[00:17:47] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Virgin Galactic Unveils Commercial Space Suits - https://sylnt.us - must-be-space-fashion-week
[00:58:41] <TheMightyBuzzard> well, i'm a lumberjack but i'm not okay. my back's objecting quite a lot to bucking, loading, and unloading several tons of tree today
[01:00:35] <chromas> TheMightyBuzzard: This will help you: https://www.guns.com
[01:00:36] <upstart> ^ 03Yeet Cannon: Hi-Point Bows to Crowd-Favored YC9 Name for new Pistol
[01:01:08] <chromas> I thought high-point made pellet guns. They look like pellet guns
[01:03:22] <TheMightyBuzzard> funny but i'd never buy one
[01:04:03] <chromas> What about a Shooty McShootface?
[01:04:53] <TheMightyBuzzard> andre the giant hands. i need a .45 or .50 or something with an extended magazine if i'm buying an automatic.
[01:06:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> otherwise i get two very predictable slices cut into the meat between my thumb and forefinger by the slide
[01:08:46] <chromas> Taste the heat, not the meat
[01:19:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> i'd rather taste the creeper or something right now. back pain sucks and i don't do opiates.
[01:19:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> combine them with caffeine and they make me wanna yack
[01:39:37] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: what you are describing, now, has been my every-day-for-the-past-decade. And it's not just my back, but forearms and now calves/thighs, too.
[01:39:54] -!- boru` [boru`!~boru@wedx-64-618-159-002.dynamic.mnet-online.de] has joined #Soylent
[01:39:57] -!- boru has quit [Killed (NickServ (GHOST command used by boru`!~boru@wedx-64-618-159-002.dynamic.mnet-online.de))]
[01:39:59] boru` is now known as boru
[01:40:13] <Bytram> I am not looking forward to the day when Ibuprofen stops keeping it in check.
[01:50:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> gettin old's annoying but at least you get to yell at folks to get off your lawn
[01:51:46] <Bytram> There is that, yes.
[01:52:45] <Bytram> OTOH, at least this is relatively low-grade pain. When I came down with sciatica, I could walk no more than 200 feet before I would have to stop and take a break for a couple minutes.
[01:56:54] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Scientists Find Early Humans Moved through Mediterranean Earlier than Believed - https://sylnt.us - the-grass-is-always-greener-on-the-other-side-of-the-sea

[01:57:29] <Bytram> lol
[01:59:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> i can't do ibuprofen. well i can but i generally prefer pain to a bleeding ulcer.
[01:59:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> despite the hype, i just don't find them all that fun.
[02:00:24] <AzumaHazuki> that's what she nsaid
[02:00:48] <Bytram> IIRC, an ulcer is the result of an infection(?) of some sort. Acetominphen does nothing for me, neither does aspirin, nor that other new NSAID, Alieve?
[02:00:56] <TheMightyBuzzard> AzumaHazuki++ #hot cross puns
[02:00:56] <Bender> karma - azumahazuki: 18
[02:00:58] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki++ Good One!
[02:00:58] <Bender> karma - azumahazuki: 19
[02:01:32] <AzumaHazuki> lol, pharmacy puns. me and both pharmacists are bloody awful
[02:02:05] <Bytram> two thirds of a pun: P.U.
[02:02:18] <TheMightyBuzzard> mine'er generally caused by anything that says "take with food or milk".
[02:02:39] <AzumaHazuki> Bytram: ulcers are caused by Heliobacter pylori but NSAIDs can cause GI erosion/bleeding by themselves. Aaaaand it turns out all of them but aspirin also up CV risk
[02:03:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> which is weird cause aleve also carries a failure to clot risk
[02:04:12] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki: so 4x200mg about 6x per day?
[02:04:14] <AzumaHazuki> yup. COX1/2 inhibition, but not irreversible like aspirin. has to do with shifting the prostaglandin (proinflammatory) vs prostacyclin (antiinflammatory) output
[02:04:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> learn sumpin new every day
[02:04:49] <AzumaHazuki> uhhhh...4800mg of what daily? o_O
[02:05:05] <Bytram> posted it earlier, sorry. Ibuprofen
[02:05:20] <AzumaHazuki> oh gods. the most i have ever seen prescribed is 800mg 3x daily
[02:05:27] <AzumaHazuki> and for no more than a month
[02:06:22] <Bytram> Yeah, I was prescribed 800mg years and years ago when I tore a rotator cuff in an arm-wrestling match; my shoulder sounded like someone was trying to clean a turkey leg off a carcas.
[02:06:40] <Bytram> after some PT and the fullness of time, that passed.
[02:06:58] <Bytram> Since then, I managed to take a couple really nasty falls that jammed up both shoulders.
[02:07:03] <AzumaHazuki> if ibu were a new drug it'd come with a boxed warning, i bet...
[02:07:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> heh, stepmom's been on one otc painkiller or the other for her whole adult life. got herself a goodly helping of fibromialgia around the time she got lyme disease
[02:07:30] <AzumaHazuki> from what i've read, naproxen is the least likely to cause CV issues but that maaaaay be based on flawed studies
[02:07:37] <Bytram> And, of course, I am using my hands all day long, and my forearms are as tight as steel bands all the time.
[02:08:03] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: sorry to hear that. That ain't no fun.
[02:08:28] <AzumaHazuki> there really aren't good solutions for chronic pain. evolution kind of expects us to poshol na khuy at 35 or so...
[02:08:56] <TheMightyBuzzard> man, be glad she did. standing anywhere near her if she could move any better would be dangerous.
