[00:00:03] <fyngyrz> Most of mine are my own fault, so I don't really have any standing to bitch about them.
[00:00:29] <fyngyrz> overweight, sedentary, etc.
[00:00:29] <TheMightyBuzzard> first amendment means you can bitch about it even if it IS your fault
[00:00:58] <fyngyrz> nah, I have a higher authority to deal with: me.
[00:01:42] <fyngyrz> I try to keep at least the conscious varieties of hypocrisy down to a dull roar.
[00:01:55] * Bytram gets his ear plugs
[00:01:58] <Bytram> ;)
[00:02:19] <TheMightyBuzzard> nothing wrong with hypocrisy if you don't take it seriously
[00:02:38] <Sulla> more potassium to reduce those muscle problems
[00:02:42] <Sulla> it may be memes but it works
[00:02:57] <Bytram> !grab TheMightyBuzzard
[00:02:57] <Bender> Added quote 892
[00:03:01] <fyngyrz> My internal speaking impetus: "Say 'my knees hurt!'" MY other self "how about you lose some weight, you fat fuck"
[00:03:12] <Bytram> lol
[00:03:31] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, i fully plan on gettin some nanners after dinner.
[00:03:37] * Bytram is prolly about 20 pounds under the average weight for his height
[00:03:50] <fyngyrz> calcium is faster for cramps. But only solves cramps.
[00:04:00] <fyngyrz> ectomorph
[00:04:14] <Bytram> you been watchin ghost busters again?
[00:04:47] <fyngyrz> if I do, it'll be the original. The remake left me very disappointed.
[00:05:02] <fyngyrz> I don't care about the girls, I just thought it sucked.
[00:05:25] * TheMightyBuzzard is overweight for the average guy his size but only about 20lbs over going by BMI
[00:05:26] <Bytram> saw the original when it was in theaters... remake didn't sound like I would enjoy it, so let it pass
[00:05:46] <fyngyrz> some people did like it, so there's that
[00:05:53] <fyngyrz> the remake
[00:05:53] <Bytram> is good to know
[00:05:57] <Bytram> nodnod
[00:05:59] <fyngyrz> a LOT of people liked the original
[00:06:06] * Bytram included
[00:06:10] <fyngyrz> ditto
[00:06:11] <TheMightyBuzzard> more power to em. i knew it wouldn't top the original so i didn't sully my memories.
[00:06:21] <fyngyrz> I did. I'm sorry.
[00:06:23] <Bytram> literally rolled into the aisle laughing at one point
[00:06:32] <Bytram> TheMightyBuzzard: what you said
[00:06:34] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Meet the Three New Mini Frogs of Madagascar - http://sylnt.us - Mini-mum,-Mini-scule,-and-Mini-ature
[00:07:03] <Bytram> ^^ those are the genuine official names for 'em, too!
[00:07:36] <TheMightyBuzzard> aight, no rest for the weary. shower and back out the door.
[00:09:17] <Bytram> #g Magento
[00:09:18] <MrPlow> https://magento.com - "Magento empowers thousands of retailers and brands with the best eCommerce platforms and flexible cloud solutions to rapidly innovate and grow."
[00:09:19] <Sulla> Alright, so I haven't been able to find any deaths in the local "for the record" for Portland or Vancouver
[00:09:37] <Sulla> Spent several hours looking
[00:10:35] * FatPhil attempts to go to sleep again
[00:10:56] <Bytram> FatPhil: good luck
[00:11:02] <Bytram> Sulla++
[00:11:02] <Bender> karma - sulla: 9
[00:11:36] <Sulla> If I can find time tomorrow i'm going to call the coroners office for portland and for vancouver
[00:12:09] <Bytram> what are you thinking?
[00:12:12] <Sulla> If he's bedridden and stuck in a hospital from whatever method he tried to kill himself Id prefer he know SN cares
[00:12:27] <Sulla> Im still caught up on "my only hope is paramedics getting here in time"
[00:12:42] <Bytram> k
[00:12:50] <Sulla> He didn't list a mehod of death, at least that I saw
[00:13:08] <Sulla> He wouldn't be able to get ahold of a firearm with a lack of money he could use for the drugs he needed
[00:13:26] <Bytram> good point
[00:14:02] <Sulla> If it was a hanging paramedics would not arrive in time
[00:14:08] <Sulla> so I presume OD
[00:14:21] <Sulla> But how would paramedics know, did he call for help?
