[00:03:53] <AzumaHazuki> that may be the single weirdest public masturbation scene i've ever witnessed
[00:04:23] <AzumaHazuki> something has gone wrong with eth though. i don't buy his "just trolling" act for a moment. maybe he started that way but it's long since eaten him alive

[01:47:17] <chromas> I remember that tale
[01:47:29] <chromas> Too much extender I guess

[03:30:28] <Sulla_> Whats the function that tells me the last time someone was active on the SN site?
[03:30:59] <chromas> I don't think there is one for the site
[03:31:09] <Sulla_> Ah
[03:31:12] <chromas> for irc you can do something like #seen or !seen
[03:31:16] <chromas> !seen Sulla
[03:31:16] <Sulla_> Ah
[03:31:19] <chromas> #seen Sulla
[03:31:19] <MrPlow> [2019-03-24 01:37:04] #Soylent <Sulla> Favorite episode was when he had to buy a new bed because some girl he hooked up with shit his bed
[03:31:24] <Sulla_> Still not seen anything from MDC
[03:32:04] <chromas> I think one of the staff sent him an admin message but I dunno if he heard back
[03:32:17] <Sulla_> Yeah bytram did last night or the day before, cant recall
[03:32:57] <Sulla_> I have been considering going on a quest to see if I can find him in portland. Would help me kill a day, a tank of gas, and a box of cigars
[03:33:06] <Sulla_> But Portland is terrifying
[03:34:11] <chromas> Just wear a hazmat suit and carry bug spray
[03:34:21] <chromas> or bear spray
[03:35:33] <Sulla_> Yeah but I would have to decontaminate my truck and I don't know if bleach is healthy for paint
[03:35:40] <Sulla_> could just burn it and buy a new one
[03:35:58] <chromas> Assuming you get out without it being stripped for parts
[03:36:20] * chromas doesn't know if that happens there, but assumes it does
[03:36:28] <Sulla_> Yeah
[03:36:47] <Sulla_> More concerned about the Antifa riots, but they haven't happened for a few months
[03:36:49] <chromas> I guess it depends on the block you stop at
[03:37:22] <chromas> Well then they're about due for another
[03:37:44] <chromas> oh wait, fake new! They're peacefully protesting, you NAzi
[03:38:15] <Sulla_> Oh damn you got me
[03:40:15] <Sulla_> Back in like 2008 when Obama was running against McCain. McCain did some town hall and was answering questions. Some guy walked up, said he was a teacher, and asked McCain about something or other. McCain gave some sort of whatever answer and the teacher cut him off with "yeah well but you're a NAZI". He put his arms up in the air and bounded out of the room like he had made some sort of great victory
[03:40:27] <Sulla_> Every day is that one comment repeated over and over again
[03:40:49] <AzumaHazuki> i dunno, Sulla, when people are out there saying the 14 words and, you know, throwing the Heil...
[03:41:09] <AzumaHazuki> i always say, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and Heils like it's 1938, it's a neo-Nazi duck
[03:41:31] <AzumaHazuki> I also always say "fuck anyone who refuses to see the obvious truth and may they fry"
[03:41:45] <Sulla_> Then go ahead and assault those people, they are no friends of mine
[03:42:00] <AzumaHazuki> you're silent, so you're complicit. sorry, but that's how it works
[03:42:06] <Sulla_> But don't go full Aristarchus and accuse me of being a Nazi because i support small business
[03:42:39] <AzumaHazuki> do you actually support small business, or do you support policies that people who TELL you THEY "support small business" are pushing?
[03:43:05] <Sulla_> I go out of my way to pay more so mom and pop stores don't go under because of megacorps
[03:43:15] <AzumaHazuki> okay, you check out on that front
[03:43:24] <Sulla_> In general hate any candidates who "support small business" because its a lie
[03:43:46] <AzumaHazuki> you are so close, so so so so close, to having the epiphany, the "come to Jesus" moment...
