[19:18:33] <Runaway1956> With all the peudo-science in our court system, pseudo-science must be a goot thing
[19:18:33] <boru> But on a more serious point, I was reading an article about the coral reefs in the Philipines being really destroyed by dumped masks. It was sad to see.
[19:19:05] <boru> A lot of islands in Indonesia get forcefully shipped rubbish from other countries, and they're too poor to send it back.

[19:20:07] * Runaway1956 doesn't believe in AIDS
[19:20:49] <FatPhil> I Think you'll find that lefties got behind the "irresponsible litter disposal is bad" principle decades ago.
[19:21:13] <boru> Lots of people have bonkers ideas and opinions, alas, the conspiracy theorist accusation has largely been weaponised to silence dissidents over the last 50 years.
[19:21:36] <Runaway1956> First, we had Pete Buttplug, now it's Marica Fudge. Next?
[19:21:54] <boru> And that is something I strongly agree with. It has the Streisand effect for me; when I hear someone making the accusation, it usually piques my interest and I'll go and make up my own mind about it.
[19:21:57] <Runaway1956> s /Marica/Marcia/
[19:23:34] <boru> A good example was people making accusations about Tuskeegee, or Operation Mockingbird, or US defence technology, or mass surveilance by companies like facebook and google. Low and behold, decades later, they turned out to not be conspiracy theories at all.
[19:24:55] <boru> Long story short, saying a website is bad because the founder has some bonkers ideas is a bit disingenuous.

[19:31:36] <boru> I'm fond of ale. It used to be stout only for me, when I drank beer, as I'm largely a whiskey drinker. But that said, since moving here to Bavaria, I've grown accustomed to the local breweries in the Summer.

[23:21:47] <Bytram> It's one thing when the bear is uphill from you. It's quite another when you're on the ski slope, it's down-slope from you. How ya gonna get by? Or do you think you can run uphill wearing a pair of skis?
[23:22:17] <chromas> Slide through the five-hole
[23:22:29] <Bytram> huh?
[23:22:44] <chromas> ski downhill and go between the legs
[23:22:57] <isocelated> ...like skifree?
[23:23:16] <chromas> exactly
[23:23:19] <Bytram> not sure how... can you demonstrate?
[23:23:32] <chromas> there aren't any slopes here
[23:23:37] <chromas> oh wait, can I still say that?

[23:24:27] <SedBot> <Bytram> <chromas> oh weight can I still say that?
[23:25:11] <Bytram> that was more fun coming up with the regex than any joke value it may have had
[23:25:44] <Bytram> but seriously, watch the video and ask yourself what YOU would do?
[23:26:24] <Bytram> Hint: the trails are not narrow, but they are not that wide, either!
[23:26:44] <chromas> would you say they're...just right?
[23:27:52] <chromas> looks like the bear is uphill
[23:29:08] <Bytram> keep watching
[23:29:36] <chromas> where's muh sound?
[23:29:50] <Bytram> hunter2
[23:30:32] <chromas> so the camera was downhill from the bear, then stopped and stood around, then went back to the other side of the bear
[23:31:15] <chromas> Also forgot to boop the snoot
[23:32:43] <Bytram> As a teen, my dad and his buddy shot a black bear. Somehow, my dad got the pelt and has a bear rug made of it. The claws were a 1.3-2" long. Just one swipe, backed by those huge shoulders... buh bye!
[23:33:16] <chromas> cuddly doggos
[23:34:28] <Bytram> Laid out flat, it pretty much completely covered a full-size bed with paws hanging over the edges.
[23:35:09] <Bytram> incisors were a good inch or so long, too.
[23:38:46] <Bytram> Heard a story of a guy who shot a bear. Was gutting it out. bear twitched. Swiped the guy right across his chest. So you're out in the middle of nowhere, bleeding heavily. Not a good scene, by any means. ISTR he was able to get out of the woods and get help, but a scary scene, that's for sure!
