[00:00:45] <AzumaHazuki> like you would not believe
[00:01:06] <AzumaHazuki> they sneer or scowl when his name is mentioned. he's clueless, tone-deaf, and somehow manages to do exactly the wrong thing every time
[00:01:33] <RandomFactor> Good management can be fantastic. Bad management can destroy your soul.
[00:02:00] <AzumaHazuki> i got told off by one of them for referring to him as Mr $LASTNAME rather than $FIRSTNAME, with "just call him $FIRSTNAME, he doesn't rate the "Mister.""
[00:02:21] <AzumaHazuki> which, coming from the guy who's basically a "Vatican II was a conspiracy!' Catholic, is like me saying "My mother has bigger balls"
[00:02:56] <AzumaHazuki> they had no excuse either. was just the "we feel you're not a good fit," thing, with security and the senior legal guy present
[00:03:32] <AzumaHazuki> well, good thing i've been jobhunting for a few weeks, have an interview tomorrow, and at worst can stay with a friend indefinitely (but in Erie...)
[00:04:33] -!- dx3bydt3 [dx3bydt3!~quassel@99.192.hl.nvz] has joined #Soylent
[00:04:51] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki: Sorry to hear about it.
[00:05:19] <AzumaHazuki> me too. i knew this was coming but it still hurts
[00:05:41] <RandomFactor> It's unpleasant. Foresightful to be that well along and already hunting though.
[00:05:49] <Bytram> Sounds like your manager is a real PITA -- getting let go may be a "blessing in disguise"
[00:05:52] <AzumaHazuki> the stupid fool...i am the only one of the six new hires who had long-term plans around this place. i told him as much.
[00:06:19] <AzumaHazuki> yeah. i hope he dies of a bleeding ulcer from what's coming though. three seniors want OUT, and one of them was one who was more or less coerced out of retirement
[00:06:48] <Bytram> what do HIS managers have to say about this? Or are they even blinder than him?
[00:06:50] <AzumaHazuki> i may be able to convince the two newbies to leave, as well as one of the veteran certified techs who's a close friend
[00:06:56] <AzumaHazuki> i don't know, but I intend to find out :)
[00:07:16] * Bytram adds popcorn to his grocery list
[00:07:23] <RandomFactor> Rule 1 - use a different mail account then your normal one. Headhunters will hound you for ages after you are already employed again :-P
[00:07:39] <Bytram> ^^ what he said
[00:07:40] <AzumaHazuki> i have almost half a dozen, yes
[00:07:49] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Lego Braille Bricks Put the Alphabet at Blind Children's' Fingertips - http://sylnt.us - ⠁⠃⠉
[00:08:18] <Bytram> better yet, get your own domain and use one email addy per application
[00:08:28] <AzumaHazuki> you know, i knew what this guy was the instant we met. he's one of perhaps 5 people i've met who can put up a "psychic wall" to the point i can only read his base waves, and every single one turned out to be a sociopath
[00:08:40] <Bytram> if the address "gets around" that tells you loads about the company's [lack of] culture
[00:09:21] <AzumaHazuki> it was really hard not to kick the shit out of him, TBH. If I'd had no prospects and nowhere to go I'd probably have done it. we're about the same size and i was wearing my boots
[00:09:57] <Bytram> I know what you mean about "reading" people. That empath on ST:TNG has nothing on me!
[00:10:09] <RandomFactor> Also if they don't want to tell you what the job is...it's selling insurance. Don't go.
[00:10:13] <Bytram> yeah, adding a battery charge will really help your job prospects. :/
[00:10:20] <AzumaHazuki> i knew what he was from the start
[00:10:44] <Bytram> be sure to get wrritten recommendations from your co-workers
[00:10:51] <AzumaHazuki> yup, all taken care of
[00:10:51] <Bytram> *written ones, even
[00:10:54] <Bytram> =)
[00:11:00] <AzumaHazuki> they are...not happy with this
[00:11:27] <RandomFactor> i didn't do that. But fortunately didn't have to pester them much. Sounds smarter.
[00:12:25] <AzumaHazuki> my friend Judy was so surprised when i told her. she was absolutely shocked
[00:12:35] <AzumaHazuki> and mostly saying things like "what the hell is he thinking?!"
[00:12:41] <Bytram> what would happen if... the pharmacy team showed up for a shift but wouldn't do any work until HE was fired?
[00:13:35] <Bytram> with suitable notice given to upper management of course... like 4 hours so they can't hire scabs in the interim
[00:13:59] <AzumaHazuki> that would never happen. i'm new and wasn't THAT popular
[00:14:04] <RandomFactor> That would give him an easy lawsuit if he was fired i think
[00:14:24] <AzumaHazuki> but i'm working with Judy to get her somewhere else to work (she hates him) and possibly nudge the two March hires to look elsewhere. they're already nervous because of how toxic it is in there
[00:14:31] <Bytram> consider it a "thought experiment" of how to deal with management that it is not possible to deal with.
[00:15:00] <AzumaHazuki> wait, not Judy, June. Judy's from my old place
[00:15:05] <Bytram> the more I am hearing, the more I am convinced that some jobs are Just. Not. Worth. It.
[00:15:23] <Bytram> Huh? I thought this was *MAY* first? ;)
[00:15:46] <AzumaHazuki> The stupid fool. The stupid fucking fool. I offered him 40+ years of unconditional loyalty, my availability is completely open, I learn fast and move faster, i put down a deposit on a place literally across the street...
[00:15:51] <AzumaHazuki> and he knows all this
[00:16:06] <Bytram> His loss.
[00:16:12] <AzumaHazuki> i even alerted him ahead of time that if i seem nervous it's due to a very abusive background, and i'll be a lot calmer after probation when things are stable
[00:16:26] <AzumaHazuki> today he said he did not believe me or trust me, and he "expects people to act the same after probation as during"
[00:16:37] <AzumaHazuki> this is discrimination
[00:16:47] <Bytram> So, be glad you are out of that hell hole, and look forward to working for a place that will actually value your contributions and expertise
[00:17:04] <Bytram> wipe your hands and walk away.
[00:17:06] <AzumaHazuki> i'm damn near broke. i may need to go to Erie just out of necessity and due to not having money
[00:17:13] <Bytram> ugh
[00:17:15] <RandomFactor> meh
[00:17:25] <AzumaHazuki> and Madokami alone knows what will happen to me there...the future is clouded. i can't see it
[00:17:41] <Bytram> =g Madokami
[00:17:42] <upstart> https://manga.madokami.al - Madokami
[00:17:47] <Bytram> ahh, k.
[00:17:59] <RandomFactor> easier option, kick ass in your interview tomorrow
[00:18:06] <AzumaHazuki> will do my best. i always do.