[03:44:13] <Sulla_> The lynch pin that will never get me there is I hate supporting people who refuse to work
[03:44:28] <Sulla_> And where I live, there are more voluntary homeless than real homeless
[03:44:55] <AzumaHazuki> bingo. that's the one. well, Sulla, any system of charity is going to have leeches and any group is going to have misfits. their impact is tiny compared to the corporate leeches
[03:45:16] <Sulla_> Now, I'm okay with the voluntary homeless, because whatever its free to do whatever you want. But don't mastabate in the public library on the chairs
[03:45:30] <Sulla_> then bitch that you do it because you aren't getting a stipend from the city like san fran
[03:45:44] <AzumaHazuki> and, interestingly enough, the people pushing policies to "punish the lazy ones" view YOU as "lazy," because you're not successful (their way), so in their eyes you too are lazy. they see you as the same as you see the chair wanker
[03:45:59] <Sulla_> Or go out of your way to shit on the sidewalk because the six full on bathrooms the city installed downtown aren't welcoming enough
[03:46:40] <AzumaHazuki> Sulla, here is an important concept: it is possible to understand close kinship with people you are utterly disgusted by. in the grand scheme of things, Mr. Library Wanker may as well be your twin brother compared to the elite
[03:48:02] <AzumaHazuki> the hook they have in you is this: "don't vote for X, the undeserving will get Free Shit(TM)!" YOU, in their eyes, are part of "the undeserving," and they take pleasure in their divide and conquer game
[03:48:04] <Sulla_> Real empathy is wanting to help someone get themselves out of their situation, not giving them a handout. Where I live you have one party that just wants to continue to give handouts without incentivising teaching how to fish, and another party that when in office was successful at reducing the number of homeless by teaching how to fish
[03:48:20] <Sulla_> Thats fine, I don't deserve free shit either
[03:48:35] <AzumaHazuki> oh, i'm not arguing for "handouts." And neither, really, is the other party you mention, if you listen closely
[03:48:41] <Sulla_> And hating the voluntary homeless does not mean I don't hate the rich
[03:48:49] <Sulla_> I just hate one more, knowing the other will continue to screw me
[03:49:10] <Sulla_> I am less offended by malice and condesention than I am by laziness and filth
[03:49:23] <AzumaHazuki> well, you know your issue at least...
[03:50:04] <AzumaHazuki> please understand, though, that this makes you the perfect little useful idiot at the polls according to the malicious condescending ones. they LOVE people like you
[03:50:18] <Sulla_> Meh. I only ever vote third party
[03:50:32] <Sulla_> And I will only ever vote third party
[03:50:48] <Sulla_> Unless we adopt a "none of the above"
[03:50:52] <Sulla_> Then I'll vote for that
[03:51:14] <AzumaHazuki> one of them is probably very literally twirling his moustache and sipping brandy and laughing at how easily manipulable people like you are. honest, hard-working, and willing to throw themselves in the meatgrinder if "the lazy" also get ground up
[03:51:57] <AzumaHazuki> it's fucking amazing how many Americans will willingly pay more in taxes in the long run, to say nothing of the moral and societal costs, to make sure "the lazy" suffer, and don't get "Free Shit(TM)"
[03:52:52] <Sulla_> What gets me is that I am willing to pay more for actual programs if they get pushed. I have only ever seen one program that worked at helping homeless and that was up in Alaska done by a conservative
[03:53:03] <Sulla_> and was immedietly ruined by the next dem that got in
[03:53:18] <AzumaHazuki> seen Salt Lake City? Turns out the majority of homeless just need...a home...to become productive
[03:53:28] <Sulla_> Free housing, job training, food pantry access. In exchange you gotta stay sober for six months.
