[00:01:51] <SoyGuest34983> chromas: for synching codebases, I generally just use git. it has the transport layer all worked out. If you can clone, you can pull.
[00:04:40] <chromas> that's a good idea
[00:05:16] <chromas> Actually, I have it set up as a mercurial repo but I haven't checked in or wahtever in ages
[00:06:19] <chromas> the bot gives a range violation reading stuff from the config array but not hen reading the file, so I'm assuming it's AIDS

[00:10:42] <chromas> &ping
[00:10:42] <systemd> Pong!
[00:11:05] <chromas> There. I finally got systemd on soylent LD
[00:11:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> i think it's already on some boxen
[00:11:36] <chromas> it works but I shouldn't keep it there. Sometimes the bot spazzes out and eats all the ram
[00:12:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> ya, that'd no be good
[00:13:06] <chromas> It'd be helpful if threads were killable
[00:13:25] <chromas> At least, from htop, killing a thread == killing the whole process
[00:13:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> write that into the program.
[00:14:37] -!- arti|work [arti|work!~textual@kpku-40-80-465-497.west.biz.rr.com] has joined #soylent

[00:28:18] <TheMightyBuzzard> if you don't wanna learn how to do it in dlang, have the questionable thread do a shell call to top and snag the res field
[00:28:32] <TheMightyBuzzard> then die if it's way too damned much

[01:16:56] <AzumaHazuki> i took the desk top off the pipe assembly and put the kitchen table panel on them. perfect, rock solid
[01:17:04] <AzumaHazuki> tomorrow may be time to make some pelmeni
[01:21:39] -!- arti|work has quit [Quit: My Mac has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
[01:45:14] <chromas> TheMightyBuzzard: Sometimes a thread just kinda gets stuck. Instead of debugging, it'd be easier if the main thread could just nuke i
[01:45:15] <chromas> t
[01:47:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> chromas, give the threads a heartbeat then and go all robe and scythe on their asses if they miss one.
[01:48:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> on your own for ideas for a while now. nicotine then spicy-ass chicken.
[01:48:51] <AzumaHazuki> ooh, someday i want to try that, the Nashville hot chicken
[01:48:54] <chromas> According to the fount of all knowledge, StackOverflow, murdering threads is considered #Dangerous

[01:52:37] -!- systemd has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
[01:57:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> sigh, my hot chicken has been spoiled.
[01:57:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> AzumaHazuki, ask a cabbie where to get it. the famous for it place sold out and the cooks all work at another place now.
[01:58:06] <AzumaHazuki> well pizdec. maybe i should make at home
[02:00:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> my chicken got ruined by the news that my twenty some odd years of living in a PMS-free house have come to an end. TR's girl child has joined the sisterhood of the crabby pants.
[02:00:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> you may mock my pain now
[02:01:30] <AzumaHazuki> well, a little perspective...crabbiness for about 1/4 of the next 35 years, vs. utter bat-shagging stupidity from 10-death?
[02:01:34] <AzumaHazuki> i know which i'd choose
[02:10:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> that's constant though, so you get used to it and don't have to keep a calendar so you know when to take a week long fishing trip
[02:12:00] <AzumaHazuki> oh, broth-er, that's the best you've got?
[02:12:26] <AzumaHazuki> don't worry, honey, you aren't ever going to get up close and personal with the source of said crabby-pantsness
[02:19:40] <chromas> Mmm, broth
[02:21:37] <AzumaHazuki> actually, that reminds me...still have that crock of beef broth. i should dump split peas in
[02:21:50] <chromas> Yes
[02:21:52] <chromas> or something good
[02:23:21] <AzumaHazuki> it's cheap, healthy, and delicious :9 the broth was made with half an onion, lots of garlic, some ginger, and lots of pepper
[02:23:36] <AzumaHazuki> so, add peas and cook till they basically puree themselves...
[02:24:24] <chromas> You could make a chili
[02:24:52] <AzumaHazuki> ground meats is for pelmeni, but that's an idea
[02:25:45] <chromas> Now I want soup. Thanks a lot
[02:25:52] <AzumaHazuki> anytime, lol
[02:26:03] <chromas> But I can't; already made a pizza and threw it in the oven
[02:26:10] <chromas> But it's a chili pizza
[02:26:17] <AzumaHazuki> that sounds delicious
[02:27:28] <chromas> We pre-fab crusts in batches and throw them into the freezer, so we can just pull one out, mix stuff and chuck it into the oven

