx3bydt3 has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
[07:24:24] <janrinok> I don't follow any of the 'guides' on the internet as they are all woefully out of date.
[07:24:40] <chromas> invoke installs all the things but when trying to render it just dicks around then segfaults....somehow, in a memory model without segs
[07:24:58] <chromas> auto1111 just throws nonsense errors when installing fresh
[07:25:52] <chromas> a1111 is using rust now I guess
[07:25:55] <janrinok> but have you cleaned everything out and re-installed the recommended AMD packages first. Test the GPU before installing any SD software.
[07:26:41] <janrinok> I am now using the latest kernel, the latest installation of python, the latest version of pytorch, and everything is working for me at the moment.
[07:27:27] <janrinok> You are using arch?
[07:30:27] <janrinok> the advice that I had to use Ubuntu 20.04 was a load of bollocks. Set it up as a gaming GPU and use one of the simple test packages to run some graphics. If all that is working THEN install the SD software.
[07:31:07] <janrinok> That is what solved my problems - but I am running Ubuntu on the GPU machines
[07:31:25] <chromas> gpu works fine as always. Blender works. Games work. It's 100% always been python venv nonsense since apparently each gpu has its own entire version of rocm for no reason
[07:31:57] <chromas> torch.cuda.is_available() returns true
[07:31:59] <janrinok> for me - the latest version of rocm is the best, even though SD has never heard of it
[07:33:15] <chromas> someone should outlaw segfault errors. This is paged memory country
[07:33:17] <chromas> or PAGA
[07:33:21] <janrinok> lol
[07:33:40] * chromas puts bleach and a noose on stable diffusion
[07:34:02] <chromas> I'll just have to use the laptop I guess, with its 2000-whatever nvidia
[07:34:16] <chromas> 2060 or something. the crappy one
[07:34:23] <janrinok> I am assuming that the arch repos are reasonably up to date?
[07:34:45] <chromas> yeah, updated right before putting shiny new card in a couple hours ago
[07:34:54] <chromas> hm you're right there's probably been three kernel updates since
[07:35:30] <chromas> one thing I thought about trying—since, for example, a1111 requires ancient python version—maybe I should install it in a container
[07:36:18] <chromas> hahahahah
[07:36:22] <chromas> I just did pacman -Syu
[07:36:26] <chromas> there really is a new kernel

[07:37:41] <systemd> ^ 03'The Beekeeper' Exposes The Dark World Of Beekeeping Assassins - Best Movie Ever
[07:38:16] <chromas> I've seen one Jason Statham movie that wasn't an action movie. Some weird thing with basement bank drilling. slow and booooooring
[07:42:39] <chromas> So I've gotta do export HSA_OVERRIDE_GFX_VERSION=11.0.0
[07:42:51] <chromas> Now I'm in biznis
[07:43:00] <chromas> I can finally make ari lewds again

[19:15:43] <systemd> ^ 03Houthis launch attack on US aircraft carrier in Red Sea in ‘retaliation’
[19:15:54] <Runaway1956> That one reminds me of a sea story of my own jan.
[19:16:17] <Runaway1956> We were making circles, watching Iranians and Iraqis killing each other.
[19:16:36] <Runaway1956> One side or the other noticed us, and wheeled their artillery around, started shooting at us.
[19:17:43] <Runaway1956> We continued making circles in the water for awhile, observing their shots splashing miles short of us. Literally miles short. Given a horizon of about 21 miles, the shots were splashing at about 12 to 15 miles.
[19:18:33] <Runaway1956> Some admiral somewhere is asking his staff, "Why didn't we notice the Houthis attacking us?"