[02:09:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> woman used to wait fuck knows how many tables at once and never let a glass get to half empty. she's like a pinball on crack.
[02:10:18] <Bytram> fortunately, I have never had stomach issues. I like extra spicy Chinese food (of course not at the level that YOU do!) Though nearly a week of heavy duty IV antibiotics nearly two years ago may have altered by gut microbiome a bit.
[02:10:20] <TheMightyBuzzard> nowadays she RN's fuck knows how many patients instead.
[02:11:01] <AzumaHazuki> Bytram: yeah, antibiotics do stuff we really don't understand that well to the gut flora. probiotics aren't a magic bullet either since you can end up getting too many of *them* in the gut, not to mention SIBO
[02:11:18] <AzumaHazuki> then it turns out there's like 4 different kinds of fibre/resistant starch...
[02:11:24] <TheMightyBuzzard> man i can chomp down habanero stuff like nobody's business but if i take more than 250mg of asprin i'm going to be bleeding in my gi tract.
[02:11:42] * Bytram downed about a gallon of yogurt afterwards (over the course of a couple weeks)
[02:12:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> antibiotics are another fun one that i never, ever forget to take with food anymore
[02:12:25] <Bytram> let's hope you never have to go on blood thinner for cardiac matters.
[02:12:29] <AzumaHazuki> "Take him to the yoghurt room and give him 15 gallons!" "Uh, I can't eat 15 gallons..." "Oh, it's not going in that end buddy boy"
[02:12:36] <Bytram> ROFL!
[02:12:49] * TheMightyBuzzard chuckles
[02:13:30] <Bytram> Yeah, but you weren't the one recovering from cellulitis with an arm that looked like the back of a gator, but colored red, instead.
[02:13:58] <Bytram> If I'd waited another day before going to the doctor, we would not be having this conversation.
[02:13:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> on the up side, i'm no longer lactose intolerant after using heavy cream in my coffee the past few years.
[02:14:02] <AzumaHazuki> nature is fucking horrifying. the incidence of atheism among biologists and medical professionals is entirely unsurprising
[02:15:24] <AzumaHazuki> my cousin did a pediatric oncology residence. how, i will never understand. first time i lost one i'd drink myself to death, and this from the straight-edger...
[02:15:26] <TheMightyBuzzard> no idea if i got desensitized or it was a normal metabolism change but i can sit down and eat a pint of cottage cheese again.
[02:15:35] <Bytram> Well, from my perspective, given the incredible number of finely balanced "pathways" and systems in the human body, and the ability to adapt to so many adverse situations and events absolutely amazes me.
[02:16:10] <Bytram> Yow! I. Just. Cannot. Imagine.
[02:16:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> gah. i don't like kids very much and i still wouldn't pick jv oncology.
[02:16:47] <Bytram> I don't mind 'em much, except I sure wish they came with a volume control!
[02:17:03] <AzumaHazuki> i'd have cried myself into hypovolaemia and drunk myself the rest of the way into the spirit realm, ugh...and i'm the type who cries at half-decade intervals
[02:17:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> they're loud, dumb, and smell bad. i only like the related or pseudo-related ones. and not all of them.
[02:19:16] <Bytram> At least they grow out of it. Well, mostly. Well, most of 'em. Well, except the current POTUS
[02:19:18] <Bytram> ;)
[02:19:30] <TheMightyBuzzard> and hippies
[02:20:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> well a certain flavor of them anyway. deadheads don't tend to be all that loud.
[02:20:04] * chromas throws a hacky sack into the channel
[02:20:15] * Bytram kicks it back
[02:20:22] * TheMightyBuzzard kicks chromas's sack too
[02:20:58] * chromas sacks TheMightyBuzzard for kicks
[02:21:28] <TheMightyBuzzard> woot! that leaves you stuck babysitting servers through linode reboots!
[02:22:08] <Bytram> speaking of which, we have until Nov 20 til the certs need renewing again.
[02:22:22] <chromas> That's fine. When things got titsup, I'll just switch them over to wordpress with the disqus plugin
[02:22:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> nod nod. they're only good for three months.
[02:22:29] <Bytram> Just putting it out there so that if I should forget, someone else can remind me.
[02:22:36] <Bytram> righto
[02:22:39] <TheMightyBuzzard> sounds reasonable.
[02:23:18] <TheMightyBuzzard> i'm pretty sure if you forget too long someone will definitely remind you
[02:24:14] <Bytram> Ya think?
[02:24:28] <TheMightyBuzzard> okay, fun but i gotta go let my spine be horizontal. timing works out well since i'd also like to sleep.
[02:24:56] <AzumaHazuki> omg https://purrli.com
[02:24:57] <upstart> ^ 03<The Internet has a Cat! Meet Purrli, the online cat purr generator.
[02:25:04] <Bytram> What we need is a sentinel service that depends on a cert, but we issue it a couple days early so it gives us advance notice when the real ones are about to go.
[02:25:07] <AzumaHazuki> ...i think i'll keep this on a background tab for a while :)
[02:28:23] * Bytram wonders why, if it is free as it pruports to be, Noscript says it needs to load something from stripe.com?
[02:29:19] <chromas> Maybe it's got a donate button
[02:29:22] <Bytram> oh. /me scrolls down and sees donation window
[02:36:49] * Bytram once had a cat that purred so loudly, I could not let it sleep with me because it kept me awake.
[02:37:26] <Bytram> okay, time for me to be heading to bed. Got another full day at work ahead for me tomorrow.
