[06:06:33] <chromas> hm, remember cloud2butt plus?
[06:06:49] <chromas> would be funny to always see buttflare errors
[06:06:56] <chromas> =s cloud2butt plus
[06:06:59] <systemd> Cloud To Butt Plus WebExtension - https://addons.mozilla.org
[06:07:25] <chromas> hm, last updated three days ago. neat
[06:08:18] <chromas> I think I uninstalled it when I became an editor because I kept seeing "butt" appear in story edits
[06:11:06] <chromas> "Simultaneously laughing my cloud off and horrified when searching about cloud-based systems in front of coworkers. You will get desensitized, please prepare another browser for public work related activities. 10/10."
[08:09:17] <janrinok> I had a good giggle at thanks - a good start to my working day!
[08:31:51] <Ingar> back to work indeed, after having a week off
[08:31:57] <Ingar> Windows... I can't stand it any mroe
[08:32:09] <janrinok> by bike?
[08:32:12] <Ingar> what is this? Fisher Price?
[08:32:24] <Ingar> janrinok: always by bike
[08:32:56] <Ingar> imho, it still runs a bit heavy
[08:33:30] <janrinok> I think that if you upgrade wot Windows 11 you get a free set of coloured pencils and a drawing book of cartoon animals!
[08:33:48] <janrinok> *upgrade to
[08:34:43] <Ingar> what, no sticker?
[08:35:19] <janrinok> maybe - I am going on second hand information :)

[09:58:56] <chromas> I thought XP was the Fisher Price OS
[09:59:50] <chromas> 8 was the short bus OS
[10:00:42] <janrinok> I didn't realise that they already had names !
[10:05:53] <chromas> Vista was peak style
[10:06:23] <chromas> Now everything looks like a CGA DOS program
[10:06:41] <chromas> colored rectangles everywhere
[10:06:47] <chromas> oh whoops that's racist
[10:06:54] <chromas> I meant rectangles of color
[10:09:14] <janrinok> Having not used windows since Win2000 many of the names are lost on me.
[10:38:49] -!- cosurgi has quit [Changing host]

[14:00:18] <drussell> 2000, XP and Vista are the only NT (New Technology) Windows versions with names. 2000 is NT 5, XP is NT 5.1, Vista is NT 6...
[14:00:45] <drussell> Then they went back to just using the version number, Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11.
[14:02:01] <janrinok> thanks - I just didn't realise that others used 'unofficial' names such as those mentioned above
[14:02:14] <drussell> (NT 3, 3.1 and 4 didn't have names either, of course...)
[14:02:49] <drussell> Well, they also had "internal" Microsoft codenames during development before release, such as Longhorn... but that's not the actual prodt name
[14:03:16] <janrinok> Oh, yes, I remember those names now that you mention them
[14:07:25] <drussell> NT3 was quite limited in featureset, but functional, NT 3.1 was good, NT4 was even better... Peak Windows was the NT4. Windows 2000 (NT5) era. It started to go downhill with 5.1 (XP) with bling and general bloat but little extra functionality over 2000. 6 (Vista) just sucked, completely. Windows 7 is good, through very bloated compared to 2000, and will probably be the last "decent" version of Windows ever released. 8 sucked.
[14:07:25] <drussell> 10 sucks less. 11 sucks more.
[14:08:26] <drussell> s/NT4. Windows 2000 (NT5) era/NT4 - Windows 2000 (NT5) era/

[15:57:21] <Ingar> chromas: at some point not too long ago, all ui designed seems to have gone through the window
[15:58:12] <Ingar> not even mentioning dark patterns and marketing bullshit
[15:58:55] <Ingar> Windows 11 isn't jsut bad though
[15:59:03] <Ingar> this is a whole different beast
[16:03:24] <chromas> The nice parts of XP were faster boot and my sound chip didn't hang as often
[16:03:56] <chromas> 2000 boot time was almost 2 minutes for whatever reason, while xp was around 15 secs
[16:05:53] <Ingar> the fastest booting computer I currently have is my rpi5 :D
[16:06:37] <Ingar> windws 10 cheats, as it preloads your session
[16:07:04] <Ingar> (try booting windows, then select shutdown from login window. it will warn you someone is logge4d on)
[16:36:36] <chromas> xp was fast without that
[16:36:44] <chromas> and without an ssd
[16:37:04] <chromas> but if you had an antivirus installed, especially with a smok amount of ram then it would take all day to boot
[16:44:31] <ted-ious> If microsoft was smart and not evil they could sell a gaming version of windows that doesn't have all the bloat that nobody wants and gets in the way of gaming.
[16:45:05] <ted-ious> I bet they could charge twice as much and make much more money doing that.
[16:45:29] <ted-ious> But then they wouldn't be able to spy on those users and sell their data.
