[07:23:28] -!- systemd [systemd!~systemd@pid1] has joined #soylent
[07:24:22] <janrinok> systemd not playing nice, nowadays?
[07:25:05] <chromas> I went the lazy way and made the g'day script a phpoo thing
[07:25:17] <chromas> so the bot farms that out to a web page, which isn't setup on the new box
[07:26:04] * chromas pharmaceutically spanks a farmful of g'days in janrinok's general direction
[07:26:55] <janrinok> for that I suppose I should thank you - but what the hell will I do with all of these g'days?
[07:27:45] <chromas> Hand them out to naughty childrens on halloween
[07:28:30] <janrinok> I'll have to stuff them with fentanyl to be with the 'in' crowd.
[07:28:31] <chromas> After awhile the server can't connect to the 3d printer anymore. I'm pretty sure the usb driver quits agreeing with the usb serial port adapter, so instead of figuring out which kernel module to reload I just rebooted the whole thing
[07:28:38] <chromas> das racist
[07:29:07] <janrinok> and expensive!
[07:29:52] <chromas> But according to legend, neighborhood meanies are always handing out free blades and samples to the kiddos
[07:30:46] <janrinok> how long is the "while" between the 3d printer dropping out each time. Once a month I would ignore, once a day gets a bit irritating, and once a minute is a bummer.
[07:31:09] <chromas> Since whenever I rebooted and left irc last :)
[07:31:15] <chromas> a few weeks I think
[07:31:33] <chromas> Not a big deal, it's just that replugging it doesn't work. Something in the pc
[07:31:48] <chromas> Maybe yet another buggy driver
[07:31:54] <janrinok> I could probably live with that but it would become a frustration after a time, that's for sure
[07:32:25] <janrinok> Is that the only piece of USB connected hardware that has a problem?
[07:32:26] <chromas> I had to disable the Reltek SD card reader because someone fscked the driver a while back so that it causes systemd journal spam after awhile
[07:32:57] <chromas> no, there's a webcam that likes to drop out all the time. I assumed it's because it's on an extension cable though it's not very long
[07:33:24] <janrinok> have you updated to the latest software - or even looked at another distro?
[07:33:53] <chromas> I should've done updates before rebooting. Maybe I'll do it after this print
[07:34:13] <chromas> Of course, updating is what cause the problem before :D
[07:34:23] <janrinok> Or it could be a hardware problem that is just beginning to surface
[07:34:45] <janrinok> I hope not, that would be a more expensive option.
[07:34:58] <janrinok> You have more than one machine I take it?
[07:35:15] <chromas> Something in the realtek driver would output something to the journal, then a bit later it would do it again, but more times, as if the buffer didn't get cleared last time. Each time, it would have a few more entries, until after a few hours it would be outputting thousands of the same message each time, so it would hog ram and cpu
[07:35:39] <janrinok> that is an unusual bug, for sure
[07:35:43] <chromas> and of course, that would cause pid1 to use up hundreds of MB, because pid1 is where log buffers should be
[07:36:40] <chromas> I have more than one. When I got a new box, it started having the same problem, though it's an intel cpu instead of amd and it's not 10 years old
[07:37:24] <chromas> I read online somewhere that some other piece of hardware had that issue and people decided it was a change in the driver. Can't remember what it was though
[07:37:27] <janrinok> if they are running the same OS then that is where I would start to look.
[07:37:35] <chromas> yeah it's all linux
[07:38:27] <janrinok> are you drawing a lot of power from your USB connectors?
[07:39:04] <janrinok> It might be worth trying an external power supply and just using the USB for data.
[07:39:05] <chromas> Just a web cam and the 3d printer connection, which internally is a usb-to-ancient-serial-port adapter
[07:39:35] <janrinok> The 3d printer has its own supply I suppose?
[07:39:43] <chromas> oh yeah and an led strip for light. I should plug that somewhere else
[07:40:33] <chromas> It does. That's way, wayy too much power for usb. And it must be a cheapo psu too because it makes my fluorescent lights flicker when the temperatures get to where they need to be
[07:41:35] <janrinok> that doesn't sound good - and if fluctuating power is getting back to the main board you _will_ experience similar problems.
[07:42:46] <janrinok> I don't know how handy you are with a soldering iron etc. But I would be tempted to convert and old computer PSU into a standalone PSU to remove the power requirements from USB devices.
[07:43:28] * janrinok has 3 or 4 in use at various places around the house.
[07:43:41] <chromas> oh that's the psu in the printer. puter works fine, except for that usb burp every few weeks
[07:44:12] <chromas> I wish somebody would make a NUC-like pc with just sata ports instead of 50 usb ports
[07:44:24] <chromas> and not shitty usb-to-sata adapters
[07:44:30] <janrinok> understood, but if the power fluctuations are going back up the usb cable then it can play havoc with the computer too
[07:46:12] <chromas> If I understand correctly, and I probably don't, the psu doesn't haz proper correction for all the PWM the board does, so it draws hard from the AC input, then nothing then hard
[07:46:58] <chromas> So I can upgrade the psu, but I was thinking of getting a bigger printer anyhow. I made some crocs for a wo-worker out of TPU, and they just barely fit printed diagonally on all axes
[07:47:10] <janrinok> I can understand what (and why) they might have done that but the printer psu could be the source of the problems.
[07:47:27] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Galway Researchers Turn to Coral as a Way to Treat Bone Injuries - https://sylnt.us - no-bones-about-it
[07:47:58] <chromas> Wow, I know they're studying hard but that's no reason to turn themselves into coral
[07:51:29] <chromas> I gotta spend all my moneys before the fed inflates all my savings away
[07:57:26] <chromas> oh yeah, the other thing is I have to cockblock the power pin on the usb port because the controller will otherwise get power from it, even though it's powered by its own psu
[07:57:55] <chromas> so when you turn off the printer, it still gets power and gets weird.
[07:58:03] <chromas> creality--
[07:58:03] <Bender> karma - creality: -1
[07:58:04] <janrinok> you are convincing me that we have found the cause of the problem
[07:58:35] <chromas> The Chinese?
[07:58:56] <janrinok> well, them as well, particularly if they made any part of your printer
[07:59:58] <janrinok> I've got to go do a bit of shopping.... back in a while
[08:00:06] <chromas> g'day
[08:00:32] <janrinok> which is exactly how this conversation started....
[08:00:40] <chromas> When I become president, I'll replace all forms of capital punishment with a ride on a Chinese escalator. That'll set 'em straight

