[17:40:01] <SemperOSS> Oi, Bytram, you here?
[17:46:07] <AndyTheAbsurd> the first thing we do when the revolution comes
[17:46:38] <AndyTheAbsurd> is we find the 3% of JavaScript developers who don't suck, set them aside,
[17:47:05] <AndyTheAbsurd> and then kill all the remaining JavaScript developers.
[17:52:11] <SemperOSS> Can't we just do away with JavaScript and replace it with obscured perl instead?
[17:54:12] <SemperOSS> That would "revolutionise" a lot.
[17:56:56] <janrinok> ~gday World
[17:56:58] * exec romantically straps a sockful of curly fries on World
[17:58:31] <SemperOSS> ~gday janrinok, how goes
[17:58:34] * exec hideously separates a rar archive of gas from janrinok,
[17:59:27] <janrinok> SemperOSS, not too bad. The modifications to the house have been mostly successful other than an electrician who excels at blowing fuses!
[18:00:02] <janrinok> how 'bout u?
[18:00:28] <SemperOSS> Oh, I could tell stories about electricians ... but yeah, irritating
[18:01:03] <janrinok> unfortunately, until he has got his wiring sorted, the other trades cannot get on with finishing of the walls etc
[18:01:04] <SemperOSS> I can't complain (too much) just been polishing a little script on boron
[18:01:16] <janrinok> does boron polish up well?
[18:01:27] <SemperOSS> Tell me your story and then I can tell you mine
[18:01:49] <SemperOSS> (electricians, ya know)
[18:01:51] * janrinok has never polished many metals other than gold, silver, copper and brass
[18:02:21] <SemperOSS> Now you got me wondering ... how DOES boron react to polishing?
[18:03:40] <janrinok> Its the same story as yesterday. When the house was build (1970s) somebody thought they could save some time by hiding cables within door frames.... Now that we are having wider doors fitted, the builders start enlarging the existing doors and keep finding cables that shouldn't be there. But now those cables have to be re-routed.
[18:03:58] <janrinok> built*
[18:05:08] <janrinok> ... and as they also seem to have used non-standard colour coding for cables the current electricians keep find out the hard way which wire is which!
[18:05:38] * janrinok regrets the pun 'current electricians' - as if there was another kind...
[18:05:39] <SemperOSS> Yeah, that's no fun.
[18:06:17] <SemperOSS> Well, you've apparently been alternating between them
[18:06:27] <janrinok> had a few laughs at their expense though. They don't have jump with 240v up 'em
[18:06:35] <janrinok> half*
[18:07:03] <janrinok> I think I've been quite direct with them.
[18:07:14] <SemperOSS> LOL
[18:07:25] <janrinok> it's a phase I'm going through
[18:07:46] <janrinok> I know, it's shocking but I cannot stop
[18:08:02] <janrinok> I do try to resist
[18:08:22] <SemperOSS> Ha ha. I'm too slow today
[18:08:25] <janrinok> watt'ever...
[18:08:47] <SemperOSS> I think I'm out of power now
[18:08:59] <janrinok> OK, you getting speed up now!
[18:09:34] <SemperOSS> It's like my E-mail where I've got problems with my contacts
[18:09:37] <janrinok> my typing is behind my brain, I'm typing like I am cmn32480
[18:09:55] <janrinok> what's the problem?
[18:11:04] <SemperOSS> Nothing I can't solve ... I'm on my O-L-D backup laptop as the other is in for repairs, always something cropping up
[18:11:34] <janrinok> at least you have a standby, and I'll bet you have backups too
[18:12:03] <SemperOSS> I do. Five backups in four locations in two countries, actually
[18:12:25] <janrinok> damn - a professional. Are you sure you are on the correct site?
[18:13:20] <SemperOSS> I'm an old code-head but not doing that professionally any more so I enjoy the hands on of my own systems and helping out here too
[18:14:04] <SemperOSS> The multi-country backups are courtesy of a friend and my brother
[18:14:14] <janrinok> have you found your way through all that perl yet?
[18:15:11] <SemperOSS> I've not had too much time (and energy) to look at anything, so no...ish
[18:19:38] <janrinok> I cannot find your name in the list of teams, so I assume you are admin'ing for us?
[18:22:26] <SemperOSS> I'm like a backup performer with mostly admin stuff. I've been shouting from the back seat (or more like the boot — trunk if you're from across the pond) a few times but not really got my fingers dirty
[18:23:21] <janrinok> I understood boot - I'm a Brit who now lives in France.
[18:24:18] <SemperOSS> Alright -- I've not quite yet got my head around who's who and where, mostly working with Bytram and TMB, who are from the other side
[18:24:49] <janrinok> I've been here since the start and I still don't know where people actually are...
[18:25:38] <SemperOSS> Well, I'm at the English South Coast
[18:26:01] <janrinok> And I am on the N coast of France, so we are probably not too far apart
[18:26:06] <SemperOSS> Not naive, though, so maybe I'll get kicked out with Brexit
[18:26:55] <janrinok> I've got a French wife, so I reckon they will let me stay here. At least, I hope they will ;^)
[18:27:28] <SemperOSS> naive -> native
[18:28:35] <janrinok> ah, you'll be fine. I don't think that they will be kicking anyone out
[18:30:50] <SemperOSS> I honestly don't think you'll get any trouble either. The government here has not given any proper promises to EU citizens, so in principle they could kick people out if they are not contributing to the economy as such, which means students and pensioners and whatnot
[18:31:33] <janrinok> We've been here for 12 year + now, we are pretty well integrated into the French system.
[18:33:02] <janrinok> we declare our taxes, make our medical contributions, join in the French local scene etc.
[18:33:39] <SemperOSS> I don't really think that I will get into trouble as I've been here for 17 years. Unfortunately some of the years do not count as I have lived off an inheritance, thus not "contributing" to the economy, thereby being a possibly unwanted person
[18:34:18] <janrinok> if you were spending that money in the UK, you were contributing to the economy, but I understand the point you are making.
[18:36:49] <SemperOSS> Only, that's not how the British see it. I tried to get permanent residence status but was rejected due to those years. For real!
[18:38:19] <SemperOSS> But otherwise, my situation is the same as yours, work and taxes, but not really the local "scene" as I am not being overly interested in pubs, cricket, football, rugby, etc
[18:43:57] <janrinok> I can understand why you don't rave about UK beer if you come from where I think you come from. That's a country with some very famous beers attributed to it!
[18:48:43] <SemperOSS> I think you may be thinking slightly to the south of my native country
[18:50:32] <janrinok> do you understand the word Hygge?
[18:51:42] <SemperOSS> Yup, you're spot on then. How did you know?
[18:52:15] <janrinok> I have access to you email in case we need to contact you :)
[18:52:52] <SemperOSS> Ah yes, that's a right giveaway
[18:53:20] <janrinok> ... but I was trying not to give too much away for others who might see this
[18:54:36] <SemperOSS> Maybe I should have used my .com address instead? I'm not too bothered with my country of origin, to be honest, but I still appreciate it
[18:54:57] <janrinok> It's a beautiful country
[18:56:20] <SemperOSS> I agree there, albeit not with as diverse a nature as some countries
[18:57:48] <SemperOSS> Not like France, for example
[18:59:17] <janrinok> We had hoped to travel a lot more around France but unfortunately my SO is now limited to her wheelchair, so our travelling days are over. But it is time for me to go for today. I've got things I must do before I climb into my bed.
[18:59:43] <janrinok> I'm sure our paths will cross again soon. Until then, have a good one!
[18:59:55] <SemperOSS> Nice chatting to you ... laters
[19:00:01] <janrinok> u2
