[13:21:31] <Bytram> help! Even "firefox --first-startup" does not work. Ubuntu. Fresh starup/reboot. "firefox --first-startup". Spins for about a second or two with and then my PC crashes. Repeatable. I'm gonna take a shower now and will check back in ~20-30 minutes.
[13:25:53] <janrinok> sounds like an incomplete update has occurred. Restart whatever update method you usually use and just let it run.
[14:00:41] <Bytram> TX for the reply! I normally wait for the next time that I am advised that an update is available and it asks if I want to apply it now... do you mean that one?
[14:01:43] <janrinok> No, either "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y" or use one of the admin GUIs
[14:07:16] <Bytram> Glad I asked! And thanks for the cleat explanation... on my way with the first option!
[14:17:47] <Bytram> and... it did the same thing; it just shut me down. I am rebooted w/ a hard reboot to make sure that nothing is still running...

[14:23:43] <inz> Maybe try memtest86 to see if your machine is b0rked
[14:27:28] <janrinok> what is 'tracker-miner.....'
[14:27:39] <janrinok> that isn't in a standard install
[14:30:23] <Bytram> inz: Great idea! Hmmm, no such command found :(
[14:30:59] <inz> janrinok, it is gnome's metadata extraction thingie
[14:31:06] <inz> Bytram, it might be in your boot menu
[14:31:13] <Bytram> I recognize the command name
[14:31:24] <inz> It's not a command per se, it's a "OS"
[14:31:27] <janrinok> yes - boot menu for ubuntu
[14:31:36] <janrinok> it is usually the bottom option
[14:35:48] <Bytram> boot menu? I turn on my pc. It asks me to enter my PW, and then it immediately brings me to my normally-booted-up screen.
[14:38:36] <janrinok> when you restart the computer hold the 'Esc' key down - but it might be another key,
[14:38:52] <Bytram> where I an choose cmds like: Internet > HexChat
[14:39:58] <Bytram> Ahh! Wish me luck!
[14:40:26] <janrinok> no, hard reboot. As soon as that starts press the Esc key - it should bring up the ubuntu boot menu.
[14:41:57] <Bytram> Got it! tx!!

[15:19:40] <inz> might be rshift
[15:20:01] <inz> Seems that it doesn't matter which, just hold shift while booting up
[15:23:08] <Bytram> THANKYOU! I will try it, but really GTG. Laters
