[00:05:34] <Bytram> anybody here have mod points? I think his is spam: https://soylentnews.org
[00:05:35] <systemd> ^ 03SoylentNews Comments | Trump Signs $900 Billion Pandemic Relief Bill ( https://soylentnews.org )
[00:11:25] -!- boxzy has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[00:17:38] <requerdanos> no takers?
[00:19:00] <Bytram> apparently not. then again, I should get my mod points back within 45 minutes or so. it can wait.
[00:19:19] <Bytram> thanks for asking!
[00:20:27] <requerdanos> if you change your mind I just got 10 points
[00:21:00] <Bytram> heh, me too!
[00:22:30] <Bytram> oh, that's right. Mod points are scheduled to start getting doled out at 00:10 UTC.
[00:32:46] <FatPhil> A couple of months ago, I falsely announced that I had completed my Brobdignagian Beer Challenge - 12 beers from each of 12 breweries in 12 different countries.
[00:32:59] <FatPhil> Tonight, I have completed it, for reals!
[00:34:50] <FatPhil> I did have quite a backlog, and I'm a large hunk of the way to 13x13x13, the Baker's Brobdignagian Beer Challenge. Only Germany is letting me down...
[00:38:13] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - The Turing Test is Obsolete. AI Needs a New Benchmark - https://sylnt.us - asimov's-three-laws
[00:38:48] <halibut> Does it count if you take 1 mL from each of 1,728 beers (12 from each of 12 breweries in each of 12 countries), mix that into a single ~0.5 gal. beverage, and drink that?
[00:39:29] <halibut> ... or does each entry need to be some more sustantial minimum size?
[00:39:54] <FatPhil> I drink about >2:1 relative to the g/f, so most things I have "on my own" would be 220+ml of beer, which is enough to give a pretty good review.
[00:40:44] <FatPhil> I don't like doing reviews from <100ml pours, that's a bit of a joke. HOwever, I probably have several thousand of them.
[00:41:42] <FatPhil> I could of course leave 1ml to create a festival special megablend, but I don't reckon I'd manage 1728 in an evening.
[00:42:01] <halibut> 1,728 220 mL beers works out to almost exactly 100 gallons of beer.
[00:42:28] <FatPhil> I've seen idiots doing ~130 in a day, and at my most idiotic I've had ~80 50ml pours in a day.
[00:43:52] <FatPhil> It's taken ~15 years to achieve this, so there wasn't as much rush as one might expect.
[00:44:44] <FatPhil> I only conceived of the whole concept about 3 years ago, and when I checked my data, I was already at 11x11x11.
[00:44:52] <halibut> Quite the list. Is 50 mL roughly a ``shot'' of beer? Is that just a way to sample it to decide if you want to purchase?
[00:48:35] <FatPhil> That's the fairy story, trying to find the best beers, but in reality amongst the ultranerds it's nothing more than "trainspotting" - they'll never have them again.
[00:53:25] * FatPhil dives into the cellar, and pulls out an Ogham Willow, brewed ~2012, BB 2014, in order to demonstrate he was actually looking for the best of the best.
[00:54:20] <FatPhil> Brewery closed in 2016, was one of my favourite welsh breweries. :(
[00:54:25] <FatPhil> Fuck me, this is amazing.

[01:11:51] <FatPhil> n.w. /That's My Bush/ Ep.05
[01:12:04] <bacteria> true that, FatPhil, the first time i tried device's kid casual, we was like, i never have to buy another beer, and the next year it was piss, and every year after that
[01:13:48] <bacteria> https://bit.ly
[01:23:55] * AzumaHazuki just dropped a bunch of Spam mods on probably-not-APK and probably-not-APK's anonymous sockpuppet
[01:29:46] <FatPhil> bacteria: I've had 264 Cali beers (plus possible backlog) but never any Device.
[01:43:45] <bacteria> it's a sacramento thing
[01:44:10] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki: if I am looking at things correctly, they all look apropos to me. ty.
[01:44:38] <AzumaHazuki> that guy is fucking deranged. and he really has it in for barb hudson for whatever reason
[01:50:28] <Bytram> two different ipids had enough spam mods assessed against them that comment posting is now blocked from them.
[01:50:58] <Bytram> And... that's going to be my last official act this evening.
[01:51:07] <Bytram> Have a great night everybody!
[01:51:17] <requerdanos> peace :)
[01:58:29] <FatPhil> Not sure what needs to be done regarding spam mods for unhappy penes and ascii boobies. looks like junksplort, deserves spam mod, IMHO, and those looked like junksplort.
[01:58:49] <AzumaHazuki> uzzard flips his shit whenever someone spam mods something that isn't repetitive copypasta
[02:03:34] <FatPhil> I'm in trub then
[02:04:46] <FatPhil> a markov generator that churns out ever-changing shit is just as much spam as a copy pase.
[02:04:57] <AzumaHazuki> his enforcement is selective of course =P you don't call him out on his stupid bullshit anywhere near as much as I do so he's less inclined to enforce the rules
[02:05:59] <FatPhil> Nah, I just call him out on how pitifully naive he is from a political/economic viewpoint.
[02:09:55] <AzumaHazuki> well, please keep doing that. he needs someone to smack him down repeatedly, and apparently it needs to be someone with a Y chromosome
[02:35:52] <AzumaHazuki> okay, time for work. that weekend just evaporated, jeez

