[03:52:41] <TheMightyBuzzard> AzumaHazuki, spam filters being overzealous. trying to talk about apk?
[03:53:21] <AzumaHazuki> No, but the block the words stupid and idiot now, LOL
[03:53:40] <AzumaHazuki> i did warn you...at some point the cost of keeping this place functional was going to clash fatally with freeze peach uber alles
[03:53:51] <AzumaHazuki> but, hell, no one listens to Cassandra...
[03:53:55] <TheMightyBuzzard> depends on how many times you use stupid in a comment, but yeah, that's not a very good word to have in a filter
[03:55:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> resolved to stuff that should never trigger on a normal comment
[03:56:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> stupid away

[04:01:42] <Sulla> all the drywall is off that needs to be, electrical moved, know where new posts will go, got the beam bought and laminated
[04:01:57] <Sulla> now to figure out how to build a temporary wall
[04:03:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> you don't. you pull a board out and replace it with the proper board. you don't have enough sheetrock down btw. near side and far side both have to come off.
[04:04:08] <TheMightyBuzzard> can't pull out boards screwed to the far side.
[04:05:39] <Sulla> why no temporary wall?
[04:05:48] <Sulla> you want me dead so you can feast on my corpse
[04:05:50] <TheMightyBuzzard> no point in one
[04:06:03] <Sulla> but then how will rafters be supported
[04:06:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> you replace one board at a time.
[04:06:27] <AzumaHazuki> ...the ship-lap of theseus, as it were? :v
[04:06:39] <Sulla> every board you see will come out for a beam, with exception of the top two 2x4s against ceiling
[04:07:52] <TheMightyBuzzard> ahh, right. still not much use in a temporary wall. it wouldn't be in the right place.

[04:10:03] <TheMightyBuzzard> sinus thing.
[04:10:08] <Sulla> is that one of the boards has some good sag in it
[04:10:18] <Sulla> one of the 3/4in is cracked
[04:11:39] <TheMightyBuzzard> something i could normally figure out easy but ain't gonna happen just now.

[06:22:46] <tortured_old_man> Sulla - is that all of the wall that you are going to replace?
[06:23:08] <tortured_old_man> sulla - to clarify, you are NOT going to replace the wall that continues out of sight to the right?
[06:23:56] <tortured_old_man> If that be so, you need no temp wall, because you still have load bearing wall standing
[06:24:55] <tortured_old_man> load bearing to the right, load bearing straight ahead in the stairwell wall, and load bearing off to the left, 3 feet from the end of the doorway
[06:25:39] <tortured_old_man> PLUS - as the Buzzard doesn't quite say, all of those studs in the wall you have torn out will continue to be load-bearing until you pull that one stud out
[06:26:35] <tortured_old_man> I don't see the sag you mention in the photo, do you mean in the doorway header?
[06:27:17] <tortured_old_man> What I see there is not sag, but a poor fit of the door frame
[06:28:53] <Sulla> salready built a temp wall
[06:29:04] <Sulla> have everything down but the old studs and the old header

[06:30:41] <Sulla> cant get enough play
[06:31:12] <Sulla> gonna try to find metal bit for jig saw
[06:31:29] <chromas> Stuff the end of a pry bar in and whack it with the hammer
[06:31:58] <tortured_old_man> Can always use circular saw, cut stud near middle, pull top and bottom halves loose, just hammer the nails down into the top and bottom plates.
[06:32:30] <tortured_old_man> Or, if you're really into butchery, just hit the top or bottom with a BFH
[06:33:05] <tortured_old_man> hit sidewise, not on edge, won't damage the plates
[06:33:35] <tortured_old_man> hitting on edge would go a long way towared destruction of the plates
[06:34:22] <Sulla> is midnight and 4.5yo twins and 1.5yo are sleepin
[06:34:42] <tortured_old_man> Oh, wait, clarification: You would BEND the nails, then beat them down into the wood - don't try to drive the nails out, LOL
[06:34:58] <Sulla> yeah
[06:35:17] <tortured_old_man> Do twins need as much sleep as normies? They can share half the sleep can't they?
[06:35:39] <Sulla> luckily they need more
[06:35:50] <tortured_old_man> LOL
[06:36:02] <Sulla> they probably buried my new sawzall in ye yard
[06:36:43] <tortured_old_man> My kids still do shit like that at ages 30+

[06:42:05] <Sulla> wife probably put it somewhere "safe" and forgot
[06:42:24] <tortured_old_man> Well, of course not - you have to get down to a kid's level to look, or the thing will never appear
[06:42:47] <Sulla> f
[06:43:00] <Sulla> found a can of white lithium grease emptied on their slide
[06:43:31] <tortured_old_man> Mother will love that in her laundry - presuming she has her own washer and dryer

[21:01:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> lacquer gives you a harder and much more easily repairable finish. tung oil, if you can find the real stuff without poly, is equally purdy and dirt simple to repair.
[21:03:46] <TheMightyBuzzard> reason poly's so universal nowadays is it handles heat, water, and chemicals better than anything and nobody cares that you have to either throw the piece away after a few years with lots of sun exposure or after fifteen with nothing but indoor lighting.
[21:24:36] <Sulla> thats good to know
[21:24:44] <Sulla> ill stop using poly
[21:30:15] <pinchy> poly wanna cracker?
[21:42:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> any finish besides poly gets better looking as it ages. poly at best gets yellower. it holds up to kids a hell of a lot better than anything else though, so if you've got them around either use poly and plan on throwing the piece away or plan on having to do a little light sanding and add another coat of finish.

[22:53:03] <Sulla> wife stained a butcher block some cherry color and its gotta go
[22:54:24] <TheMightyBuzzard> Sulla, a lot most likely. stain's a bitch to sand out. chemical strippers are easier but just staining it something darker is easiest.

[22:56:52] <TheMightyBuzzard> you're not supposed to stain butcher blocks anyway. they're supposed to be natural colored and hit with linseed oil or some such as a finish.
[22:57:08] <TheMightyBuzzard> looks good
[22:59:09] <TheMightyBuzzard> ideally you never stain or use any finishes besides oils on anything that is gonna touch food. otherwise you end up eating them.
[22:59:46] <Sulla> yeah thats my opinion
[22:59:53] <Sulla> ill flip it and use the unstained side
