[16:13:41] * Bytram wanders off to take care of some errands. will be back in a few hours
[16:13:16] <Bytram> Anyway, break time. Thanks for the question!
[16:12:48] <Bytram> yeah, best as I can tell, we should just be sending out reminders... except for one other option was to create a new slashbox that would appear on the main page and would keep you apprised of when you last subscribed, how much was paid, and when the subscription was due to expire; could add a link/button that could then take you right to the already existing subscription page.
[16:10:22] <Bytram> for an automated subscription feature, about the best I could imagine is either a reminder (which we already to provide, currently 2 weeks ahead of time and then just after it expires) or we could automatically pop up something to automatically start up the subscrip renewal page... but at what time and what if you are not there or if....
[16:07:38] <Bytram> Oh, no doubt about that (on both counts, sadly!) Problem is, we have no way to perform a transaction on your behalf... we call their API and then you talk with them about how you are making a payment.. when that finishes, we then talk to them (again through the API) and learn the amount we are getting.
[16:05:23] <jman> Perhaps a feature suggestion for the Voluminous Freetime of whoever handles the subscription code. I have auto-draws with several sites, it's just handy.
[16:05:20] <Bytram> anyway, time for a break.
[16:05:09] * Bytram does almost no on-line transactions pertaining to things involving money; maybe a couple times a year?
[16:04:13] <Bytram> HTH!
[16:04:06] <Bytram> It is unusual, but -- if you would like -- I could reach out to them and inquire as to how they manage to do it.
[16:04:01] <jman> Think it does, but stopped using them a few years ago due to a payment dispute. No worries, will just stick with manual renewal. Thanks for looking!
[16:03:03] <Bytram> jman: Back to your question, we DO have two Soylentils who make monthly subscriptions, and both of them use paypal. I am not familiar with them, but maybe paypal, itself, offers a periodic payment mechanism?
[16:01:54] <jman> I just compiled PHP 7.4 and noticed something about tidy. Compiled it into my Mac but haven't played with it yet.
[16:01:22] <jman> That I'm familiar with. Have almost forgotten about a bash script I wrote to re-configure SPA 303's. Ultimately it hits the phone via curl.
[16:01:18] <Bytram> mine is mostly: wget > file and then use any of these grep awk sed sort uniq as needed. Occasionally get a helping hand to start things off using: HTML Tidy
[16:00:09] <Bytram> umm let me try that again.
[15:59:52] <Bytram> mine is mostly: wget | (grep|awk|sed|sort|uniq)+
[15:59:05] <jman> Not really. Most of my scripting is bash, python or php. Do manage some web stuff but haven't dug into DOM manipulation like I should.
[15:58:37] <jman> My favorite scraper is vim. ;)
[15:57:28] <Bytram> I actually wrote some code, local to my pc, to grab some stuff from the site and perform the calcs needed for me to update the subscription progress stuff.
[15:56:32] <Bytram> still looking!
[15:56:27] <Bytram> nod nod
[15:52:46] <jman> Thx! Current sub isn't up until June, was just wondering after reading the B'day post from the 02/17 stories digest.
[15:51:40] <Bytram> brb
[15:51:38] <Bytram> Besides, not just for you. If you are asking tis question, there's bound to be someone else wondering the same thing!
[15:50:53] <Bytram> jman: I am not aware of anything on our side for automatic subscriptions, but there are a couple soylentils who have subscriptions that seem to repeat every month... let me see if I can get you any more information!
[15:50:07] <jman> Just being lazy. Auto draws > brain power. ;)
[15:49:35] <Bytram> jman: That is an excellent question!
[15:49:04] <jman> Does SN have recurring subscriptions, or must one periodically revisit the subscribe page?
