[01:36:39] <RandomFactor> I have always found the complete and utter unability to relate cause and effect to be the hallmark of the political class.

[02:07:20] <RandomFactor> The headline is, yes. But in this case we have high salaries and other costs in California....so those have to be fed into pricing to stay afloat.
[02:08:10] <RandomFactor> But who knows. Maybe every gas station in the state is colluding to artificially inflate gas prices.
[02:08:37] <RandomFactor> Sic'm Gov!
[02:13:29] <Sulla> Need more nuclear then gas won't matter
[02:15:39] <RandomFactor> Heh... https://soylentnews.org
[02:15:40] <upstart> ^ 03SoylentNews Comments
[02:18:15] <RandomFactor> Different slant as it was more about emissions, but it also applies for electric vehicles
[02:26:00] <RandomFactor> So after I order LED replacement flourescent bulbs for the kitchen - "I HATE THAT FIXTURE, we need to replace it with something different" which quickly turns into "We need to remodel the whole kitchen". How did replacing some bulbs turn into THAT???
[02:26:29] <Sulla> Always is that way
[02:26:37] <Sulla> Same thing happened to me with my bathroom
[02:27:20] <Sulla> Went to check on something small and my foot went through the floor
[02:27:26] <RandomFactor> to be fair, it's an old school (4x4 foot Flourescent tube) fixture. But dang..
[02:27:36] <RandomFactor> Water rottage?
[02:27:57] <RandomFactor> no fun dat
[02:30:58] <Sulla> Kitchen next, bought grandma's house, 25 years no maint, and probably a decade before then too
[02:31:11] <Sulla> Central beem supporting bathroom you can poke finger through
[02:31:33] <Sulla> House had a full bathroom up against a half bath off of the master bedroom
[02:31:40] <Sulla> Floor under wall between collapsed
[02:32:06] <Sulla> Made it into one big bathroom, really great now. Contractor said it would cost 15 grand, I did it, to code, for 2k
[02:34:26] <RandomFactor> Nice. We had a rebuild here some years back of the main floor bathroom but insurance paid for it. turned out much nicer than it used to be for about the amount estimated to put it back like it was.
[02:35:40] <Sulla> That's pretty nice
[02:35:44] <RandomFactor> and to current code
[02:35:52] <Sulla> Insurance told us it was postponed maint so not covered
[02:36:00] <RandomFactor> ouch
[02:36:41] <RandomFactor> postponed maint. Never heard of that as an excuse.
[02:38:14] <RandomFactor> if the house was actively insured the whole time I would have been pretty ticked
[02:38:46] <Sulla> Yeah. Well had anyone actually done their job and paid attention they would have noticed
[02:38:54] <RandomFactor> nod
[02:39:20] <Sulla> My family with the exception of myself either kicks cans down road or does half assed repairs that end up worse than doing nothing
[02:40:16] <Sulla> I had a leak under my sink in the wall that I was working on. I took the whole thing apart and my uncle showed up one day and just nailed a board over it to cover up the hole and the leak "it will clog itself over time, not an issue"
[02:40:36] <RandomFactor> *choke*
[02:41:02] <Sulla> Yeah
[02:41:30] <Sulla> Because of time lost due to the "repair" I still haven't been able to fix it, but whole kitchens gotta go so at this point it can't rot more than it already has
[02:41:51] <RandomFactor> My favorite discovery in this house was the stove wiring. the wires to the stove were in a box. No cover. Exposed. Under the cabinet with the pots and pans. WIth the conduit just hanging loose down to the box. So every time a pot or pan was tossed in there you might ave a 220 suprise.
[02:42:19] <RandomFactor> Not even frikkin wire nuts

[02:43:44] <Sulla> Hah!
[02:44:22] <Sulla> I found a 2 foot pile of razer blades in a wall, but that's the worse I have come across
[02:44:42] <RandomFactor> That's just strange
[02:46:22] <Sulla> Apparently there are holes in the bottom of most wall insert bathroom vanitys
[02:46:53] <RandomFactor> Sure for plumbing or whatnot?
[02:46:57] <Sulla> Were used by many people to dispose razer blades safely
[02:47:13] <RandomFactor> wait, i'm not picturing this

[02:56:16] <RandomFactor> Don't even have a proper vanity anymore. They've been remodeled away.
[02:58:44] <RandomFactor> I have learned something new to amaze and confound my millennial and genX coworkers with.
[02:58:44] <Sulla> We have some large 3x6 one that came with the house in the 50s
[02:58:56] <Sulla> Three sections of mirror that is 6in deep
[02:59:12] <Sulla> Took whole thing apart, sanded, refit the screws, stained

[11:44:47] <boru> I was going to say you must have a bit of Irish in you, but then I read 'barleywine', wtf that is.