[00:14:25] <Bytram> sounds likely
[00:14:40] <Bytram> about the OD, that is
[00:14:51] <Sulla> its a surefire way to get a hospital room where they would see the death breaths occur
[00:15:09] <Sulla> without being discharged
[00:15:35] <Bytram> one would hope
[00:15:51] <Sulla> Its probably all for naught, but I would prefer check it out
[00:16:40] <Sulla> Plus I live within an hour of there and I'm probably the closest person (geographically) to him on the site
[00:16:57] <Bytram> didn't know you were so close
[00:17:39] <Sulla> Yeah. thats why i was kicking myself over not seeing his second to last post
[00:18:09] <Bytram> nod nod
[00:19:17] <Bytram> One could hope you could find the "magic words" to turn things around, but if there is deep depression -- well, that's a tough nut to crack... for a professional, never mind a "lay" person
[00:19:25] <Sulla> So, if for some reason he is not dead. I am close enough to get up there and help him get the paperwork he needs filed for health insurance
[00:19:32] <Sulla> It seemed pain related
[00:19:44] <Bytram> matches my recollection
[00:19:50] <Bytram> you're a good man.
[00:20:01] <Sulla> Meh
[00:20:14] <Bytram> true to form, there
[00:20:16] <Sulla> I just don't want to find out in a month that he was really alive and suffering in the hospital
[00:21:01] <Sulla> plus I saw a comment in the hypocracy thread and felt it very valid
[00:21:58] <Sulla> "Runaway has the classic American opinion of "I help people through my actions" rather than the modern liberal "why isn't someone else doing something""
[00:22:18] <Sulla> Good point, why am I personally not taking action
[00:23:56] <Bytram> though it helps my own butt, I am active in an organization where I regularly am in contact with folk who are... "struggling". I see them hurting, know what that felt like, and try to offer them some hope and guidance.
[00:25:51] <Sulla> Doesn't matter why someone is being helped as long as they received help
[00:26:37] <Sulla> Helping people is an underserved industry, so a new group entering the market to provide aid, even if they find a way to turn a profit, is still a net gain for number of people helped
[00:27:15] <Bytram> yeah, I'm with ya on that one.
[00:27:47] <Bytram> "If you ever see a turtle sitting on a fence post, there's one thing for sure. He got help."
[00:27:56] <Sulla> Yeah
[00:28:20] * Bytram is grateful for all the help he was received over the years
[00:28:47] <Bytram> sometimes (maybe even often) not in the way I wanted or expected, but effective in many cases, nonetheless.
[00:28:54] <AzumaHazuki> Sulla, just keep this in mind the next time politics comes up, okay? At risk of committing the composition fallacy here, humans build political machines and pull the levers
[00:29:01] <Sulla> I was definitely more caring before I got my current job. I got used to 70% of the 'homeless' i see being there by choice. Kids (16-18) who wanted to be their own free people and found livigin on the street in some areas isn't hard
[00:29:11] <Sulla> lol no
[00:29:24] <Sulla> I will never be okay with the argument that the government should help people instead of people helping people
[00:29:52] <AzumaHazuki> government *is* people. the phrase "cold as charity" exists for a reason. I am one of the people who helps people but i can't do a whole fuckload
[00:29:56] <Sulla> I donate 10-15% to charity depending on how lucky I am that year. i can better spend that than any burocrat
[00:29:58] <Sulla> no its passing the buck
[00:30:03] <Sulla> so you dont have to think about it
[00:30:15] <AzumaHazuki> *siiiigh* nevermind, back to our regularly-scheduled Sulla
[00:30:22] * AzumaHazuki curls up in tiny ball by fireplace
[00:30:46] * Bytram comes on over and gently lays a blanket upon her
[00:31:04] <AzumaHazuki> mrrrrgl...thanks. 'sbeen a day
[00:31:14] <Bytram> nod nod
[00:31:30] <Sulla> Spent the last 10 hours troubleshooting payroll issues
[00:31:39] <Bytram> freudian slip of mine: "Today has been one of those weeks."
[00:31:47] <Sulla> hah
[00:31:48] <AzumaHazuki> Some days friggin' feel like weeks
[00:31:53] <Sulla> yes
[00:32:18] <Bytram> isn't that what I wrote?
[00:32:53] <Sulla> some things need repeated twice
[00:33:03] <Bytram> some things need repeating
[00:33:05] <Bytram> =)
[00:33:36] * AzumaHazuki was up till stupid o'clock helping with a co-worker's computer...said co-worker apparently got the icks from one of the half dozen grandkids running around, exploded from both ends of the GI apparatus, and left early
[00:34:06] <AzumaHazuki> a reminder that no matter how much they make my ovaries squeal, little kids are basically mobile, unlicensed biowarfare labs
[00:34:12] <Bytram> ruh roh... I think I see where this is headed
[00:34:28] <Sulla> yes
[00:34:41] <Sulla> Wife is a pharm tech, what she doesn't bring home, one of my three kids does
[00:34:51] <AzumaHazuki> i run Linux so hopefully I don't get this virus, lol
[00:35:16] <Bytram> good lucks to ya both
[00:35:28] <AzumaHazuki> (as of last night, so does her computer alongside windows, for when the kid inevitably viruses it to hell and gone AGAIN with Frostwire...)
