[01:07:27] <FatPhil> OK, we're officially toxic.
[01:07:36] <FatPhil> cases gone exponential
[01:07:52] <FatPhil> should I buy loo rolls?
[01:08:10] <chromas> only if you fight over them
[01:08:30] <FatPhil> (and by "exponential", I mean "multiplied by 5 to a scary level in a day")
[01:08:44] <FatPhil> OK, I'll fight you for them!
[01:09:11] <FatPhil> How the fuck does loo-roll tug-of war work across oceans?
[01:11:21] <chromas> Tugboats?
[01:23:25] <FatPhil> but it has to go 100km under the earth to be a straight line
[01:23:34] <FatPhil> maybe 1000km
[01:24:23] <chromas> It'll take a few extra rolls but we can just start at the surface and cut our way through
[01:24:33] <chromas> it'll be like a sea saw
[01:26:55] <FatPhil> Official news source has basically admitted that we're not in "case case case" mode, but "cluster cluster cluster" mode
[01:27:17] <FatPhil> next mode is boom, of course, and it typically takes 3 days to do that transition
[01:28:06] <FatPhil> I notice that your state is officially 0 cases still.

[02:37:58] * MrPlow smakes chromas upside the head with Macromedia Flash
[02:38:39] <pinchy> crates of lysol
[02:48:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> da hell for? if you need to lysol your house, you're already fucked.
[02:50:56] <TheMightyBuzzard> i mean, i went and bought a 32 roll pack the other day but i always do that. i'm lazy, hate shopping, and really hate running out of shit tickets.
[02:52:06] <AzumaHazuki> shit tickets, lol
[02:52:40] * AzumaHazuki made her own sanitizer, 2.5:1 ratio of 91% isopropyl to glycerin with 20gtts tea tree oil. works but smells like a drunk hippie farted

[02:58:10] <AzumaHazuki> couldn't find any faster than i could find 91% IPA
[02:58:19] <AzumaHazuki> wish i'd used lavender instead of tea tree though, ick

