[05:46:18] <SoyCow7762> Turns out we just might be number one hundred-eleven. Or Even a number much greater in magnitude.
[05:46:38] <SoyCow7762> Or wait, is that one hundred-ten or one-hundred ten
[05:47:15] <SoyCow7762> because money-counting Yhoodies know it ain't one-hundred-ten

[13:51:18] <Ingar> the Dune movie from 1984 sucks
[13:51:34] <Ingar> better watch the miniseries
[13:51:51] <Ingar> or that new one, I heard it's quite good, haven't seen it though
[13:53:08] <Ingar> (well, "sucks" with some salt. imho, it wasn't a bad movie on its own)
[13:53:23] <Ingar> but the weirding modules are unforgivable :D
[13:54:22] <FatPhil> I was forewarned about the 1984 one, I didn't go in cold.
[13:55:54] <Ingar> FatPhil: maybe you're a Sting fan? ;)
[13:58:06] <FatPhil> The loincloth was a travesty! we want Sting's glistening junk!
[13:58:14] <FatPhil> Other opinions are available
[15:21:19] <Teckla> Another Windows update, and Hyper-V broken... again.
[15:55:51] <FatPhil> Apparently the new Dune is worth seeing, quite faithful to the sources.
[16:07:58] <boru> Really? Might give it a watch, then.
[16:08:21] <boru> I usually give scifi reboots a wide berth.
[16:08:56] <boru> Didn't they try to make a miniseries of Childhood's End fairly recently?
[16:10:34] <boru> Has it had the hollywood treatment?
[16:31:51] -!- AzumaHazuki [AzumaHazuki!~hazuki@the.end.of.time] has joined #soylent
[16:35:13] <FatPhil> boru: these are just foaf facts, not personal recommendation. All I know is that the new one will be better than the 1984 one.
[16:35:19] -!- inky has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
[16:41:46] <boru> Well, I suppose it'd cost nothing other than time to find out. Though IME, these things rarely translate well to the screen. I think everyone has their own image of the characters and scenes in their mind after reading the books, and are disapppointed by some neophyte's vision of the books.
[16:44:57] <boru> I've found that things translate in the direction of screen to book far better.
[16:47:09] <boru> I re-read Roadside Picnic recently, which lead me to reading the Metro books again, which are based on the Tarkovsky film Stalker which in turn is inspired by Roadside Picnic. The Strugatsky brothers write good scifi, albeit coloured by the times they were written in.

[17:01:25] <FatPhil> I live just round the corner from "Stalker's Passage" here in Tallinn, a fair bit was filmed here. I got a lot of Tarkovskyisms from /Dune/ last night.
[17:04:39] <boru> Oh yeah?

[18:37:28] <bacteria> nice, FatPhil :)
[18:37:57] <bacteria> stalker is a pretty spooky movie, i watched it when i was mid-teens :)
[19:07:15] <FatPhil> I'm no fan of Tarkovsky, not that I've seen a huge number of his films. I'd say Solaris was spookier, as the unknown is in the room with you more of the time, rather than just out there somewhere.
[19:17:37] <chromas> The Johnnie Depp Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is supposedly more accurate to the book than the Gene Wilder one. I wouldn't call it a better movie tho
[19:30:50] <FatPhil> I don't think I saw the Depp one. I didn't like the extra Charlie's-naughty scene they added to the Wilder one, IIRC. Been a long time though since I've seen it.

[20:42:33] <FatPhil> TIL superglue was at least proposed as a method for female sterilisation (dunno if ever used, though).

[22:58:48] <tedious> Has anybody heard anything about airports shutting down due to vaccine mandate walk outs?

[23:10:28] <systemd> ^ 03Looking to Cash In on Nostalgia, God to Release Sequel to New Testament
[23:10:57] <tedious> It looks like some jacksonville airport controllers walked out over the mandate and that is messing up all of southwest airlines.
[23:11:19] <tedious> And of course the regular news outlets are denying it with some sketchy denial emails.
[23:11:41] <tedious> If you read between the lines it looks like a sick-out.
[23:12:45] <tedious> Like everything they say is a denial is denying the wrong thing.
[23:13:35] <tedious> Looks like the faa had to admit that they did have a staffing problem at jax airport and that they had to shut it down to avoid being "operationally compromised".

[23:18:49] <tedious> :)
[23:19:29] <tedious> Did I show you the video of the doctor reading off his patient's blood panel results?
[23:21:25] <tedious> I haven't been paying much attention to irc lately and I'm all discombobulated.

[23:27:17] <tedious> Well anyway I'm going to try to learn more about these immune system markers and see how much it costs to get a blood panel just to have a baseline while I'm feeling good.
[23:27:54] <tedious> Thanks again for the good advice about avoiding inflamation and staying healthy.
[23:28:07] <tedious> And enjoy your day off. :)

[23:34:00] <AzumaHazuki> tedious, i've had three covid shots and i feel fine. i've actually been feeling better after the third one, minus the 18-24 hours after it
[23:34:31] <AzumaHazuki> if that video were true i should be dead from a simple cold. i should have no immune system left and be clotted from toes to brainstem
[23:40:12] <tedious> That's good to hear.
[23:40:23] <tedious> Which parts gave it away?

[23:54:28] <SoyCow8006> You know, those Globo-Commies are always trying to push collectivism, and they just might get it. By attacking parents, they will push those parents to home school, maybe even as neighborhood collectives, now that the YHoo-dominated teachers' unions are pushing masks/vaccines and critical race theory on KIDS.
