[09:19:24] <Aristartus> Is there a Date Certain, yet?
[09:25:36] -!- Aristartus has quit [Quit: Client closed]
[09:27:22] <janrinok> as if like clockwork. Yes the date 14 Oct 1066 was certainly a date, and 16 April 2024 will certainly be the date tomorrow. Actually I have thousands of dates. Are there any dates in particular that you would like?
[13:38:55] <Runaway1956> I think he's looking for a date with a living, breathing, human being. He's tired of hugging his computer. https://soylentnews.org

[13:43:20] <janrinok> I have looked in my big book of dates - nobody seems interested in getting in physical contact with him.
[13:50:15] <Ingar> I might have some face huggers stored somewhere
[13:51:26] <janrinok> :)
[13:57:04] <Runaway1956> chromas - the guy who made that manual shift pen is - shall we say - "differently enabled"? Maybe borderline crazy?
[14:04:17] <fab23> just a few minutes from where I work :) https://nzz.roundshot.co The snow man will be burned at 18:00 CEST :)
[14:06:12] <fab23> aka in 2 hours
[14:06:16] <janrinok> You have shown us other views before from that same camera. I enjoy looking at these sort of things
[14:07:29] <janrinok> The crane arm looks a bit distorted....
[14:08:09] <fab23> janrinok: I guess so, probably once when it was heavily snowing or something else happen on the usually empty place. Normaly there are small groups of chairs chained together, so at least you can place them you like and sit on them.
[14:08:43] <fab23> janrinok: unfortunately it is only a static image updated every 10 minutes with about 5 minutes delay until available.
[14:09:26] <janrinok> yeah I realise the cause. I find it quite amusing actually.

[14:10:23] <systemd> ^ 03Sechseläutenplatz - Wikipedia
[14:10:34] <janrinok> I think the shoreline looking S might be distorted too, but it could be accurate, I'm not sure
[14:11:20] <janrinok> I'm sure - the water is distorted too. Still a brilliant shot of the area.
[14:11:27] <fab23> ah, it is currently quite windy, maybe that did tilt the camera during recording
[14:12:04] <fab23> the 15:50 image was better then the 18:00 is now
[14:12:15] <fab23> i mean the 16:00
[14:13:04] <janrinok> I wish more cities did things like this
[14:15:33] <fab23> janrinok: reload, now the image is even worse on some other parts :)
[14:16:33] <fab23> all the buildings an such are now very curvy
[14:24:12] <janrinok> isn't physics wonderful

[16:08:16] <janrinok> fab23 the platz is quite full now
[16:10:05] <fab23> janrinok: but they will not burn the snow man, to windy. We just walked up to the place and then from the speakers of the public transport was the information that it is cancelt and people should leave the place.
[16:31:41] <fab23> They are still doing the horse riding around the snow man, so Swiss TV keeps sending and interviewing people in front of it.
[16:52:49] <Ingar> you have snow?
[16:54:29] <fab23> Ingar: it was only for one day in December :)
[16:55:31] <Ingar> well tbh, friday evening it was like 20C here
[16:55:38] <Ingar> and I just left work with 5C
[16:55:44] <Ingar> so anything is possible :D
[16:56:28] <fab23> Ingar: just a paper snow man on a pole :) https://nzz.roundshot.co but as mention too windy and they canceled the burning.
[16:57:38] <Ingar> if it's like here, we just had a nice thunderstorm passing through
[16:57:54] <Ingar> and atm the sky is blue again :D
[16:59:14] <fab23> janrinok: there at the flag pole is the camera, I guess you can imagine how strong the wind is -> https://www.wenks.ch
[17:01:36] <janrinok> when is it actually going to be lit?
[17:02:01] <janrinok> ah, sorry, just back read and seen your comment about the delay
[17:02:26] <fab23> delay is 1 year :)
[17:03:12] <janrinok> seems a bit excessive....
[17:03:25] <fab23> the gusts winds will continue until tomorrow evening, based on the alert they sent out yesterday.
[17:04:07] <Ingar> is there any place in europe with clear skies ?
[17:04:10] <fab23> janrinok: they will not burn it, I guess they will disassemble it again and put it into storage for next year.
[17:04:12] <janrinok> they can't leave that poor snowman standing there for another year
[17:04:35] <fab23> Ingar: its sunny her, just with strong winds :)
[17:04:41] <fab23> s/her/here/
[17:05:12] <janrinok> same here. Was cloudy earlier, that has cleared, but there are still very stong winds.
[17:05:12] <Ingar> can't have strong wind either
[17:05:28] <fab23> janrinok: the place will be uses for other events, he can not stay there. I guess quite soon the Cirucus Knie will be there for 1 month.
[17:05:39] <fab23> this morning it was raining
[17:07:01] <janrinok> we had a storm about 3 months ago and a large branch of an oak tree fractured. It is held on by something thinner that my finger and is blowing all over the place. A couple of my neighbours are betting beers on when it will actually fall down!
[17:07:46] <janrinok> it is actually in my garden - so I will get a free beer anyway :)
[17:08:22] <Ingar> on the way home I cleared a large branch from the bicycle lane ;)
[17:08:34] <janrinok> hopefully not by riding into it?
[17:09:04] <Ingar> nah I saw it coming from several hundred meters away
[17:09:07] <janrinok> this will be too big for me to move until I cut it up for firewood
[17:09:30] <Ingar> I could still haul it on my own so it wasn't THAT big
[17:09:51] <Ingar> and I usually don't have a chainsaw with me when I'm on the bike
[17:10:24] <janrinok> somehow I wasn't exactly expecting you to
[17:11:46] <Ingar> me puts a chainsaw in his backpack
[17:18:52] <janrinok> fab23 - you've got lovely weather now. Nip down and give them a box of matches.
[17:35:48] <fab23> I will just walk over to it now, as most people have left.
[17:36:50] <fab23> and temperature is still nice 16˚C
[18:05:02] <fab23> https://www.wenks.ch
[18:06:03] <fab23> janrinok: they did not let me play with matches :)
[18:08:13] <janrinok> spoilsports!
[18:08:43] <janrinok> that latest image is VERY distorted
[18:10:02] <fab23> I should have filmed the flag pole, it is really wobbly in the wind :)
[18:11:17] <fab23> janrinok: the tram als looks funny, like 4-5 times too short :)
[18:11:23] <fab23> s/als/also/
[18:13:10] <fab23> hm, it looks like the cam is not able to work any more, should already have at least the 20:00 and soon the 20:10 image.
[18:22:00] <janrinok> 20:00 out now but not worth it
[18:22:48] <fab23> jo still looks strange
[18:23:26] <janrinok> jo?
[18:24:58] <fab23> jo (slang German) = yes
[18:25:57] <janrinok> ah, that is one that I haven't heard before
[18:26:58] <fab23> hm, maybe more Swissgerman instead of ja
[18:27:29] <janrinok> what is the CORSO building behind the bonfire?
[18:27:30] <fab23> sometimes as jop, similar to yep I guess.
[18:28:49] <fab23> ah, Corso is a Cinema, but only small entry in the front of the building, not sure what is in the upper floors
[18:29:09] <fab23> the red Santa Lucia sign is from a restaurant
[18:29:30] <fab23> ah, the Cinema entry is just left of that :)
[18:30:47] <janrinok> ... and the Opera House is just to the right of your picture, I believe?