[02:58:27] boru` is now known as boru
[02:58:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> my shit's been miserable since day one of the corona panic. TR has germophobe tendencies but only in bloody stupid ways. like he'll eat pizza that's been sitting on the table for three days but wouldn't drink out of a liquor bottle after someone until i pointed out that it's bloody alcohol.
[02:59:33] <AzumaHazuki> needs to be >60% to kill this virus
[02:59:39] <TheMightyBuzzard> oh ya, pharmacy.
[03:00:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> bicardi 151 then. check.
[03:00:19] <TheMightyBuzzard> #yt why is the rum gone
[03:00:20] <MrPlow> https://www.youtube.com -- Why is the Rum Gone? - Remix
[03:00:24] <AzumaHazuki> i know i'm probably going to get the virus, not get too sick, and very likely end up passively responsible for killing some of my older customers ><
[03:00:33] <AzumaHazuki> because, of course, no benefits and no insurance until a year of work
[03:01:01] <AzumaHazuki> i've been washing and sanitizing and not-face-touching like mad
[03:02:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> better than there being nobody to fill drugs
[03:02:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> damn, now i want some rum
[03:02:55] <AzumaHazuki> i don't drink, but am seriously wondering if i should
[03:03:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> well you have before, yes?
[03:03:15] <AzumaHazuki> not for ages and ages. i don't like alcohol
[03:03:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> personally, i'd recommend pot. stoned idiots are less of a handful than drunk idiots.
[03:05:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> me, i like small amounts of alcohol. like one or two drinks in an evening if i feel like it and ain't currently dehydrated. that's not very often though cause i lurves me some coffee.
[03:06:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> rum when i'm feeling all H.L. Mencken
[03:06:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> think i'll take five and go visit captain morgan and the nicotine fairy
[03:06:57] <AzumaHazuki> bleh, i tried weed once and it made me all slow and stupid and also ate a 700+-calorie bag of chips all alone
[03:07:01] <AzumaHazuki> would not recommend
[03:13:19] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki: fwiw, I never tried pot (just the smell of it makes me retch!), but finishing off a 700+ calorie bag of chips? Now that's something I could prolly do without batting an eye. And, in case you were wondering, my BMI is ~20. Heck, I could *gain* 30 pounds and *still* be in the "normal" weight category for my height.
[03:14:01] <AzumaHazuki> i couldn't. i'm 5'10" and 150lb, teetering back and forth over that line in either direction depending on, almost literally, the phase of the moon
[03:14:30] <AzumaHazuki> plus being stressed and likely low-key sick all the time is messing with my metabolism
[03:15:52] <Bytram> Then again, I was once put on some meds that cautioned it might "increase appetite." I couldn't imagine how that was possible, but it was! I gained 20 lbs. Felt like I was hauling around TWO 10-pound sacks of potatoes all day. Very hard to get up to sped and do much of anything when hauling all that extra weight around! It took a few months, but I'm back down to my usual weight and feel so much better for it!
[03:17:00] <AzumaHazuki> anything that messes with dopamine will do that
[03:18:00] <Bytram> In my early 20's my BMI was only about 18.4; had absolutely minimal body fat (couldn't float in a pool or pond!), had 6-pack abs, and thought nothing of going on a 15-20 mile bike ride on a saturday just to relax.
[03:18:31] <Bytram> and only needed to sleep about 5-6 hours per night.
[03:20:08] <Bytram> Now, many years later, I lack the extreme metabolism of my younger years, and much more understanding and tolerant, see far more shades of gray than things in black-and-white, and prolly a darn sight easier to get along with, too. At least I *hope* so!
[03:20:47] <Bytram> yeah, highly-stress all-the-time, that was me back then.
[03:20:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> i was in the same neighborhood until... hmm... roughly when the phantom menace came out. that's when i started admining an isp from a comfy chair instead of standing and repairing computers.
[03:21:12] <Bytram> I like things the way they are now, much better.
[03:22:01] <Bytram> Except, of course, the body doesn't bounce back anywhere near as quickly as it used to. I have not had a day without pain for the past 10 years, at least.
[03:22:20] <TheMightyBuzzard> they make those?
[03:22:26] <Bytram> That has prolly slowed me down some, too.
[03:22:48] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: make what?
[03:22:53] <TheMightyBuzzard> days without pain
[03:23:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> closest i've had in as long as i can remember is when i'm sick, hopped up on nyquil, and sleep all day.
[03:25:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> lot of it's self-inflicted though cause i ain't got the good sense to quit doing something just because it hurts.
[03:25:29] <Bytram> oh, don't ask me. To think when I was in college and my alarm clock went off, it was on a desk which was located under my bed which had been mounted on 2"x6"s to make more space in my tiny dorm. SO I would throw back the covers, roll/drop/leap off the bed and drop to the floor (from a dead sleep mind you), lamnd on my feet, and then spring up to hit the snooze button on my alarm clock.
[03:27:20] <TheMightyBuzzard> like swinging a sledge hammer until not just my hand and wrist are both hurting and numb but until i'm a solid cramp up past my elbow and go shove my arm in the drinks cooler ice for ten minutes
[03:27:45] <Bytram> Well, feeling pain when I ain't even doing anything -- that's a whole different kind of animal. With what you described is the awareness that if I just stopped doing that stuff I cold have some relief. For me, there is none in sight. It will prolly be with me for the rest of my life. And it is not getting any less painful, let's just put it that way.
[03:28:14] <TheMightyBuzzard> heh, yeah, got that too. i ain't no spring chicken either.
[03:28:42] <TheMightyBuzzard> anyone who makes it past 40 without some permanent aches and pains wasted their life
[03:29:01] <Bytram> heh, you ain't even reached late summer. Wait until you get closer to late autumn.
[03:30:14] <TheMightyBuzzard> bout half way through middle-aged. can't be bothered to math up how old i am other than past 40.
[03:30:36] <TheMightyBuzzard> oh, wait, easy year. be 45 this summer.
[03:30:52] <Bytram> Apparently ibuprofen can lead to a stroke, so I am off those. Now, 8-hour extended release acetaminophen seems to be the best I can do for now.
[03:31:08] <Bytram> like I said.
[03:31:40] <AzumaHazuki> ibuprofen is an NSAID and the entire family can cause cardiovascular issues
[03:31:43] <Bytram> take another 1/3 of your age and add that on to the end... and you'd be close to where I'm at.
[03:31:50] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, i got another 15 years till old
[03:32:08] <Bytram> yeh, I *am* there already.
[03:32:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> showoff
[03:32:32] <AzumaHazuki> NSAIDs inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX, hurr hurr hurr) 1 and 2. Aspirin's COX-1 inhibition is permanent, which shifts the overall balance of end products to anti-inflammatory. Other NSAIDs? Not so much.
[03:32:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> AzumaHazuki, get off my lawn!
[03:32:52] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki: yes, I am *VERY* aware about risk of kidney damage and carefully monitor my consumption.
[03:33:27] <AzumaHazuki> scary stuff. i only ever take tylenol and the occasional aspirin unless i'm having a seriously awful pain episode, then one 200mg ibu gets thrown in
[03:33:42] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki: wait aspirin is.. permanent? so why do I need to keep taking another dose?
[03:33:58] <AzumaHazuki> the stuff does regenerate :v
[03:34:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, aspirin is permanent, your blood isn't
[03:34:28] <Bytram> primarily for cardio -- blood thinning
[03:34:44] <AzumaHazuki> yup, it inhibits platelet aggregation for that reason
[03:34:47] <Bytram> he aspirin regenerates?
[03:34:53] <Bytram> the aspirin regenerates?
[03:34:55] <AzumaHazuki> no, the COX-1
[03:35:29] <AzumaHazuki> your body is always making it, it's just that aspirin will permanently inactivate any of what it contacts, while other NSAIDs are temporary
[03:35:32] <TheMightyBuzzard> aspirin hates me. i gotta get the "please don't kill my stomach" coated ones and even those i take quite sparingly
[03:36:04] <Bytram> Ohh, aspirin is like baking soda countering vinegar... works great and permanently, but the body keeps making more vinegar
[03:36:25] <AzumaHazuki> there really does not seem to be a perfect pain med :/ NSAIDs cause GI and CV issues, opioids we all know about, most muscle relaxers are anticholinergic as hell...
[03:36:32] <TheMightyBuzzard> switch those around on account of aspirin being acidic
[03:36:41] <Bytram> k
[03:36:56] <Bytram> but otherwise, a fair enough analogy?
[03:37:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> man, fuck opioids. i can't stand em. they react quite barfily with caffeine in my system and i'd rather hurt and be caffeinated.
[03:37:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, yar
[03:38:38] <Bytram> given my predisposition, I would have to be in some REALLY MAJOR PAIN before I could be persuaded to even consider trying an opioid of any kind.
[03:38:41] <AzumaHazuki> oh, fun tylenol fact: one of its metabolites looks almost exactly like anandamide, an endogenous cannabinoid
[03:39:17] <chromas> Yeah but it had a patent, right? so it was okay
[03:39:28] <Bytram> and... does that mean I could flunk a drug test?
[03:39:38] <AzumaHazuki> no, since it's an endocannabinoid
[03:39:49] <AzumaHazuki> doesn't look much like d9-THC
[03:40:03] <Bytram> oh good!
[03:41:49] <Bytram> Well, all. It's well past when I was hoping to get to bed. (Have been woken around 0500 the past two days 'cause a neighbor thinks that is a fine time for them to do their laundry; said machines being in a room adjacent to my apartment)
[03:42:07] <AzumaHazuki> uuuugh. get some rest
[03:42:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> drug test is a weird term. you'd think you'd need to take lots of drugs to pass just by the name.
[03:42:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> ~gnight Bytram
[03:42:24] * exec gaily drops a tin of privilege points on Bytram
[03:42:43] <AzumaHazuki> "do you have a drug problem?" "nope, i pretty much got it figured out. some go in your veins, some up you nose..."
[03:42:57] <TheMightyBuzzard> ed zackery
[03:43:22] <Bytram> it's not so much the noise, but when the front-loading washers start their spin dry... it gets the floor to vibrating as the center of gravity oscillates rapidly up and down.