[00:35:32] <Sulla> Well, this week my youngest finally qualified for his MMR shot
[00:35:51] <RandomFactor__> i hab a thtubbed up nobe and thore throat and burny eyeth
[00:36:08] <Sulla> which is nice, where i live we have a statewide 7% unvax
[00:36:16] <Sulla> certain parts have 10+
[00:36:17] <fyngyrz> So, you want children... "Daddy, what does 'formatting 90% complete' mean?"
[00:36:35] <AzumaHazuki> "it means someone is using the heathen devil OS Windows under this roof"
[00:36:46] <fyngyrz> BURN THEM
[00:36:55] <RandomFactor__> used to be when you formatted, it just verified andyou could break out of it part way with no harm done
[00:37:12] -!- Sulla has quit [Quit: Web client closed]
[00:37:26] <Bytram> ahh, but only if you were a wimp and did the fast format.
[00:37:30] <AzumaHazuki> quick formats just nuke the inode table (ext2/3/4) or MFT (FAT/NTFS), IIRC. The data is still there until overwritten
[00:37:34] <AndyTheAbsurd> https://i.imgur.com they missed a few zeroes on that amount saved...
[00:38:31] <AzumaHazuki> i've done some very desperate data recovery from failing drives a client formatted to "fix" them with ddrescue and photorec thanks to that
[00:39:04] * Bytram remembers a time way back when ... when Norton Utilities were life savers
[00:39:37] <Bytram> qu.exe
[00:39:55] <RandomFactor__> before 'disk doctor'
[00:40:12] <Bytram> yuppers
[00:40:30] <AzumaHazuki> i told the Disk Doctor my hard drive cannot boot (doot doot doot)
[00:40:57] <Bytram> AzumaHazuki++ roar!
[00:40:57] <Bender> karma - azumahazuki: 7
[00:41:03] <AzumaHazuki> and he said skrrrt, zzzt, krk krk krk, skrrt, zzztt, zrkazrka ark rrk
[00:41:17] <AzumaHazuki> (almost direct quotes, as it were, from one old drive...)
[00:41:46] <Bytram> ooo ee ooo ah ah ting tang wallah wallah bing bang
[00:43:16] <Bytram> now I'm reminiscing about the "wonderful" sounds his old floppy drives used to make. Think Atari 800 and Commodore 64 days.
[00:43:44] <AzumaHazuki> ever see "the floppinator?"
[00:44:05] <Bytram> I belive so.
[00:44:10] <AzumaHazuki> someone rigged a bunch of floppy drives to a MIDI controller or something and uses them to play music
[00:44:13] <Bytram> hawaii 5-0
[00:44:20] <Bytram> yuppers
[00:44:34] <Bytram> toss in a couple dot matrix printers, too.
[00:44:53] <AzumaHazuki> i just about lost it listening to the Mortal Kombat theme on there. Kept hearing "TEST! Your disk" mentally in Shao Khan's voice

[19:54:00] <Sulla> Anyone else here stressed out by phones and being on the phone?
[19:55:55] <Bytram> I use mine as little as possible... that said, I needed to call up customer service a couple days ago and just settled in for the ride. Got a few games of Sudoku in during the various waits and pauses.
[19:57:45] <Bytram> I expected it would take a while so just accepting that fact made it go much easier.
[19:57:53] <Sulla> Just got off the phone with the Clark County medical examiner
[19:58:05] <Bytram> ahhh... how'd it go?
[19:58:08] <Sulla> I can confirm that a Michael Crawford died on March 24th
[19:58:18] <Bytram> ugh. nod nod.
[19:58:25] <Bytram> thank you for doing that.
[19:58:30] <Sulla> Needed to be done
[19:58:39] <Bytram> still, it's appreciated.
[19:59:09] <Bytram> say what you will about some of the folks here, but we have developed quite a community over the past 5+ years.
[19:59:21] <Bytram> thanks for being an important part of that!
[20:01:01] <Bytram> sulla: you okay?
[20:01:08] <Sulla> Yeah I'm fine
[20:01:16] <Bytram> okay. just checking
[20:01:19] <Sulla> Was just checking dates of his postings on warplife and stuff
