[12:42:21] <janrinok> Just for Information: There is a lot of NATO intelligence collection being carried out today. 3 separate aircraft sorties airborne at the same time (2 x AWACs and 1 x Rivet Joint. Recently we have only been seeing 1 aircraft a day with some days nothing at all.
[12:43:12] <janrinok> Not sure if something is happening or is thought to be imminent. The aircraft have been active since before dawn which is also unusual.
[12:45:30] <Runaway1956> Winter storm coming in.
[12:46:08] <Runaway1956> I happened to go into town last evening, late, and watched an entire convoy of electrical crew's trucks moving north
[12:46:33] <Runaway1956> It's always a bad sign when electrical crews start rolling
[12:47:00] <janrinok> Area of coverage is all the way from Kaliningrad down to the S edge of the Black Sea.
[12:48:42] <Runaway1956> Where you getting that from, janrinok?
[12:50:13] <janrinok> FlightRadar24 - I have a business account. Another AWACS airborne now, making a total of 3 but I think 1 is about to go off-task.
[12:52:27] <janrinok> 2 x NATO AWACS, 1 x US AWACS, 1 x US Rivet Joint. One Nato AWACs and the RJ are going off task I think but I don't recall seeing 4 aircraft active in 1 day since last Feb - but I may have missed some.
[12:53:09] <Runaway1956> Interesting . . . I need to learn how to use the tracker before it makes much sense
[12:54:27] <Runaway1956> Not a lot of traffic over Ukraine, of course, not much over baltic states either
[12:56:09] <janrinok> No, but that is because FR24 has agreed not to show ac - it only helps one side or the other. It does occasionally show a civilian ac passing over at high altitude, usually long-haul following the great circle routes to W Europe or US/Canada
[12:57:53] <janrinok> The only independent ADSB tracker has just been bought out so I don't think they will be 'independent' much longer. They used to show everything which pisses off governments and the wealthy like Elon.
[12:58:15] <janrinok> Submission in the queue to go out probably within the next 24 hours or so.
[13:00:39] <Runaway1956> Bleahhh - I want to go out, but it's wet and cold, maybe colder than yesterday
[13:00:45] <Runaway1956> I'm just not up to that
[13:02:56] <janrinok> Ah, a US tanker aircraft has joined the party - looks like they might be there for a while
[13:07:02] <Runaway1956> That surely makes the aircrew happy
[13:07:14] <janrinok> And another US tanker has a holding position just SW of Warsaw.
[13:07:42] <janrinok> Things are getting busy....
[13:09:11] <janrinok> Swedish fighter active too in the Baltic
[13:12:57] <janrinok> it _could_ be an exercise but it would be very provocative to do so along the edge of a war zone. Not something that NATO usually does, in fact exercises have been cancelled for less.
[13:15:50] <Runaway1956> found haze25 over Latvia
[13:16:39] <Runaway1956> Huh - disappeared -
[13:17:36] <janrinok> ac type?
[13:17:45] <Runaway1956> blackhawk chopper
[13:18:20] <Runaway1956> The image was of a black military looking craft
[13:18:31] <janrinok> there is a 'Blocked' aircraft operating between Warsaw and the Ukrainian border - but it is low level. Might be doing something naughty...
[13:19:43] <Runaway1956> another blackhawk, haze15 northwest of bialystok
[13:20:32] <Runaway1956> haze24 near Alytus
[13:20:36] <janrinok> Unusual for that area. They can disappear from view if they simply switch off their ADSB and SSR/IFF equipments. They can still be seen by ATC on primary echoes, but will not get tracked by FR24
[13:21:04] <janrinok> seen ty
[13:21:33] <Runaway1956> my session has timed out, and I probably can't see half of what you can anyway
[13:21:46] <janrinok> they are probably part of the NATO reinforcements.
[13:21:48] <Runaway1956> Spotted another blackhawk before it blanked on me
[13:29:48] <janrinok> Haze 15, 23, and 24 seem to be flying from the area N of Warsaw towards Vilnyus region. All identified as BlackHawks.
[13:31:45] <Runaway1956> There's another blackhawk, callsign cross something, west southwest of them
[13:32:24] <Runaway1956> I think I found both tankers you referred to, and I see NATO 21 and NATO 11 aloft, near each other
[13:32:57] <janrinok> the NATO c/s are the AWACs
[13:33:17] <janrinok> the KC135 tanker has no callsign.
[13:36:06] <janrinok> I have found Cross49 - he is in Latvia, The Haze c/s are travelling from Poland into Lithuania - but they might continue further of course.
[13:37:16] <Runaway1956> This takes me back decades - watching a green screen, reporting to officer of the deck skunks and bogies
[13:39:14] <janrinok> These seem to be deploying from Powidz which is an US Forward Operating Base. A Chinook (Easy26) has just left there.
[13:39:42] <Runaway1956> nato11 seems to be headed out into the black sea
[13:40:25] <Runaway1956> apparent bearing should take him much closer to sevastopol than any of the civlian traffic
[13:40:45] <janrinok> Yes, just noted that, and the tanker is returning to base.
[13:41:15] <Runaway1956> I spoke too soon
[13:41:43] <janrinok> He might set up a race-track in his current position which is what the often do.
[13:43:40] <janrinok> NATO21 is watching more Northwards, and NATO11 will possible watch Eastwards.
[13:44:50] <Runaway1956> I wanted so badly to go aloft in an AWACS, just to see what they can see
[13:45:18] <Runaway1956> My request got shot down twice, then I transferred to sea, never had an opportunity again
[13:46:54] -!- AzumaHazuki [AzumaHazuki!~hazuki@the.end.of.time] has joined #soylent
[13:48:14] <janrinok> I understand - I was fortunate enough to fly on UK ISTARs aircraft for a while but not AWACS. Got promoted away from flying and into specialist ground roles.

[18:12:26] <janrinok> Another Rivet Joint (UK) and KC135 tanker (US) are now operating to W of the Black Sea. That is the 6th intel collection flight we have seen today. They are watching something....
[18:43:07] <janrinok> Rivet Joint is now heading towards Turkey over the Black Sea and has a UK Typhoon FGR4 to protect it.
