[07:47:01] <aristarchus> Strange, keep getting blocked. Is there some whitelist of VPNs that are allowed to connect to SN? Asking for a friend.
[08:09:04] <aristarchus> OK, out of here before there are more death threats.

[21:49:51] <Bytram> Since the earliest day of my using using DOS (Version 3.2, IIRC) I could press Ctrl+D and get a BEEP sound. Does anyone know a trick to produce a BEEP on Linux? (Ubuntu Release 22.04.2 LTS 64-bit)?
[22:05:42] <requerdanos> istr the `beep` command was not working for you
[22:36:21] -!- aristarchus [aristarchus!~aristarch@37.19.mwg.vou] has joined #soylent
[22:42:01] <aristarchus> *beep*
[22:42:46] -!- aristarchus has quit [Quit: aristarchus]
[22:51:28] <halibut> Using the old PC speaker typically requires support built-in to the kernel (usually compiled in or as a module, usually named pcspkr). The beep command should work if that is enabled, and you might need to adjust volume.
[22:51:48] <requerdanos> asssuming, of course, a hardware speaker connected to the motherboard
[22:51:59] <halibut> Alternatively, download a car horn sound, and run any of many alternatives: mpv beep.wav, aplay beep.wav, etc.
[22:52:58] <halibut> Yes, assuming the hardware is even there. There is almost certainly some sort of sound card and speakers, though, so the beep.wav version would probably work with less effort, if you do not want to relive the old DOS sound.
[23:14:54] <Freeman> I've typically just clicked the volume slider in the mixer. Though, not sure if that works on Linux.
[23:15:08] -!- Freeman has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[23:24:56] <chromas> yeah he's running a laptop so most likely the beep will come from the sound chip
