[09:59:05] <Runaway1956> Whoa! Been screwing around with my VMs, and watched a vidya promising to improve performance
[09:59:16] <Runaway1956> https://www.youtube.com
[09:59:18] <systemd> ^ 03VMWare Workstation settings for the best performance
[09:59:42] <Runaway1956> It works! Faster boot time in the VMs, and performance improves as well.
[10:00:15] <Runaway1956> I would never have gone to all the trouble he went to, to figure it out, but I'm happy to use the knowledge he shared.
[10:00:53] <Runaway1956> 2 processors, 3 cores, for six cores total
[12:50:07] <Bytram> Runaway1956: I was wondering what was going on! Your F@H productivity had a nice uptick for a few days, but the past two days seem to have taken a hit!

[12:50:44] <Runaway1956> Oh that has little to do with my virtual machines
[12:50:57] <Runaway1956> I'm just not getting high value work units anymore
[12:51:24] <Bytram> your VMs don't fold?
[12:51:55] <Runaway1956> Oh no, VMs are less efficient than real hardware
[12:52:21] <Runaway1956> besides which, the main GPU is on the Windows machine - Dear Wife's machine.
[12:54:29] <Bytram> certainly, but I thought I saw you talk here about changing VMs and getting a real boost... I must have conflated things.
[12:55:12] <Runaway1956> Mmmm - maybe so - I've improved the performance of the VMs but that is all separate from folding
[12:55:49] <Bytram> got it. my confusion!
[12:55:57] <Runaway1956> Chromas seemed to be at least half interested in my experiments with VMs so I kinda keeping him updated with those experiments
[13:31:34] <FatPhil> Processors are like sex. Virtual's OK, but the real thing's better.
[13:37:02] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Why OpenAI’s Codex Won’t Replace Coders - https://sylnt.us
[13:41:55] <Bytram> Runaway1956: In the early 1980s, I worked at IBM and tested performance upgrades to the OS. Specifically. testing the code implementation looking for bugs. Along with a whole bunch of specifications at several levels of details. Not a bad gig for a guy fresh out of college! At one point or another, I probably read 20% of the the OS's code. In assembler.
[14:02:25] <FatPhil> wow - never seen this numeric format before: abcdefgh being rendered "a,bc,de,fgh" rather than the more usual "ab,cde, fgh". Thought it was a typo, but it's being used everywhere in the paper I'm reading.
[14:04:02] <Bytram> FatPhil: I've seen it before. I think it is commonly used in India.
[14:08:31] <FatPhil> Bingo!
[14:08:56] <Bytram> was his name-o

[21:15:43] <AzumaHazuki> today's been good :) mom and i got covid boosters (she's old enough, i work in healthcare), and i got 8 cute tops and a pair of PJs, all 100% cotton, for $45 at Goodwill
[21:26:49] <FatPhil> but what if the nanobots from the old injections have formed a gang, and don't want new nanobots on their turf?
[21:31:48] <FatPhil> BBC news is really really really good at communicating truthy facts...
[21:31:56] <FatPhil> Headline: "Sarkozy: Ex-French president gets jail sentence over campaign funding"
[21:32:12] <FatPhil> Body: "He will not be jailed, however, and can serve his sentence at home with an electronic bracelet, the court ruled."
[21:33:59] <Teckla> AzumaHazuki: Which vax did you get?
[21:34:16] <Teckla> My wife (also in health care) is due for her first booster... can she just go anywhere to get it?
[21:34:17] <AzumaHazuki> Pfizer, same as the first two. they wouldn't let me mix
[21:34:29] <Teckla> AzumaHazuki: Ah, good to know that it has to be the same one. Thanks.
[21:34:53] <Teckla> I suppose, just bring your vax card to prove your second vax is at least 6 months past?
[21:34:57] <AzumaHazuki> yes
[21:35:01] <Teckla> Thanks AzumaHazuki :)

[21:35:17] * AzumaHazuki is also drinking pine-needle tea to keep her blood from clotting, since the end result of this is production of spike protein and this has been shown to have direct thrombotic effects
[21:35:18] <Teckla> I knew it was one of those!
[21:35:29] <Teckla> AzumaHazuki: Ah, how interesting.
[21:35:43] <Teckla> I recently(-ish) started taking turmeric; it's done wonder for the arthritis in my hands.
[21:35:54] <Teckla> s/wonder/wonders/
[21:35:54] <SedBot> <Teckla> I recently(-ish) started taking turmeric; it's done wonders for the arthritis in my hands.
[21:35:57] <AzumaHazuki> if you aren't on blood thinners or at risk of stroke or taking anything that otherwise messes with your blood's clotting time, ginger tea might be a good idea. turmeric always is
[21:36:20] <AzumaHazuki> turmeric needs to be combined with black pepper to work, though, since the piperine inhibits a liver enzyme that breaks curcuminoids down
[21:36:35] <Teckla> I, ah, oh. Hmmm.
[21:36:43] <Teckla> I wonder if the turmeric supplement I take already has it. I should check.
[21:36:59] <Teckla> I can state definitively, though, that is works amazingly well. I went form my hands hurting all the time, to almost never.
[21:38:35] <Teckla> Ah, yes, it does indeed include black pepper. Kirkland brand. :)