[11:13:53] <FatPhil> If I had had anything in stocks, I'd have panic sold. But I didn't, because I'd also not have held them that long either. I've never believed the "to the moon" fairy story, and am risk averse, so the bubble just looked like a place I didn't want to be.

[12:12:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> FatPhil, by definitely hit bottom i mean it's risen enough off a trough to say with a fair degree of certainty that it's not a dead cat bounce or some such.
[12:13:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> if you wanna be really certain though, stop buying at the same price you started at.
[12:14:37] <TheMightyBuzzard> i'm pretty conservative in regards to markets when real money's involved. if i just wanna play and take risks i do it with toy money like BTC.
[12:15:51] <FatPhil> I manage my g/f's money super conservatively, and that's paying off. With my own money, I'm more of an idiot.
[12:17:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> buy like $100 worth of $cryptocurrency(ies) and play with that. it'll quell your gambling urge.

[12:20:34] <FatPhil> We're expecting several of the #3-#6 band of breweries to go titsup, and avoided their crowd funding runs like the plague. We're working on the principle that the top 2 can feed off the carcasses of the others.
[12:20:59] <FatPhil> Could all turn to nought, though, we accept that.
[12:23:19] <FatPhil> If I can find a trustworthy place I can buy BTC, I'll probably fling a few hundred euros in that direction when I'm convinced it's reached a bottom plateau.

[12:29:34] <FatPhil> I reckon that people like us who read a wide range of alternative news sources would have an unfair advantage in that marketplace - some of those bets were powered by nothing more than fairytales and wishful thinking.
[12:29:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> FatPhil, naw. the entire reason to play with $crypto is so you don't waste real money but get your gambling fix. think of it as an mmo not an investment.

[12:32:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> right but you'd spend bucks on an mmo (well, until they went all free to play) anyway.
[12:32:16] <FatPhil> With one exception. If I were to way more than two-bag, I could withdraw my initial amount plus some, and then just play for fun with the winnings.

[12:33:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> think of it as a leisure purchase of any kind then. put a fixed initial amount in with the intention of never doing anything with it except playing there, that way you're fine win or lose.
[12:37:53] <FatPhil> that would require mental hurdles that would be difficult for me, until, as I say, I'd made a clear big win, such that everything after that is gravy.
[12:37:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> i used to do that with quarters for pinball machines. i'd get $5 worth and play till they were gone. well, until it got to the point where i'd get $5, play as much as i wanted, and leave with $4.75 and a bunch of free balls still on the machine.
[12:39:47] <chromas> Could've sold your balls to the next kid to get your quarter back
