[03:41:20] <RandomFactor> So my water heater starts dripping from the plastic drain faucet. Looks bog standard and should be pretty simple to replace but...Home Depot, ACE and Lowe's aren't open tomorrow. Cold showers are gonna suck in the morning. I'm also assuming there's no reason to replace it with more plastic.

[15:10:25] <RandomFactor> I was right about the cold showers
[15:10:56] <janrinok> lol - but I bet it woke you up...
[15:11:21] <RandomFactor> Maybe walmart. They might have random plumbing bits.
[15:11:36] <janrinok> I assume it is a specially threaded piece of plastic that will cost several times what it should?
[15:11:53] <RandomFactor> I am pretty sure it is just a standard threaded faucet
[15:12:14] <janrinok> of course, but they will _claim_ that it is special
[15:12:39] <chromas> reverse-polarity pipe ;)
[15:12:51] <janrinok> you mean it sucks?
[15:13:30] <janrinok> ... or is it because the water is now on the outside?
[15:13:51] <RandomFactor> well the drip pan is half full. Lucky we spotted it actually.
[15:14:10] <RandomFactor> most of the water has now run out the hose down the hill in back
[15:14:17] <chromas> It's not rusty water, hopefully
[15:14:44] <RandomFactor> no, but it is a completely plastic (but otherwise apparently normal) faucet that screws into the base of the water heater
[15:15:02] <RandomFactor> I'm assuming it is plastic as some sort of 'emergency blow out' or some crap
[15:15:11] <RandomFactor> as if there aren't already enough of those
[15:15:39] <chromas> I'd think the base one would be for draining
[15:15:40] <RandomFactor> and the stupid plastic faucet couldn't even handle the stress of just sitting there and started leaking
[15:15:43] <RandomFactor> it is
[15:15:58] <RandomFactor> it's the one you drain it from once a year (in theory...)
[15:16:02] <chromas> well, sounds like it's working as intended. it's draining, right?
[15:16:30] <RandomFactor> Insightful
[15:16:32] <chromas> and if you haven't been doing it, well it's about time thenm
[15:16:44] <RandomFactor> Chromas++
[15:16:44] <Bender> karma - chromas: 266
[15:16:48] <chromas> the valve's just trying to help out
[15:17:27] <RandomFactor> it will be cheap metal instead of cheaper plastic when I'm done
[15:19:55] <RandomFactor> Also to run the hose out the basement i had to open the basement door. So i drag in the hose the cat is afeared, i put the hose down pick it up to put it upstairs (note - picking an afeared cat != smart) so it wouldn't run away. Once we got up the stairs it decided it had enough and my wrist now
[15:19:55] <RandomFactor> will get me reported to suicide interventions. A
[15:19:55] <RandomFactor> t least we have some iodine lying about. That stuff stings.

[15:22:20] <exec> <chromas> Be sure to wear short sleeves
[15:23:31] <RandomFactor> And frankly no where near my worst plumbing related thanksgiving. I still remember the great juice-pack down the toilet (kids...) incident of 2009 where the water pressure actually broke my pipe to the sewer and flooded the basement. Getting a plumber on thanksgiving is quick and cheap as you are
[15:23:31] <RandomFactor> doubtless speculating.
