[01:23:37] <piusbird> well i am in a high poverty area.. i am thinking of signing up to be a TEALS volunteer and just being happy instead of chasing down clients one minute and having to go on disability the next
[01:24:18] <piusbird> the only people making bank in syracuse ny are doctors and bankers
[02:39:57] <ted-ious> piusbird: Oh wow I didn't realize syracuse was that bad off.
[02:40:06] <ted-ious> What happened there?
[02:40:22] <ted-ious> Did the economy not survive the downfall of kodak?
[02:40:37] <piusbird> that's Rodchester
[02:41:10] <piusbird> Syracuse lost a ton of industry and a ton of tech sector stuff
[02:41:40] <piusbird> AWS hit all the management companies hard
[02:42:01] <piusbird> GE outsourced, etc, etc
[02:43:44] <piusbird> the hospital system is now the largest employer
[02:44:19] <piusbird> it's a damn good hospital, people come from all over to use it
[02:44:35] <ted-ious> We really need to stop putting toxic junk in our food supply and making people unhealthy. :(
[02:44:48] <ted-ious> Hospitals should not make huge profits.
[02:45:38] <drussell> I was going to say earlier, "it certainly depends significantly on your current geographical area and local opportunities," as to what you can expect to be paid.
[02:45:51] <drussell> (and whatever the local currency is... and is doing...)
[02:46:01] <piusbird> oh they are still a public entity so profits are not a thing
[02:46:14] <ted-ious> Well that's good.
[02:46:27] <piusbird> don't know what they actually do with it
[02:46:40] <ted-ious> Big pharma is still making lots of money there I'm sure.
[02:47:08] <ted-ious> But we were speaking in dollars so I assume we're both in the usa.
[02:47:31] <piusbird> but the second largest employer is are Envronmental Sciences University