[23:22:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> there're plenty that don't cost much of anything, non-profit isn't a necessity.
[23:22:42] <ClownHatLinux> ✓ Sub-ccess! "Bad News: 'Unblockable' Web Trackers Emerge. Good News: Firefox With uBlock Origin Can Stop It. Chro" (25 paragraphs) -> https://soylentnews.org
[23:22:54] <Deucalion> OK - NFP not required, how about price capped.
[23:23:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> not that i'm aware of. our .us domain doesn't cost us much of anything though unless i'm totally off base in my recollection.
[23:24:18] <Deucalion> The whole .org scenario is scandalous. Price caps removed, private equity firm moves in, links to previous ICANN big dog. Only 2 named employees. Whole thing smells foul.
[23:24:56] <Bytram> is there a *reputable* site that one can query domain name availability without them going out and front-running your queried domain?
[23:25:30] <Deucalion> Not that I am aware of. Try nslookup or dig from CLI - see if you get an NX
[23:26:22] <Deucalion> The websites just script linux dig commands and format them as far as I've seen
[23:26:50] <Bytram> good info, tx!

[23:29:12] <Deucalion> man dig or info dig if you have a linux OS - all the options are there... what nameserver to query, what records to request etc. It's a very good tool. Even supports AAAA records for IPv6. I'm sure nslookup on MS Windows is just as full featured, I'm just not familiar so speaking to my experience.
[23:29:28] <Bytram> nod nod
[23:29:54] <AzumaHazuki> pelmeni are done :)
[23:30:39] <AzumaHazuki> wholemeal flour is a bit heavy for the casing, but it works okay
[23:32:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> looks like we already own soylentnews.net
[23:32:30] <Deucalion> And yes sadly you are right Bytram - doing a domain query on any top search engine listed website that proffers domain availability checking functions some of the time sees that name registered in short order. Weirdly though, most of the time they just seem to get used for putting shitty ads on rather than putting up a "If you want to buy this domain name" type page.
[23:33:43] * Bytram had heard of such things, but was years ago... didn't know if it was still "a thing"
[23:34:08] <Deucalion> Bytram, me neither been a goodly few years since I went domain shopping
[23:34:11] <TheMightyBuzzard> ya, we have .com, .org, and .net
[23:34:55] <TheMightyBuzzard> still have grepnews domains too but i'd rather pick a new TLD
[23:35:08] <Bytram> hmmm
[23:35:39] <Deucalion> We'll keep a watching eye on the soylentnews.org May be worth doing a premature 10yr renewal at current pricing before the new owners crank up the pricing.
[23:37:29] <Bytram> I am not sure, but I *think* we need certs for the non-.org TLDs
[23:37:30] <Deucalion> I'd rather stick with soylent over grep as it's our public domain - changing anything other than the TLD doesn't make any sense anyway... grepnews.org will be subjst to the same hikes as soylentnews.org... if said price hikes even occur
[23:38:38] <Deucalion> Bytram, that's OK, we just annoy TheMightyBuzzard by asking him to update the LetsEncrypt doodads for ALL the domains :D
[23:39:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> Bytram, we don't use any of the domains except soylentnews.org and slynt.us
[23:39:20] <TheMightyBuzzard> the rest are just parked.
[23:39:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> but, yeah, we would need new certs.
[23:39:48] <Bytram> do they redirect to us or anything?
[23:40:16] <TheMightyBuzzard> they wouldn't work if they did. rehash is sitename-specific

[23:40:53] <Deucalion> Bytram, http rewrites to https
[23:40:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> looks like they redirect
[23:41:01] <AzumaHazuki> https://i.imgur.com If anyone wants to see pelmeni (and kitchen table)
[23:41:26] * Deucalion had no idea what pelmeni is
[23:41:35] * Bytram neither

[23:42:15] <Bytram> kinda looks like chinese "Pot Stickers"
[23:42:18] <TheMightyBuzzard> table looks good. you break down and get a good set of pipe clamps or using the cheap aluminum bar clamps?
[23:42:40] <Deucalion> All I know now is they look like little UFOs and involve dubious cooking residues and blue plastic bags.... sure that;s not a meth lab you got going there AzumaHazuki ?
[23:43:09] <AzumaHazuki> those are actually just screw-together pipe nipples/tees/unions
[23:43:22] <Bytram> table does look good. How thick is the surface?
[23:43:36] <AzumaHazuki> only 5/8" or so. it's a cheap SPF project board
[23:43:36] <Bytram> looks to be under an inch?
[23:44:22] <Bytram> not too bad for eye-balling it from a picture! (and I *was* trying to be generous)
[23:44:29] * Deucalion like functional formed stuff. Nice slab of oak on plumbing pipe frame would be nice.
[23:44:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> ahh, thought you'd laminated and planed some boards
[23:44:57] <AzumaHazuki> yeah, i have to do this all as cheap as possible because hurr hurr poor. necessity is the mother of invention, but being broke as fuck is the...er...other mother?
[23:44:59] <Bytram> door on saw horses
[23:45:05] <Deucalion> SPF is particle fibre?
[23:45:21] <Bytram> =g SPF particle