[03:53:44] <AzumaHazuki> see, you're conflating the druggies and junkies with people who are just homeless
[03:53:46] <Sulla_> The next guy cut the second part out, and the whole thing failed
[03:54:21] <AzumaHazuki> did you know in 2010 i was homeless, Sulla? When my ex went crazy? I did not change at all as a person between 5 September and 6 September 2010. But society would have you believe i instantly turned into some kind of parasite
[03:54:29] <Sulla_> I've lived part time on minimum wage. I got rid of my phone, my car, my internet. Had enough for an appt in bad part of town and some food
[03:54:40] <Sulla_> made it work
[03:54:47] <AzumaHazuki> that has been most of my life, Sulla
[03:54:54] <AzumaHazuki> i don't drink, smoke, do drugs, none of it
[03:55:41] <AzumaHazuki> a lot more of this comes to luck than you want to admit, and you don't want to admit it because admitting it means admitting how little control you have and how BAD the situation overall is
[03:55:42] <Sulla_> Yeah, and I'm fine with a safety net regardless of who needs it. But to help someone get back up on their feet is different than a stipend or another long-term handout
[03:55:56] <Sulla_> If someone's got a mental disorder like MDC or something. Then I'm willing to talk
[03:56:06] <AzumaHazuki> they're the hardest ones to re-home
[03:56:07] <Sulla_> but they gotta try
[03:56:15] <Sulla_> at least try a little
[03:56:50] <Sulla_> I talk to a lot of the guys (homeless) in the morning waiting for the library to open and luck does play a big part in it
[03:56:58] <Sulla_> but there is a whole lot of not trying
[03:57:12] <AzumaHazuki> okay, try this: separate "homelessness" from everything else you associate with it. there is a kneejerk tendency to hear "homeless" and mentally add "drugs," "booze," "gambling," whatever
[03:57:36] <Sulla_> at the library every morning at 10 for six months because you need the bathroom, but the one day you need to be there at 1015 to get a free suit for training? na was late that day
[03:58:08] <AzumaHazuki> then judge the individuals
[03:58:31] <AzumaHazuki> you collectively lump all these people together as "the homeless" and, subconsciously maybe, assume they're ALL like the worst examples
[03:58:52] <AzumaHazuki> Sulla...that could be you. one disaster, one unlucky day, one misaimed lawsuit, and that could be you
[03:59:32] <AzumaHazuki> and then all your hard work and thrift and honesty and good habits will mean shit, because you'll be "the homeless," and no better off for all your effort than Mr. Library Wanker
[03:59:43] <AzumaHazuki> and people LIKE YOU will look down ON YOU
[03:59:43] <Sulla_> I earlier differentiated those who are homeless by fuckup and those who are homeless by choice. Excluding those who are homeless by bad luck was not intentional. But I know from dealing with people who this has happened to that its not difficult, at least in my state, to get support quickly to keep from falling through the floor
[03:59:58] <AzumaHazuki> in many states this is not the case
[04:00:11] <AzumaHazuki> i have seen so, so many friends suffer and die because of how very much not the case this is elsewhere
[04:02:33] <AzumaHazuki> i will tell you this, too: if I ever end up homeless again, I am going to find a tall building and jump off the roof. maybe it's just a lot worse in Wisconsin than Oregon, but i see what it is to be homeless here and have had enough of that for one life
[04:02:34] <Sulla_> The people I talk to on the street either have no family (all died), burned the bridges (won't talk to them), no friends or friends that aren't real friends, or lack the social ability to maintain those relationships.
[04:04:51] <AzumaHazuki> there are a few other words i want you to start associating with "homeless." The big one is "hopelessness." "Depression" is another. "Anomie" is a bit pretentious but it fits. Above all, "learned helplessness." You can only be beaten down so much before you start thining you deserve it
[04:05:30] <AzumaHazuki> and i will warn you right now: if I do end up jumping off a building i'll be cursing you and people like you all the way down, and will be waiting for you at Hell's gate when the time comes...
