[13:16:58] <Runaway1956> status
[13:17:36] <requerdanos> I assume that's some sort of abbreviated greeting. Hi!
[13:21:30] <Runaway1956> G'morning requerdanos
[13:21:41] <Runaway1956> no, I typed in the wrong window, lol
[13:22:01] <requerdanos> that would have perhaps been my second assumption.
[13:22:39] <Runaway1956> I blame the time of day, I just fell out of bed
[13:24:57] <requerdanos> I am not mentally at my freshest, currently fighting off a case of covid
[13:25:51] <Runaway1956> Ouch - that sucks
[13:26:41] <Runaway1956> Don't feel too lonely, we are having a scare at the moment
[13:26:57] <requerdanos> hope it's a false alarm
[13:27:07] <Runaway1956> two of the clients (I call them patients) that my wife works with have covid
[13:31:07] <Runaway1956> I definitely have to clean my computer, it shut down middle of the night due to high temp
[13:32:00] <requerdanos> dust and pet hair can be great insulators
[13:40:49] <lld> a friend of mind tested positive, then negative a week later and then positive again after another week
[13:40:52] <lld> :)
[13:41:02] <lld> s/mind/mine/

[14:29:55] <lld> or they recovered, and then immediately got it again
[14:30:01] <lld> regardless, they are OK
[14:30:21] <lld> so the whole excercise is entirely masturbatory

[19:35:18] <Runaway1956> It's really summertime now - even the weeds in the garden are dying
[19:36:54] <Runaway1956> I really should invest in some drip watering hoses - had some years ago, when the kids were little, but they dragged them all over hell's half acre
[19:37:18] <Runaway1956> Find bits and pieces of them today, which is not good for anything at all
[19:40:54] <Pyro_MX> We've been lucky over here - lots of very very hot days, but a major rainy day every now and then. Enough to make the grass go yellow on some spots, but not completely dry either.
[19:41:43] <Runaway1956> In the past two weeks, we've had one very brief little thunderstorm, rainfall measured in hundredths of an inch
[19:42:10] * Pyro_MX Looks at his metric measuring tape
[19:42:14] <Runaway1956> Thursday, we're supposed to see "isolated thunderstorms" which could mean an inch, or mean nothing
[19:42:39] <Runaway1956> Metric tape would say "slightly moistened the dust"
[19:45:14] <Pyro_MX> Hahaha yeah! Between 0 and 2.5CM.
[19:46:43] <Pyro_MX> Last year the weather was very ideal here for dangerous tree-clipping-near-power-lines work.
[19:47:13] <Runaway1956> Dry? My son is doing that kind of work right now
[19:47:48] <Runaway1956> No worries about driving into mud pits, near zero chance of getting an arc from the power lines
[19:48:13] <Runaway1956> Of course, there is never a real zero chance - stuff happens
[19:48:25] <Pyro_MX> More like a very rainy spring, lots of tree growth with branches overlapping the power lines.
[19:48:42] <Runaway1956> Oh, I see what you mean - you had lots of work
[19:49:26] <Pyro_MX> I didn't perform the work myself - this kind of work is usually carried out by the power company given the land under the tree +/- a couple of meters area is owned by them.
[19:49:46] <Pyro_MX> Mainly to prevent jackasses wanting to get BBQed by accident on the 14000 volt lines.
[19:50:31] <Runaway1956> You're talking about what we call "hi lines"
[19:51:11] <Runaway1956> My son is working on local distribution lines, the highest voltage he is likely to see is 1000 volts, and not a lot of that
[19:51:38] -!- AzumaHazuki has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[19:52:02] <Runaway1956> Some 880 volt, quite a lot of 440, much much more 220 and 110 volt
[19:52:03] <Pyro_MX> Oh yeah not quite the same amount of voltage there.
[19:52:54] -!- AzumaHazuki [AzumaHazuki!~hazuki@the.end.of.time] has joined #soylent
[19:52:54] <Runaway1956> As for the hi lines, we had an electric company employee zapped nearby a few years ago
[19:53:24] <Runaway1956> They stopped the truck, he got out to urinate on a bush, when he walked back to the truck, the hi line zapped him.
[19:53:50] <Pyro_MX> Your lines are buried, then?
[19:54:19] <Runaway1956> No, hi lines are up about - ohhhhh - near fifty feet I guess, I've never actually measured them
[19:54:59] -!- senpie [senpie!~senpie@178.160.ntr.vs] has joined #soylent
[19:55:21] <Pyro_MX> The truck had lifted a cabin or something?
[19:55:24] <Runaway1956> I can say that they are higher than almost all the trees in the forest, we don't have many exceeding 50 feet
[19:55:52] <Pyro_MX> Oh okay the line went into contact with something that was near the worker and got zapped in the process
[19:55:56] <Runaway1956> Nope, it was just a truck, no boom or anything
[19:55:59] -!- AzumaHazuki has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[19:56:08] <Pyro_MX> Wow.
[19:56:23] <Runaway1956> Just out of the blue it arced to ground, and he was the most convenient ground
[19:56:30] <Runaway1956> no one ever had an explanation for it
[19:56:44] -!- AzumaHazuki [AzumaHazuki!~hazuki@the.end.of.time] has joined #soylent
[20:02:38] <Pyro_MX> In any case, caution is always recommended when working around these - I do hope your son enjoys a safe career :)
[20:03:01] <Runaway1956> Hope so too, thanks!
[20:05:16] <Pyro_MX> Could be worse, though - like working on a Star Trek ship with exploding computer monitors, exploding EPS conduits...
[20:05:28] <Pyro_MX> And ROCKS.