[00:18:30] <Bytram> =)
[00:18:36] * RandomFactor was ahead for a few seconds
[00:18:48] -!- arti|work has quit [Quit: My Mac has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
[00:18:50] <Bytram> it is, how can I put this... Random?
[00:18:52] <AzumaHazuki> ("madokami" is the fan name for the...conceptual/goddess form of Kaname Madoka, one of the magical fighters from a very, very dark, deconstructive magical-girl anime)
[00:19:06] <RandomFactor> hrmph
[00:19:13] <Bytram> RandomFactor++
[00:19:13] <Bender> karma - randomfactor: 9

[00:19:17] <Bytram> RandomFactor++
[00:19:17] <Bender> karma - randomfactor: 12
[00:19:39] <AzumaHazuki> (the idea is that ordinarily a magical girl who dies in despair becomes a "witch," which is what the MGs were recruited to fight in the first place in exchange for one wish. Madoka's wish is to break this cycle)
[00:19:40] <Bytram> now I'll leave it to random chance what happens from here
[00:20:15] <Bytram> thanks for that
[00:21:48] <RandomFactor> I'm assuming no relationship to https://www.crunchyroll.com
[00:21:49] <upstart> ^ 03Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka - Watch on Crunchyroll
[00:25:28] <RandomFactor> Yeah, gotta be different. Just doesn't match your description.
[00:47:20] -!- RandomFactor2 [RandomFactor2!~yaaic@629-71-065-58.lightspeed.tukrga.sbcglobal.net] has joined #Soylent
[01:01:47] <fnord666_> AzumaHazuki, sorry to hear about your job. I wish you the best of luck tomorrow. Kick some ass in the interview!!!
[01:03:20] <AzumaHazuki> thanks...i'll try
[01:04:31] <AzumaHazuki> my task right now is not to "become a witch" myself. there is no Madokami in reality to save those who drown in despair
[01:11:10] <Bytram> yeah, burn no bridges as you go
[01:12:16] <Bytram> When I was let go from my first job after college (what I realize now was burnout of 50+hour weeks for many months in a row) I thought it was the end of the world for me.
[01:12:25] <Bytram> now I am *glad* that it happened!
[01:13:36] <Bytram> I have had so many great jobs since then and met some absolutely amazing people and worked at several venues in Europe -- and somebody else paid for it! Would never have happened if I were still at the first place.
[01:15:36] <AzumaHazuki> we will see what happens. there's too little concrete information for me to be getting new premonitions on just yet, though I have a strong feeling i won't find something in time to stay here
[01:16:52] <Bytram> that may, or may not be true, but one's prospects for looking for a job with a negative outlook are... diminished. Other people pick up on the "vibes", too. A positive attitude can overcome much.
[01:19:23] <AzumaHazuki> right. i think most people have some degree of intuition or empathy and just don't know how to harness it
[01:19:30] -!- RandomFactor2 has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
[01:19:33] <AzumaHazuki> actually, i'm feeling better about this than i thought
[01:21:43] <Bytram> Rarely are things as bad as I fear they will be...
[01:22:00] <Bytram> As the saying goes, economists have predicted 7 of the past 3 recessions.
[01:22:24] <AzumaHazuki> at any rate, i have strictly limited time...have to make the best use of it
[01:22:58] <Bytram> I excel at detecting potential problems, but am not-so-good at accessing probabilities of their happening.
[01:23:05] <Bytram> 'zactly!
[01:23:27] <Bytram> Fear is paying interest on debts that are not yet owed.
[01:24:30] <AzumaHazuki> i can't even pay the principle. i literally cannot afford to be paralyzed by fear
