[04:34:01] <progo> I had to uninstall Windows Terminal because nothing I did would cause it to release the [Win]+[`] "quake mode" desktop-global hotkey that I was using for another purpose.
[04:34:01] <progo> today I learned: ConEmu (for Windows) has the one Windows Terminal feature I really wanted: "Adjust lightness of indistinguishable text [colors]" as ConEmu calls it
[04:34:03] <progo> yay!
[04:34:49] <progo> lets you run any colorful terminal/tty/console software without squinting as it conflicts with your chosen palette
[06:22:59] <chromas> You can't just change the color scheme?

[09:15:21] <Ingar> or install linux and have the choice between a wide range of terminal emulators
[09:16:11] <Ingar> Windows is end of the line anyway

[16:19:14] <progo> @chromas pick any color palette that works with your favorite app #1. Open app #2 and the grey on blue in #2 doesn't work with this palette. Better if the terminal actively changes the palette when colors clash.

[16:29:14] -!- prg has quit [Quit: leaving]
[16:35:13] <progo> Also my work laptop, which I didn't choose, works better with windows than Linux. I could use Linux. Staying with windows for now.
[16:49:46] -!- systemd has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]

[18:13:35] <chromas> progo: why it #2 concerned with some system-wide palette? Are we running 8-bit screens again?

[19:40:50] <progo> @chromas if you use 16 color mode in your app you're not choosing color values, just names from a 16 color palette. Some color combination don't work in some palettes. On 16 color mode you must choose a palette in the terminal for all the apps that run in it. So... some terminals lately adapt their palette on the fly if the color names chosen by
[19:40:50] <progo> the app inside have a conflict in the actual color values from the palette entry
[19:42:18] <progo> Most console apps use 16 color mode
[19:42:19] <chromas> so like if your application decides to use dark gray-on-black then it will change it to medium-gray?
[19:42:27] <progo> Yes
[19:43:01] <progo> The app chose colors on 16color mode that worked on the author's termimal
[19:43:37] <chromas> Also why are they still using 16-color mode? it's the current year
[19:43:52] <progo> Shorter control codes
[19:44:05] <progo> Works on ancient termimals
[19:44:58] <chromas> 4GHz 16-core CPUs with 8,000 GPU cores, 256GB of ram, 8k displays, all so we can still pretend we're using teletypes :D
