[18:04:25] <Bytram> Runaway: chromas: Here's a follow-up on YouTube warnings about using an ad-blocker. It appears that I can circumvent the warnings by right-clicking a link and then selecting "Open Link in New Private Window"
[18:05:47] <Bytram> But, that may be affected by the settings I have on my ad-blockers
[18:09:33] <Bytram> I use "NoScript" and "uBlock Origin" as my ad-blockers. What do *you* use?
[18:17:44] <Runaway> I started seeing those warnings in Firefox and in ungoogle-Chromium Bytram. In both cases, I right-clicked on the warning, and told Ublock Origin to block element.
[18:17:53] <Runaway> Haven't seen them anymore.
[19:29:44] <Bytram> Runaway: Oh! *now* I get what you were talking about. I don't recall doing that right-click with "uBlock Origin"! I think I ummm, hmmm, now I am not-at-all sure about what I did in the past. I'll try it and let you-all know how it works out!!
[19:48:17] <Bytram> Runaway: Ugh. I can't seem to make it work with "uBlock Origin" (from now on: uBO). :(
[19:51:08] <Runaway> Hmmm - did you reload the page after?
[19:51:22] <Bytram> TYI5; Do this, see x happen, am now looking at y on your screen. Then, do ...
[19:51:56] <Runaway> Could be, it's not the same warning I see - some different mechanism
[19:52:11] <Bytram> I *think* so, but not certain. BRB
[19:53:25] <Runaway> On another browser, I sometimes see a countdown timer, if I wait - ohhhh - 30 seconds the video plays with no other ads
[19:53:29] <Bytram> Oh, I am using Firefox, not sure how to tell which version :/
[19:55:10] <Bytram> I just closed Firefox
[19:55:53] <Bytram> I just started Firefox
[19:56:44] <Bytram> Launched YouTube
[19:58:26] <Runaway> so far, so good
[19:58:53] <Runaway> You run Windows 7, right?
[20:00:24] <Bytram> Right-clicked on a link; open in a new tan, waa sew seconds for the page to finish loading... and bAM! fet YouTube warning
[20:01:05] <Bytram> Ubuntu Linux
[20:02:17] <Bytram> Back in a couple minutes
[20:05:22] <Runaway> Hmmm. Ubuntu. Apparently something is different. How about your block lists? I think I turned on all the block lists in the ublock options page, except foreign lists.
[20:08:33] <Bytram> Hmm, I'll check. May take a while.
[20:14:42] <Bytram> Opened uBO. Immediately saw "uBlock Origin" Next line: "Can always read and change data on this site". Then a line under which I see "Manafe extensions"
[20:16:45] <Bytram> Remember, I CAN still right-click and "Open Link in New Private Window"
[20:21:18] <Runaway> hmmmm . . . I click the "hamburger" menu in Firefox, click "addons and themes" and I get a full page menu with addons listed. At each entry, I can click a 3-dot menu, where I see an "options" selection.
[20:22:04] <Runaway> Clicking options, I can then switch tabs over to "filter lists"
[20:22:18] <Runaway> There are a lot more options, some of which I don't know how to use.
[20:24:34] <chromas> Haven't used nice noscript in years; umatrix is more superiororer
[20:25:24] <chromas> s/nice//
[20:32:38] <Bytram> Now my head hurts. It's already been a long day, and I have a couple friends who are trying to deal with the shootings in Maine because they worked/lived in that area and it is challenging to offer help over-the-phone. :(
[20:34:10] <Bytram> Thanks for all your help, but I need to take a break right now.
[22:28:17] <chromas> Well, shoot
[22:51:22] <Bytram> chromas: Ok... "Bang!" :^)