[01:25:57] <Bytram> The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
[01:27:46] <AzumaHazuki> that's not true. there is much to fear and getting worse
[01:27:55] <AzumaHazuki> but while i still have the fire left in me...
[01:30:07] <Bytram> #yt ring of fire johnny cash
[01:30:08] <MrPlow> https://www.youtube.com
[01:30:47] <AzumaHazuki> that would be a good name for a spicy mexican restaurant
[01:30:52] <fnord666_> That would be the after effects of the ghost pepper burrito
[01:31:10] <Bytram> Fnord666++ My thoughts exactly
[01:31:10] <Bender> karma - fnord666: 23
[01:31:46] <fnord666_> much like speaking in haste, what crosses your lips today may burn your ass tomorrow
[01:32:01] <AzumaHazuki> loool
[01:32:30] * RandomFactor recommends Mrs. Renfro's Ghost Pepper Salsa.

[01:33:50] <upstart> https://www.renfrofoods.com - Ghost Pepper Salsa - Renfro Foods
[01:33:58] <RandomFactor> No, it's a regular salsa for dipping tortilla chips and a good tasting one. But it is....sterner than most
[01:34:04] <AzumaHazuki> ugh, probably the last day of shark week...the gas @_@ speaking of ring of fire
[01:34:23] <fnord666_> reasonably priced too
[01:34:28] <RandomFactor> bit of a smokey flavor. I like it.
[01:34:43] <fnord666_> gonna have to keep an eye out for it
[01:34:45] <Sulla> Bytram: that is because the empath in tng was worthless
[01:35:06] <RandomFactor> You can pick it up at Publix i believe. It's actually mainstream (ish)
[01:35:48] <Bytram> not arguing that point, but on a scale of sensitivity I swear I'd register in the top 0.5%
[01:35:49] <fnord666_> now when they make it with reaper peppers...
[01:36:01] <Bytram> Don't fear the reaper?
[01:36:24] <fnord666_> no, it's definitely to be feared
[01:36:38] <RandomFactor> yeah, I'm tough, but i'm not gonna eat any of the peppers in that range straight. I'm not in shape for it.
[01:36:40] <Bytram> who sang that?

[01:37:43] <fnord666_> Still have that album on vinyl!
[01:37:46] <RandomFactor> the skit that launched a thousand memes
[01:38:20] <RandomFactor> Speaking of which
[01:38:30] <AzumaHazuki> ooh, friend who manages a petsmart says they're shortstaffed...that's not a long-term proposition, but it may be good to save up for a while until i find something else
[01:38:55] <Bytram> bird in the hand
[01:38:59] <fnord666_> one door closes another door opens...
[01:39:05] <AzumaHazuki> a cat door :3
[01:39:53] <RandomFactor> When my (now teenage) daughter was young and we gave her a stereo i made a big show of checking the sound levels on the dial (went to 20) and told her she must never, ever turn it up to 11.
[01:40:05] <fnord666_> lol
[01:40:10] <RandomFactor> Years went by and a showed her the skit...
[01:40:29] <RandomFactor> the reaction was "MY WHOLE LIFE WAS BASED ON A MEME!?!?!?!?!"
[01:40:37] * Bytram has often heard of the sketch, but never actually *seen* it.
[01:40:38] <fnord666_> roflmao
[01:40:41] <Bytram> lol
[01:41:21] <fnord666_> priceless
[01:42:22] <Sulla> Really annoying how every pharmacy appears to be run just like if not worse than the grocery store it is attached to
[01:42:32] <Sulla> Every last one has terrible management
[01:43:36] * Bytram must be lucky. Always get great service at my local pharmacy... and a chain one at that: Walgreen's/
[01:44:29] <RandomFactor> same. Nothing special, but not bad either.
[01:47:13] <Sulla> Just because the service is good doesn't mean the management is good, it just means the people in the pharmacy are competent