[23:45:26] <AzumaHazuki> spruce/pine/fir. the lumber equivalent of cheap meat but not ground meat
[23:45:26] <Bytram> nope
[23:45:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> TR made one out of spruce 2x4s standing long-edge-vertical. makes a hell of a sturdy workbench top.
[23:45:56] <Deucalion> Sawdust and glue compressed?
[23:46:13] <AzumaHazuki> edge-glued boards actually. solid wood, just not very good wood
[23:46:38] * TheMightyBuzzard shurgs
[23:46:53] <AzumaHazuki> but enough for me. sanded with 150 and 220, coated in butcher block oil, sanded with 320, coated again, and it came out okay
[23:46:55] <TheMightyBuzzard> unless you were going for beautiful hardwood, it's what it's supposed to be.
[23:48:50] <AzumaHazuki> mine are kind of big...some of them look more like tiny boiled chebureki than anything
[23:48:52] <TheMightyBuzzard> personally, i wouldn't want a hardwood cook prep table. you're GOING TO hit it with knives and set hot pans on it sooner or later.
[23:49:13] <Bytram> besides the butcher block oil, looks like you used a liberal amount of "elbow grease"
[23:49:30] <Deucalion> Oh OK - nothing wrong with soft wood at all other than being a a bit... well soft for a prep surface (gets bruised, dented and cut easy). When I saw the abbreviation SPF I though it must be some glue laminate or reconstituted fibre crap that would turn to much once it gets damp. As you were, I approve :D Not that you care if I approve :D:D
[23:49:51] <AzumaHazuki> i do appreciate the approval from someone who knows about these things actually
[23:50:32] <AzumaHazuki> these are all firsts for me. those pelmeni need more stuff in the meat filling too; next time they're getting a bunch of herbs and some salt
[23:52:08] <Bytram> to make it last longer, *always* use a potholder under hot dishes, and *always* cut on a cutting board, never on the table's surface. Do that, and you should get many years of service out of it!
[23:52:57] <TheMightyBuzzard> the way it's finished, you can remove knife cuts and shallow burns quite easily. good call for a prep table. plus if it gets really funky before you want something else, you can slap another layer on top. happy new finish and even sturdier.
[23:53:33] <Bytram> agreed.
[23:53:49] <Bytram> do you have any diagonal bracing?
[23:54:12] <AzumaHazuki> unfortunately no, but it seems not to need it. i'm being careful not to put too much pressure on the center
[23:54:27] <Bytram> nod nod
[23:54:42] <AzumaHazuki> also always using a cutting board, and will use a trivet for hot pots/dishes
[23:54:54] <Bytram> bingo
[23:55:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> i'm going with stainless for the church counters. cutting board would be to keep from damaging the knives not the counter. not pretty but wicked functional.
[23:55:56] <Bytram> be careful, too, with force along the long length; you're relying on right angles to stay that way, but you have lotsa leverage against it.
[23:56:17] <TheMightyBuzzard> plus it gives me an excuse to buy a sheet metal break
[23:56:32] <AzumaHazuki> yeah, i'm a bit nervous about that...i tend to put the heavy things to the left or right over where the floor-flanges connect the legs to the panel's underside
[23:56:47] <Bytram> a cross pipe halfway up the back side going left-to-right would help a lot.
[23:57:20] <Bytram> sort of like the horizontal part of a letter "H"
[23:58:02] <AzumaHazuki> hm...no idea how to do that. the legs are 24" pipe members coming off a sort of braced base assembly
[23:58:30] <Bytram> I'm guessing that is 1/2 inch pipe?
[23:59:07] <AzumaHazuki> yes
[23:59:15] <Bytram> k
[23:59:20] <AzumaHazuki> 3/4 would have worked too but it was a lot more expensive
[23:59:25] <Bytram> yep
[23:59:54] <Bytram> check out the electrical dept. they have clamps to hold conduit to a wall...