[18:31:18] <janrinok> hi requerdanos
[18:31:41] <janrinok> just a bit of general chatting going on here
[18:31:48] <requerdanos> Hello. My ISP just left after repairing a 3-hour downtime.
[18:31:55] <fab23> janrinok: no the Opera is not visible, let me put up an other image :)
[18:32:18] <janrinok> fab23 - know, I realise that. it would be on your right hand side
[18:32:33] <janrinok> requerdanos, what turned out to be the problem?
[18:32:33] <fab23> yes
[18:32:51] <requerdanos> a bad fiber modem.
[18:33:07] <fab23> janrinok: on the cam left of the non-burning snow man
[18:33:55] <janrinok> repaired/replaced at their expense?
[18:34:02] <janrinok> fab23 - yep
[18:34:42] <requerdanos> replaced at their expense (1 hr travel time + 1 hr work to get it registered on the network) -- plus an hour to find someone who knew how to configure a static IP address and forward ports to my webserver.
[18:35:45] <janrinok> lol
[18:35:47] <fab23> janrinok: https://www.wenks.ch left of the Böögg (the official name of the snow man) the NZZ (Neue Zürcher Zeitung) building on right of him the Opera
[18:35:48] <requerdanos> I figure, showing up within an hour and working til it's correct is a good response, even if 3 hours is a long time for my websites to be down
[18:36:37] <fab23> janrinok: on the NZZ build the flag pole with the camera
[18:36:46] <fab23> s/build/building/
[18:37:09] <janrinok> requerdanos, yes, can't really complain at that.
[18:37:33] <janrinok> fab23 thanks, still trying to see the camera
[18:38:21] <fab23> janrinok: just below the flag, thats why you sometimes see the flag (blue/white stripes) on the cam :)
[18:38:25] <janrinok> ah, the camera is just below the flag itself.
[18:38:41] <janrinok> I had just made it out
[18:39:45] <fab23> on the cam to Corso sign is lit in red now
[18:43:46] <janrinok> requerdanos, are your websites time critical?
[18:44:09] <requerdanos> No. They are arguably not important at all, of course except to me.
[18:45:30] <janrinok> understood. I have a couple running 24/7 here, mostly RasPi, but one big box server which contains lots of stuff including SN sock-puppet detector and anti-spam software.
[18:46:04] <janrinok> that should be 'a few running 24/7'
[18:46:43] <requerdanos> I had my sites on my little single board ARM machine but it only has 1GB RAM so I moved them to a real PC recently.
[18:56:42] <janrinok> Time for me to end my day. See you guys tomorrow maybe? Enjoy what is left of today!
[18:56:59] <requerdanos> Have a good evening.
[18:57:23] <janrinok> thx
