[00:05:33] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - The Pirate Bay is Trialing High-Quality Video Streaming Links - https://sylnt.us - interesting-development
[00:08:48] <AzumaHazuki> okay, plov is in the slow steaming stage (1 of 2). smells absolutely freaking amazing
[00:09:26] * RandomFactor suspects his sub doesn't smell nearly as good
[00:11:14] <RandomFactor> Also, sharing is caring
[00:22:27] <RandomFactor> I took 1.4 MILLENIA off Fnord666's clock? "Fnord666 [351/2108] has challenged RandomFactor [296/432] and taken them in combat! 518904 days, 01:54:19 is removed from Fnord666's clock."
[00:23:00] <AzumaHazuki> the sub is way easier
[00:23:19] <AzumaHazuki> this, though, i can get 2-3 huge meals off of for fairly cheap. I estimate this cost about $4 or $5 to cook
[00:23:19] <SoyGuest10360> The patch to stop infinite (exponential) growth hasn't been pulled
[00:23:36] <AzumaHazuki> still a little high, but that's the price of meat mostly :/
[00:24:16] <SoyGuest10360> criminey, plov is the most terrible foodstuff ever. it's quite popular amongst the russian-speaking population here.
[00:24:49] <SoyGuest10360> the way it's influenced local paellas is terrible (it's made paellas terrible)
[00:25:24] <SoyGuest10360> fortunately there's a great peruvian restaurant (and chef) in town and he's not been influenced by the east.
[00:25:25] <RandomFactor> I make a somewhat random Nasi Goring, but it's tasty enough
[00:25:40] <RandomFactor> Haven't done it in a while tho
[00:26:25] <RandomFactor> goreng
[00:28:25] <SoyGuest10360> If I saw one in a mixed asian restaurant I might give that a try, as long as the slavic influence had been kept at bay.
[00:29:08] <SoyGuest10360> Yeah, I was gonna correct your typo.
[00:29:19] <SoyGuest10360> However, I was going to correct it to Nazi Goerring.
[00:30:17] <RandomFactor> AriSoyGuest10360
[00:32:46] <RandomFactor> Grandparents spent time in the Dutch East Indies around WWII era. Grandfather used to make it. I've never been able to duplicate what he did precisely though.
[00:33:34] <AzumaHazuki> i eat pretty much anything good. coming from a place populated mostly by south/southeast Chinese gives you a broad palate
[00:33:52] <AzumaHazuki> it's said of the people of Guangdong, "if it has two wings and is not an airplane, or four legs and it not a table, they will eat it."
[00:34:13] <AzumaHazuki> ...honestly, I think that's badass instead of insulting. it says thrift, creativity, and powerful digestion
[00:35:07] <RandomFactor> Yeah, I love trying new foods in general. Maybe i won't like it, but never know until you try
[00:35:48] <RandomFactor> You never know until you try - Jack Burton
[00:36:45] <Bytram> Don't get me wrong -- I like a good tasty meal once in a while -- but I'm more of a "Eat to live" kind of guy, rather than someone who "Lives to eat"
[00:38:38] <AzumaHazuki> well, me too, with the dieting and the intermittent fasting
[00:38:51] <RandomFactor> mostly too lazy and cheap to be much of an epicure
[00:39:11] <RandomFactor> fortunately my children are wealthy...
[00:39:12] <AzumaHazuki> it's like "okay I have 1800kcal and an 8 hour window to eat it in, which has to border before work and mid shift...how do i do this?"
[00:39:27] <Bytram> yuppers
[00:39:41] <AzumaHazuki> plus i'm all about making things as low-cost as possible while still being healthy and tasty
[00:39:50] <Bytram> still doing autophage?
[00:40:00] * Bytram hopes he remembered correctly
[00:40:04] <AzumaHazuki> yes, i fast 16-18 hours of the day
[00:40:27] <RandomFactor> I would get...cranky
[00:40:32] <AzumaHazuki> i do get cranky :v
[00:40:38] <AzumaHazuki> but lots of tea helps
[00:42:18] <Bytram> I normally go from dinner (sometime around 8-10pm) until 1-2pm (or so) before I have my next meal... is that long enough?
[00:42:18] <AzumaHazuki> that stint in the shelter shot me back up to just over 150lb...want to get back down to ~140
[00:42:42] <AzumaHazuki> iirc 13 hours is the onset and 16+ is best
[00:43:12] <Bytram> so, 8pm to noon would be 16 hours.
[00:43:48] <Bytram> Good to know. Thanks!
[00:43:49] <AzumaHazuki> yup. i do about 3:15 PM to about 8:15 AM the next day
[00:43:58] <RandomFactor> Are you allowed to bloat yourself at 8pm? Or does that defeat the purpose?
[00:44:19] <AzumaHazuki> eh...eating it all at once (OMAD) seems to work well for a lot of people
[00:44:27] <AzumaHazuki> i imagine at worst it would just slow you down a little
[00:44:29] * Bytram does not like feeling 'stuffed' -- lows me down to much
[00:44:40] <Bytram> *slows
[00:45:02] <Bytram> =g OMAD
[00:45:03] <systemd> https://www.goodhousekeeping.com - What Is the OMAD Diet? How Eating One Meal a Day Works for ...