[04:06:11] <Sulla_> I get your point about the whole people being unable to see the other side thing. As I cannot comprehend a situation where I would fall into this problem. I have safety nets built into my family and friend relationships that have been tried and tested. I lived in a van for seven months back in 2007 and don't recall hating it (other than it was a pain in the ass to negotiate parking terms)
[04:06:11] <chromas> Put me on the list of cursees too while you're at it
[04:06:24] <Sulla_> Why not stay at a friends house for a while
[04:06:28] <Sulla_> Why not live in a van
[04:06:38] <Sulla_> winter sucked, but I just got more blankets, and that was in alaska
[04:06:47] <AzumaHazuki> no friends who can help. no money for a van. you don't understand what kind of poverty i came from
[04:06:54] <Sulla_> A buddy of mine had problems because he burned the bridges with his parents. So I had to lend him a couch
[04:07:17] <AzumaHazuki> my family exploded violently in 2012 and what's left of it is not doing well, not to mention over 1,000 miles away
[04:07:51] <AzumaHazuki> i cannot tell you how insulting and infuriating this "but have you tried?" stuff is from someone who has never experienced this shit is
[04:07:57] <Sulla_> I find myself trying to understand, but I honestly cannot comprehend a friend not lending a couch
[04:08:13] <AzumaHazuki> it's like going to Ethiopia and asking some little 15 pound kid with a build like a toast rack if he's tried just not starving
[04:09:05] <AzumaHazuki> when you have few friends and most of them are poor too...besides which, no car, and no ability to drive due to growing up poor in NYC. I got work in walking distance, thank goodness
[04:09:21] <Sulla_> I lived out of a van, not by choice, for seven months, in alaska, in the winter. I mean, I had to have the 500 for the van, and a few bucks for gas, but a part time minimum wage job covers that.
[04:09:53] <AzumaHazuki> and i'm lucky. i'm white, can pass for straight, am not terribly disabled or sick, am apparently reasonably attractive, have consistent work history, and a decent head on my shoulders
[04:10:19] <AzumaHazuki> if i were Latanya or Marisol instead of Marissa? I'd be dead, dead, dead
[04:10:48] <AzumaHazuki> if I were sick, or disabled, or not this bright, or just plain ugly? I'd be dead, dead, dead. or worse.
[04:11:26] <Sulla_> Maybe thats a thing where you are. But where I am 99% of the homeless is white men, but thats the west coasts demographic
[04:11:46] <AzumaHazuki> the west coast is the least bad place to be homeless
[04:11:59] <Sulla_> The ones I have talked to are lazy. Latinos in the same position seem to just get jobs
[04:12:23] <AzumaHazuki> do you know how many corpsesicles i see here in Madison every winter? the answer is "fewer than actually died," because boy does the city hush than shit up quick
[04:12:44] <Sulla_> Saw a lot of them up in Alaska when I was working at a car lot
[04:13:25] <AzumaHazuki> step back from any considerations of "lazy" or "self-destructive" for a moment. what does it say to you when society willingly allows these people to suffer even when it would cost less to just house most of them?
[04:13:45] <AzumaHazuki> even though it costs us more? we're literally paying more to make them suffer more because of the spectre of "Free Shit(TM)!"
[04:13:58] <Sulla_> Now Alaska is a harsh place to be homeless. You have these folks who live out in the native villages. They get given alcohol by some passing white guy and the village elder catches them drunk
[04:14:14] <Sulla_> Kicked out of the village, lose their stock option, they got no freinds, no family, gotta live in Ancorage
[04:14:20] <Sulla_> can't speak english
[04:14:31] <Sulla_> no training, no education
[04:14:37] <Sulla_> Even if not lazy, couldn't work
[04:14:40] <AzumaHazuki> they have the survival quotient of a snowball in the Malebolge, yes
[04:15:06] <Sulla_> Even their own former family in anchorage won't help them, completely kicked out
[04:15:23] <Sulla_> So guess I finally found a scenario I can understand for forced homelessness without a recourse
[04:15:28] <AzumaHazuki> that. could. be. you. except you're lucky enough to be white and speak English
[04:16:06] <chromas> need to throw some clap emojies in there
[04:16:08] <Sulla_> Well whites die faster because they freeze to death because theyd on't understand winter survival, plus its alaska so if you are white and not working you are seen as totally worthless
[04:16:17] <AzumaHazuki> Fry in Hellfire, chromas
[04:16:31] <TheMightyBuzzard> give it up, Sulla_. you're not allowed to have an opinion because you're not oppressed enough.
