[08:16:33] <FatPhil> looks like the fire may have started next door, but claiming on their insurance would have to go via a court case, and could take years :(
[08:17:06] <janrinok> not good. What is the building next door?
[08:17:56] <FatPhil> flats for rich people
[08:18:58] <FatPhil> very recently renovated, commanding *way* higher price/m2 than in our building. they even have a gym in their basement.
[08:19:45] <janrinok> but doesn't that imply that they will want this settling quickly? And if the insurance accepts the claims for them then you have a strong case, don't you?
[08:20:27] <FatPhil> the strength of the case depends on what the "expert" writes. All I presently have is the chinese whispers version.
[08:21:30] <janrinok> Understood. But they will want their expensive appartments fixed or their money back presumably. I could be wrong - this isn't an area in which I have any relevant experience.
[08:22:27] <FatPhil> I think they sold all the flats, so there's nothing that has an actual market value presently. I presume only one plot in their building was affected too. We don't have a view into their side.
[08:22:49] <FatPhil> at times like this, having a drone would be very useful.
[08:22:51] <janrinok> pity on both counts
[08:23:42] <janrinok> Did the fire inspectors say any more to you?
[08:24:28] <FatPhil> as I say, it's multilingual chinese whispers presently. I presume a detailed email will be sent out later today.
[08:24:56] <janrinok> OK - good luck with that when it eventually arrives
[08:26:02] <janrinok> I know what the office was used for but can you find a short term solution so that the current situation doesn't impeded the business unnecessarily?
[08:26:11] <janrinok> impede*
[08:26:54] <janrinok> I am assuming that the bar etc are still up and running?
[08:27:46] <chromas> If nobody's living there then you can just walk in and Czech it out
[08:27:48] <FatPhil> I'm not sure there's a bar any more in that building. They come and go. I think there might be a cafe.
[08:28:09] <janrinok> so you have just lost the office?
[08:28:29] <FatPhil> the only thing that's been lost is an unoccupied attic
[08:28:30] <janrinok> .... part of which (the IT) you seem to have recovered
[08:28:58] <FatPhil> our quarter of the building is unharmed. all we lost was electricity for a while.
[08:29:11] <janrinok> Does that leave the lower floors prone to rain damage and would that impact you too?
[08:29:34] <FatPhil> it would do, yes, and it's rainy season, soon to be snowy
[08:30:30] <janrinok> my bad, for some reason I imagined that the office was above your bar/restaurant. Don't know why I had that impression.
[08:31:27] <FatPhil> our flat's above 3 bars (although it looks like only one or two are open post-covid)
[08:31:39] <FatPhil> that's the one I complain about
[08:31:47] <chromas> Hm, so they sell off their flats, mysterious fire, get insurance to pay for renovation, ??? profit
[08:31:58] <janrinok> sounds like you picked a nice piece of real estate though.... :)
[08:32:36] <FatPhil> there were clothes and tourist tat shops when be bought it.
[08:33:33] <FatPhil> idiot council "cleaned up" another noisy part of town 100m away, and magically, lots of new nightclubs appeared down our street within 6 months - who could ever possibly have imagined that happening.
[08:38:30] <FatPhil> this is the car parked below the section of building that was on fire: http://theanna.org alas the g/f used a potato to take the photo.
[08:38:47] <FatPhil> you can't see the crater in the windshield, for example.
[08:40:12] <janrinok> I can make it out. He won't park there again. That is quite a bit of tile damage but the car looks repairable.
[08:40:59] <janrinok> I only hope he has a decent insurance policy
[08:49:40] <FatPhil> echo 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy' | tr $(cat /dev/urandom | tr -dc '[:alpha:]' | fold -w 8 | head -2)
[08:51:27] <FatPhil> I can't believe we don't know anyone who knows anyone with a drone. I'd love to get a bird's eye view of the area
[08:52:41] * FatPhil apologises for UUoC above
[08:54:49] <janrinok> what is it supposed to do - it doesn't seem to do much on my machine
[09:01:23] <FatPhil> it creates a random tr command line, so mangles the echoed text.
[09:02:12] <FatPhil> paa work Ond no paOy mOkes JOck O duaa boy
[09:02:42] <FatPhil> All Tora and no play maaes Jaca a dell boy
[09:02:53] <FatPhil> etc.

[09:11:28] <FatPhil> ur random numbers suck
[09:11:40] <BournPhil> Seems Runaway is going all Murder-Death-Kill of schoolchildren in the School Shooting of the Day jounral thread. Someone ought to talk to that boy.
[09:11:58] <FatPhil> azuma - quick, the meds!
[09:15:02] <BournPhil> All I have is this apple-flavored horse de-wormer.
[10:20:52] <chromas> I prefer the peanus butter
[10:21:23] <FatPhil> pee-anus butter - waaaat!?!?!?

[11:24:50] <FatPhil> So, given that China's one of our biggest export markets, should the brewpub make a honey beer with the name "Beer of Very Little Grain"? (https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/129425-for-i-am-a-bear-of-very-little-brain-and if you don't get the reference)
[11:24:52] <systemd> ^ 03A quote from The World of Winnie-the-Pooh
[11:35:34] <janrinok> Why not - I don't think that _they_ will get the reference but as long as they buy your beer you don't care!