[01:52:17] * Bytram just watched SNLs more cowbell... just not my kind of humor, I guess.
[01:53:20] <Sulla> Eg: Walgreens underpays it's employees compared to competition. Bimart won't give set schedules and only releases a week at a time, get thurs schedule to determine if you work Friday. Rite-aid sometimes does two weeks at a time, but schedules made often by a "head tech" who doesn't know anything about human resources or planning. Safeway is at the whim of store managers who know nothing about pharmacy, drug shortages and bad planning of
[01:53:20] <Sulla> employee coverage, blame shortfalls on techs not working fast enough.
[01:54:13] <Sulla> General thing across the board is pharmacists make so much more than techs, yet see techs as equals when it comes to amount of work expected to be completed. One should expect 18/hr emps and 180/hr emps to behave differently, but stores rarely plan on this line
[01:56:07] <AzumaHazuki> this stuff alone causes communism :v
[01:56:51] <Bytram> So pharmacists should do 10x the work of techs? I don't think so.
[01:57:29] <Bytram> A huge part of gaining in skill and expertise is the knowledge of what NOT to do.
[01:58:23] <Sulla> Yes, you should not expect a 18/hr employee to have same level of knowledge and punish them accordingly
[01:59:32] <Bytram> btw, who/what is "Bimart"
[02:01:08] <Sulla> West coast store
[02:03:41] <Bytram> oh. thought it might be owner of walgreen's from the context
[02:03:47] * chromas throws a year's worth of Bi-Mart coupon books at Bytram'd desk
[02:04:25] * Bytram watches them interact and suddenly see Tri-Mart coupons
[02:04:50] * chromas invents multi-mart
[02:10:59] <Sulla> Eggplant curry is great
[02:16:39] <Sulla> Bytram: finally closing on my house tomorrow. Managed to get 3.85
[02:18:15] <Bytram> how does that compare to what you wanted?
[02:18:37] <Sulla> Pretty good
[02:18:46] <Bytram> yay!!!!!
[02:19:04] <Sulla> Was amused because my grandfather, after inflation, made the same as I do back when he bought the house in 59
[02:19:35] <Sulla> Yet it cost him 1/5 of his monthly income on a 30 year loan, vs my 1/r
[02:19:44] <Sulla> 1/3
[02:20:31] <Sulla> Real estate is insane
[02:22:33] <Sulla> Did find ~10k in liens against the property from medicare, which was annoying
[02:23:22] <Sulla> Did you say you were also going through some sort of financing? Or was that someone else?

[12:32:10] <AndyTheAbsurd> this is...not that use case. Both boxes are physically in front of me (with 2 screens each); this just lets me use the keyboard/mouse that are physically conneted to one (in my case, the Windows machine) as though it was also connected to the other.

[14:37:14] <Sulla> Asked a guy at work for an apple when he was standing next to a bowl of apples in the break room. His response was to hand me his phone

[17:49:42] <AzumaHazuki> yeah, well, I got modbanned the last time i spam-modded him :/
[17:50:05] <AzumaHazuki> standards are not being applied even-handedly here, and the bias is obvious
[17:50:45] <AzumaHazuki> several posters in that thread have decided to leave outright, most of them saying "this isn't what I left Slashdot for." This place has embraced the alt-right, and is becoming another Gab.
[17:52:30] <Sulla> Yeah, typically leftists when faced with debate throw tantrums when feelings can't beat facts
[18:00:38] <AzumaHazuki> that's a joke, right?
[18:01:04] <AzumaHazuki> i've seen way the hell more "feelz" posts from the self-identified libertarians on this site
[18:04:24] <AzumaHazuki> ...granted, they like to give the *appearance* of being rational by phrasing it all as actual arguments, but a little examination shows bare assertions and fallacies all 'round

[18:21:13] <AzumaHazuki> thinking rationally about it, 1) we need a lot of staff, 2) we'd need hosting, 3) we'd probably not succeed in readership, 4) no doubt people from the green site or even here would sabotage it...