[04:17:03] <AzumaHazuki> you too, Uzzard. this isn't about oppression you smug fucking shitbird, these are human lives and the implications of what society's decision to throw them away is
[04:17:18] <Sulla_> Well. I'm fairly satisfied because most of this I've been trying to think of a scenario I can wrap my head around that isn't just somoenes own fault
[04:17:23] * TheMightyBuzzard plays the world's smallest fiddle
[04:17:29] <Sulla_> And the alaska natives are that situation
[04:17:32] <AzumaHazuki> you don't have the common humanity to speak relevantly about these things, Uzzard, so just shut up. this isn't even good trolling.
[04:18:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> silly girl, you make no decent arguments but spout only rage at the world not being rainbows and cupcakes.
[04:18:45] <AzumaHazuki> Sulla, again...step back from value judgments a moment. look at what Salt Lake City did for the homeless and ask them about the money they saved, *saved,* doing it
[04:18:53] <TheMightyBuzzard> you're never, ever, ever going to convince anyone like that.
[04:19:04] <AzumaHazuki> there is a Pareto law at work: 20% of the people will consume 80% of the funding, for sure
[04:19:27] -!- x0908d3b2 [x0908d3b2!~quassel@2605:ea00:1:j::qvto:oymn] has joined #Soylent
[04:19:36] <AzumaHazuki> eat shit, carrion breath. i'm not asking for the world to be cupcakes and rainbows, i'm asking for it not to be Hell on Earth for people who don't deserve it
[04:19:48] <AzumaHazuki> you aren't even worth the responses
[04:20:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> then use the gray matter between your ears. if you starve in the wealthiest nation on the planet, you either have worse luck than anyone or you're too fucking stupid to live in the first place.
[04:21:07] <AzumaHazuki> i dare you to go to Detroit and say that
[04:21:28] <AzumaHazuki> or Appalachia. they'll shoot you so full of holes I could use you for cheesecloth
[04:21:33] <TheMightyBuzzard> why the hell would i go to detroit on purpose? it's a progressive shithole.
[04:21:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> i get along fine in appalachia, thanks.
[04:21:49] <Sulla_> I hate seeing the pictures of detroit in the 50s and then detroit today
[04:21:53] <AzumaHazuki> you haven't got the stones, Uzzard
[04:22:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> darlin, your handouts for everyone bullshit is WHY detroit is a shithole
[04:22:32] <AzumaHazuki> sure, it had nothing to do with the major drivers of industry leaving the place...right
[04:23:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> and they left, why? could it be because labor became so expensive their business was no longer profitable?
[04:23:06] <Sulla_> Who would have thougth if you overtax businesses to provide gibs they leave and take the taxes with them
[04:23:14] <TheMightyBuzzard> fucking simple child...
[04:23:23] <AzumaHazuki> oh gods, Sulla, i thought you were better than this. "Gibs," really?
[04:23:25] <Sulla_> Well, i would like to tax the rich 90% again like we did under ike
[04:23:53] <AzumaHazuki> even if they only paid effectively 35 or 40%, yes, that would be a huge improvement
[04:23:53] <Sulla_> But fortunately the world recovered from WWII and competition made it so people were willing to live outside the US
[04:24:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> Sulla_, you'd put us into another great depression. they'd leave and take their money with them.
[04:24:10] <AzumaHazuki> ah, competition. you mean "globalization" Sulla...
[04:24:13] <Sulla_> 35 or 40% is still higher than what they would pay if they went oversees
[04:24:18] <Sulla_> well in the 50s they couldn't leave
[04:24:24] <Sulla_> thats why we were abel to stick it to them
[04:24:34] <Sulla_> where would you go? the husk that was europe?
[04:24:55] <AzumaHazuki> you two are advocating for a race to the bottom, which would inevitably end up as some kind of neo-feudal dystopia
[04:25:23] <AzumaHazuki> with globalization and now automation coming up, the entire paradigm of labor and how we approach it and relate to it has to change
[04:25:34] <Sulla_> If you tax the rich, they leave and take their company with them, produce there instead, and now you lost all those jobs and that whole tax base
[04:25:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> i haven't advocated anything tonight, twit. i've just said your arguments and the teachings they're based on are simplistic and farcical.