[00:45:07] <AzumaHazuki> i usually split it about 40:60 between "before work" and "short 15 minute break a couple hours before end of shift"
[00:45:16] <Bytram> Huh? Oh!
[00:45:57] <RandomFactor> Seems like your stomach would inevitably shrink, reducing the one meal size also
[00:46:01] <Bytram> How long can that one meal last? Given enough courses, could prolly get that up to 2-3 hours!
[00:46:24] <Bytram> depends how much one eats during that one meal.
[00:47:06] <AzumaHazuki> OMAD is a little insane. I've done it by accident on cheat days just because that one cheat meal was so heavy but...ehhh...
[00:47:16] <Bytram> yep
[00:47:38] <Bytram> Two meals a day is pretty much my norm, most days.
[00:47:58] <AzumaHazuki> this stuff is especially hard to do when you do shift work and are poor. it takes some real ingenuity
[00:48:10] <Bytram> shiftwork--
[00:48:10] <Bender> karma - shiftwork: -1
[00:48:11] <AzumaHazuki> i know i don't get enough vegetables for example
[00:48:46] <RandomFactor> Breakfast 6:30a, Lunch 11:30, Dinner 6:00
[00:48:49] <Bytram> one would think veggies would be cheaper than other stuff, but does not seem to work out in practice.
[00:49:02] <RandomFactor> Assuming work doesn't randomize my lunch schedule because the feel like it
[00:49:42] <AzumaHazuki> Bytram: yeah, that drives me fucking nuts. the only stuff that's cheap is processed grain
[00:49:49] <Bytram> I take that back, depending on time of year I can get 10lbs of potatoes for anywhere from $3-5
[00:50:05] <AzumaHazuki> potatoes aren't a vegetable, really...not nutritionall
[00:50:13] <Bytram> vitamin c
[00:50:45] <AzumaHazuki> well...plov here is full of carrots and onions, and i left in the entire head of steamed garlic
[00:50:49] <Bytram> sure ain't meat. or grain. or nuts. or dairy.
[00:50:58] <Bytram> carrots++
[00:50:58] <Bender> karma - carrots: 1
[00:51:22] <AzumaHazuki> everything's so fucked up when it comes to food. i think i have some serious issues with it...
[00:51:36] <RandomFactor> That which sustains me, destroys me.
[00:51:47] <AzumaHazuki> like remembering when i was just over 200lb, uuuuugh. and remembering all the times i had to eat from dumpsters and trash cans...
[00:51:59] <Bytram> uuugh.
[00:52:43] <AzumaHazuki> the lizard brain panics. it's convinced that will happen again, and tries to make me overeat
[00:53:09] <Bytram> yep.
[00:53:38] <AzumaHazuki> on top of that, i am a ridiculously stereotypical Cancer, which means "if you love someone feed them." Thamkfully my orgo and pharm background adds "...nutritious, healthy food in proper proportions"
[00:53:41] <Bytram> there was one time I got to about 20 lbs over my usual weight (medication side-effect boosted hunger)
[00:54:16] <Bytram> felt like I was carrying around 20 lbs of dead weight all day and made me sluggish.
[00:54:48] <AzumaHazuki> that sounds awful, yeah. even with the extra 10lb or so (and I'm still well within healthy limits for a 5'10" woman) i feel gross
[00:54:53] <Bytram> tried to keep busy between meals, was patient with myself that I might get "hangry" and try to be mindful of that.
[00:55:22] <Bytram> took a few months (IIRC) and am now back to my usual weight.
[00:56:16] <Bytram> speaking of food, I should get some. Prolly something easy like peanut butter sandwich
[00:56:23] <Bytram> afk biab
[00:56:30] <RandomFactor> with bananas
[00:56:58] <RandomFactor> Peanut Butter, Marshmellow Creme, and Banana sammich is the bomb
[00:57:08] <AzumaHazuki> sounds like what killed Elvis
[00:57:19] <Bytram> touche'
[00:57:21] <RandomFactor> He didn't add the marshmellow creme
[00:57:48] * AzumaHazuki deals with hunger a lot, but tries to think of it as a sort of meditation on solidarity with those who REALLY suffer, and a way of keeping her past in similar situations in mind
[00:58:02] <AzumaHazuki> i do spend a lot of the day feeling acid-y and hangry sometimes
[00:58:31] <Bytram> and grateful for a meal when I do have one.
[00:59:02] <RandomFactor> yep. starving is good for you, but it stinks.
[00:59:24] <Bytram> everything in moderation, including moderation
[01:00:01] <AzumaHazuki> yeah...definitely some issues with food here ><
[01:00:25] <Bytram> ok, this time for sure!
[01:00:27] <Bytram> afk
[01:00:34] <AzumaHazuki> i've decided the best thing i can do to honor others and myself is to eat cleanly, cheaply, with low waste, and mindfully

[16:29:20] <SoyGuest10360> As we've beginning to get less young, the idea of where we might end our days has started to become more relevant. I did put forward the argument that I might want to go senile in a country where I don't need to worry about using a foreign language, and English will suffice, and 'er indoors responded "they speak better English here than in the UK"...