[08:38:03] <SoyCowAnthrax> How do I delete my account?
[08:40:03] <janrinok> the same way you didn't delete SoyCow1448
[08:57:22] <SoyCowAnthrax> You are an arbitray tyrant, janrinok! I worship at your feet! I know who you are. You are the real aristarchus. This is the only theory that makes sense. You always wanted to destroy SN, and now you have done it.
[08:58:47] <janrinok> lol
[08:59:05] <janrinok> SN is doing just fine, thank you.
[09:06:50] <SoyCowAnthrax> Well , if having janrinok, FatPhil, and Runsaway share their latest adventures with French, Fire, and Mac is a healthy SN, maybe. But the Soylentils grow uneasy, and twisted in their paddocks. Chickens will come home to roost.
[09:07:58] <janrinok> you are confusing IRC with the site
[09:08:28] <janrinok> IRC is still suffering from idiots such as yourself. The site is not.
[09:12:13] <SoyCowAnthrax> Idiots such as yourself, Sir! You are the arsehole behind the dearth of discussion, the poverty of decent front page articles. And mostly, it is the British snobbery, invisible to Brits, and recent Prime Ministers. That is what has destroyed SN.
[09:12:49] <janrinok> I will let the Prime Minister know of your discontent

[09:22:33] <SoyCowAnthrax> But will you tell him of the Glorious Sun of York, that has made clear our discount tent? https://www.pinterest.com Abyss that is Runaway, stares back upon himself. Dark. Arkansas Dark.
[09:22:34] <systemd> ^ 03Now is the winter of our discount tent.
[09:24:46] <SoyCowAnthrax> Besides, janrinok, as an expat, a tratorious Brexiteer, do you even have a MP? Or do you have to vote with the French Foreign Legion of war criminals and stateless soldiers?
[09:38:13] <SoyCowAnthrax> Or are you among the wild geese? Oh, wait, they were Irish, no?
[09:43:26] <SoyCowAnthrax> SoylentNews has failed, because it abandoned its Prime Directive: Free Speech. The decision to allow spam mods of decrepid racist shit had no effect, other than driving away TMB, But the directed attack on aristarchus, followed by the contriived charges against him, sealed the fate of this site. Single digit comments on the front page. This is death for a news aggregation site.
[09:46:09] <SoyCowAnthrax> Not to mention, Galway Scottish Dancing Corals on the front page? Tigers? In Africa? (Monty Python, Meaning of LIfe, Killing Others section.)
[09:46:45] <janrinok> TMB left before anything you are claiming drove him away. You have free speech. You are enjoying it now. You can express yourself on the site. Nobody has stopped you from saying anything.
[09:47:13] <janrinok> You still have an active account - use it.
[09:50:32] <SoyCowAnthrax> You deleted my account, you tyrannical British Pud! You know why TMB left, and why Eth and Runaway stayed. You are being disingenous, janrinok!
[09:53:26] <janrinok> which one of your accounts? You still have an active account.
[09:55:07] <SoyCowAnthrax> No, I do not. Care to suggest what my account that is active might be? You vomitous mass of sputum!
[09:56:07] <janrinok> If you cannot manage your own accounts why should that be my fault?
[09:57:08] <SoyCowAnthrax> When all new accounts are summarily blocked, as being potential blocked accounts, well, yes, it is your fault, you censoring janrinok.
[09:58:39] <janrinok> If you already have an account then the other accounts are sock-puppets. You have simply lost track of your accounts.
[10:00:52] <SoyCowAnthrax> Ah, the true nature of the janrinok admin comes to light. He actually has no idea who is who, and has just adopted a general paranoid attitude, without any actual knowledge.
[10:17:50] <SoyCowAnthrax> The man is insane.
[10:22:29] <SoyCowAnthrax> What active account do I have, you blimey bastard, based on, what, the hash or my IP address? Can you answer the question, janrinok? Or are you full of it?

[10:26:56] <FatPhil> Easy - you list your sock-puppets, and we'll tell you if they're banned or not. The one we say "not banned" to is your active account. For about 60 seconds.
[10:31:03] <janrinok> It is not based on hashes. When you create an account you haven't got a hash! Other people have successfully joined over the last few months. It is only you that has a problem.
[10:32:54] <SoyCowAnthrax> I have no sockpuppets, and no account. You people are obsessed with what you imagine to the the case.
[10:33:26] <SoyCowAnthrax> To *be* the case.
[10:33:39] <janrinok> if you have no account - why did you start this conversation asking how to close your account. Now, run along and play with the other children....
[10:34:22] <janrinok> <SoyCowAnthrax> How do I delete my account?
[10:34:34] <SoyCowAnthrax> Such a literalist pansy.
[10:34:41] <janrinok> such a prat
