[08:38:28] <FatPhil> For all of the money we are spending, NASA should NOT be talking about going to the Moon - We did that 50 years ago. They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!

[08:49:07] <FatPhil> do americans realy spel "cancelled" "canceled"?
[08:49:16] <chromas> Is he dumb at astronomy or dumb at the grammers?
[08:49:32] <chromas> He could've meant the moon is a part of the "bigger things"
[08:49:41] <chromas> Yes
[08:50:02] <FatPhil> he's good at grammar, very good, chosing "of which ..." rather than "which ... of"
[08:50:13] <chromas> We pick and choose which redundant leters we drop
[08:50:41] <FatPhil> as long as you like droping leters, kep it up.
[08:51:04] <chromas> "Ratio" is always pronounced wrong
[08:51:20] <FatPhil> that's ratist!
[08:51:48] <chromas> the "i" can't make a "sh" sound with the "t" and still "say it's name" at the same time. That's double dipping
[08:52:01] <chromas> =yt the double dip

[08:54:16] <FatPhil> zoo--o-logical
[08:54:30] <chromas> The "i" doesn't get pronounced in "rational" though
[08:54:40] <FatPhil> maybe we can negosh-i-ate this issue
[08:54:46] <chromas> and I was taught it should be zo-oligical
[08:54:59] <chromas> yes

[08:56:04] <FatPhil> zoo-o came from g/f who is USian, and I'm UKian, and we have 4 oxbridge degrees between us, so I'm pulling rank on the pronunciation.
[08:56:50] <chromas> came from her, as in you heard the pronunciation from her or she brought up the word? If the first, how do you pronouns it?
[08:57:06] * chromas assumes your pronounce
[08:57:09] <FatPhil> she just said it out loud
[08:57:27] <FatPhil> zoo-owe-lodge-ikal
[09:00:06] <chromas> the internet says both are valid. Bings before Queen's
[09:01:32] <chromas> But I wouldn't be surprised if Merrriam-Webster is considered cage linings over in the UK
[09:01:33] <FatPhil> Damn, this episode has me in tears: https://www.bbc.co.uk
[09:01:36] <upstart> ^ 03BBC Radio 4 - Friday Night Comedy from BBC Radio 4 - Downloads
[09:02:16] <FatPhil> the 1900-ish MW is a pretty solid dictionary, not sure about more recent editions.

[09:06:36] <chromas> <ciri> By results on Google.com/intl/en: npc beats russian bot by 125,000,000 to 61,500,000!
[09:07:12] <FatPhil> we Eestlased know how to protect ourselves from russian cyber attacks
[09:11:50] <chromas> What if I told you...Brexit was a Russian attack?
[09:12:07] <chromas> ah never mind
[09:12:11] <chromas> I thought that was a mispeling
[09:12:36] <chromas> We'll get you soon enough
[09:13:18] * chromas prepares the Coors Invasion of Estonia
[09:13:34] <FatPhil> I will admit, that being a charity case dangling off the side of the union, I did like the share of the UK's 350 million donation
[09:14:22] <FatPhil> but it's clearly dysfunctional, and would probably turn itself into a charity case pretty soon anyway, in which case, good riddance.
[09:14:59] <FatPhil> Can I now go all libertardian?
[09:15:12] <chromas> No, that's pure Knott Sea talk
[09:15:25] <FatPhil> The brewery I'm a part-owner of is just about to hit the no-longer-a-"small"-brewery threshold
[09:15:47] <chromas> Getting too big. Gonna have to switch to BSD
[09:15:50] <FatPhil> so our taxes will double :(
[09:16:25] <FatPhil> A couple of years ago, we (they, I wasn't an investor then), did try to get the threshold raised, but failed.
[09:16:40] <FatPhil> The annoying thing is that it's now a completely unfair playing field.
[09:17:23] <FatPhil> There are 4 breweries over the threshold. Macro 1 (owned by .dk), Macro 2 (owned by .fi), Macro 3 (owned by .dk), and us.
[09:17:29] <chromas> Can you split into two smaller breweries or do some other Hollywood Accounting™ tricks?
[09:17:39] <FatPhil> There are 50 micros who are below the threshold.
[09:18:44] <FatPhil> I guess we have .5% of the market. It's absolutely absurd that we should have to compete with guys who could buy us up and fart us out without even noticing it.
[09:19:47] <FatPhil> Of course, I'm not complaining that we've grown, merely that our tax has doubled.
[09:20:57] <FatPhil> There was a case of trying to cheat the rules in .fi a couple of years back, but the taxman saw through it. As our legal system is quite closely based in .fi's, I'm guessing there are no loopholes possible.
[09:21:48] <FatPhil> And the founders of the brewery were all pretty shrewd businessmen, so they won't have overlooked anything.

[16:03:44] * FatPhil has just created a 2-word shell script that segfaults when run with set -x!
[16:04:02] <FatPhil> #! /bin/sh
[16:04:03] <FatPhil> set -x
[16:04:03] <FatPhil> test ! ${NONEXIST}
[16:28:49] <SemperOSS> Works fine on my Debian
[16:30:50] <SemperOSS> FatPhil: My /bin/sh is a link to /bin/dash, maybe your /bin/sh is of a different breed?
[16:32:11] <SemperOSS> And I would pu quotes around ${NONEXIST}. i.e. "${NONEXIST}"
[16:34:37] <SemperOSS> pu => put
[16:34:39] <FatPhil> it's indeed a dash here too
[16:34:51] <FatPhil> As would I, it was someone else's script
[16:35:01] <FatPhil> but still, segfaulting is never the correct behaviour
[16:35:32] <FatPhil> crash disappears with quotes
[16:35:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> my /bin/sh is a link to /bin/bash and works peachy keen.
[16:37:12] <SemperOSS> It is probably because the ! operator needs an argument that is not there. Maybe it is a version problem or a compiler problem, since they act differently on different machines
[16:39:38] <FatPhil> You don't need the ${NONEXIST} - just ``test !'' crashes
[16:40:24] <FatPhil> $ sh -x -c 'test !'
[16:40:24] <FatPhil> + test !
[16:40:24] <FatPhil> Segmentation fault
[16:40:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> bad version then most likely