[13:24:25] <requerdanos> morning.
[13:26:37] <AzumaHazuki> o/
[13:27:14] <requerdanos> Hope work went well and that you get great sleep today zumi :)
[13:28:45] <AzumaHazuki> thanks...it went oddly fast actually. the other tech was worthless, but i still got her rounds done and an insane assload of unit dose returns in addition to my own duties
[13:30:14] <requerdanos> so work plus bonus adventure
[13:31:31] <AzumaHazuki> yup. also i may finally do more IV training after new year's. it's been stalled due to staff issues. i'm told my technique is good for a newbie and improving fast, but am not fast enough to handle this insane influx of corona patients
[13:32:04] <AzumaHazuki> no surprise there. every couple of hours the medical ICU needs like a dozen IVs, and some of them are really complex and time-consuming to make
[13:37:12] <requerdanos> perhaps practice makes speed as well as making perfect
[13:40:12] <AzumaHazuki> oh, definitely. but if someone is going to get really sick, hurt, or die horribly in a hospital it will be from an IV prep gone wrong or contaminated
[13:40:33] <AzumaHazuki> i would rather be slow and clean than fast and sloppy, as an unfortunate number of much more experiences techs in there are
[13:40:33] <requerdanos> do you practice on each other, or on the "easy" patients?
[13:41:30] <AzumaHazuki> the training consists of having a senior tech standing by to watch the newbie's technique and posture, to ensure that critical sites are not "shadowed" and that proper needles, syringes, etc are used
[13:42:07] <AzumaHazuki> some medicines, for example, come in glass ampules and you have to break the neck of the ampule to get at them. you NEED to use a special filter needle, else you fill the patient's bloodstream with tiny glass shards
[13:42:23] <requerdanos> sounds potentially unpleasant.
[13:43:13] <AzumaHazuki> great goddess, yes. i don't even want to imagine it
[13:44:20] <AzumaHazuki> airflow is paramount in there. you work in a compounding hood, which blows incredibly clean HEPA-filtered air at you from the back. critical sites (tops of open vials, bare needles, syringe hubs) have to be in this airflow at all times
[13:44:58] <AzumaHazuki> so you develop some very odd-looking motions and habits in there. it's perfect for a walking chunk of OCD like me

[15:44:50] <Bytram> absence of evidence vs evidence of absence
[15:45:08] <requerdanos> the pericles principle says "the dose makes the poison." not enough = not a poison
[15:55:22] <FatPhil> but there's tons of evidence of no increased risk anyway. everyone who has a pan is a datapoint.
[16:31:18] <Runaway1956_> There are two fresh spam submissions in the queue this morning
[16:33:01] <Runaway1956_> I'm with Bytram - absence of evidence is not evidence of anything
[16:33:26] <Runaway1956_> I've often wondered where all that non-stick coating went when I look at old pots and pans
[16:33:36] <Runaway1956_> apparently, we've eaten it
[16:37:40] <Runaway1956_> Jibsonad is the spam poster
[16:37:45] <FatPhil> you're not scientifically literate enough to know what "evidence" is though.

[23:20:04] <FatPhil> Titanic is the only movie that I've given a score to on IMDB without actually seeing the movie. I saw an extended review, and after I'd filled 3 buckets with vomit, I decided I didn't actually need to see the movie itself.
[23:25:42] <chromas> Was it Plinket's review?