[04:25:40] <Sulla_> plus you now pay more for the same product if you need it
[04:25:46] <AzumaHazuki> look who's fucking talking, shitbird
[04:25:49] <Sulla_> now you are double poor
[04:26:01] <Sulla_> and you can't afford the social programs that you taxed more to begin with
[04:26:11] <AzumaHazuki> Sulla...the rich are jumping all over automation. those jobs are gonna disappear anyway
[04:26:15] <Sulla_> Oregon is about to increase tobacco taxes to pay for an expansion of a school program
[04:26:24] <TheMightyBuzzard> first true thing you've said
[04:26:29] <Sulla_> and it will cause every cigar shop to shut down because $1.5/stick is unaffordable
[04:26:33] <Sulla_> so the state will instead lose revenue
[04:26:50] <Sulla_> and they will have to cancel all the programs they were able to afford before they got too greedy
[04:26:56] <AzumaHazuki> watch what happens when drivers suddenly find themselves automated--shut the fuck up, Uzzard--out of existence. when blue collar labor starts droppng like flies, then we're gonna see some shit fly
[04:27:17] <TheMightyBuzzard> but jobs always disappear. and jobs are always created. unless you disincentivize job creation, you gormless tit.
[04:27:21] <Sulla_> that automation stuff is gonna be very damaging
[04:27:34] <AzumaHazuki> i'm SUPPOSED to be gormless idiot. do you even know what the word means?
[04:27:36] <Sulla_> well, you will get to the point where automation is taking more than it is giving
[04:27:42] <AzumaHazuki> "no stones." no testicles. well no shit
[04:28:13] <Sulla_> Replace 500 workers with 50 robots, but those workers will find jobs making parts for the robots, rovot service, robot transport, etc
[04:28:20] <Sulla_> but then you replace those wokers making replacement parts with robots
[04:28:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> Sulla_, automobiles were damaging to the buggy whip industry too.
[04:28:29] <AzumaHazuki> ...really? it takes 500 people to service 50 robots?
[04:28:43] <Sulla_> Just random numbers
[04:28:49] <Sulla_> the point is, over time less and less people needed
[04:29:07] <Sulla_> eventually you got one guy maintaining the robot that maintains the two robots maintaining the four robots
[04:29:12] <TheMightyBuzzard> that doesn't mean there are less jobs. that means industry grows.
[04:29:15] <Sulla_> instead of just having the original 400 l
[04:29:21] <AzumaHazuki> look, all labor saving devices by their very definition reduce the value of labor. ideally this means we'll need to work less for the same standard of living. that is not what's going to happen
[04:29:32] <Sulla_> if people aren't working they cant afford to buy goods made by robots
[04:29:42] <TheMightyBuzzard> greed ensures that enough is never enough. businesses will expand and jobs will be created.
[04:29:49] <AzumaHazuki> bingo! so it's time to completely shift how we think about economics and production, Sulla!
[04:29:58] <AzumaHazuki> what is the purpose of economic activity? why do we do it?
[04:30:10] <TheMightyBuzzard> because barter is too cumbersome
[04:30:24] <AzumaHazuki> barter is economic activity
[04:30:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> if you prefer. in that case because i don't like farming.
[04:30:45] <Sulla_> Becuase work creates meaning in life
[04:30:53] <Sulla_> and being a jack of all trades is not efficient
[04:30:53] <TheMightyBuzzard> fuck you it does.
[04:31:09] <AzumaHazuki> Aha! Good, good, I've predicted properly then. protestant work ethic
[04:31:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> fishing and my family create meaning in my life. work is a necessary evil.
[04:31:13] <Runaway1956> There is fucking goind on here?
[04:31:33] <Sulla_> eh fuck that
[04:31:43] <Sulla_> Working is awesome
[04:31:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> you're on the crack
[04:31:56] <AzumaHazuki> Okay, Sulla, now...does ALL work create meaning in life? What is meaningful about work per se? What is meaningful?
[04:31:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> or a hooker
[04:31:59] <Sulla_> I get up, I go and save the tax payers money by making things more efficent, I feel good
[04:32:27] <Sulla_> Using your mind to create or hone a product is the essence of what it means to be human
[04:32:36] <Runaway1956> Sulla is a tax collector? Jesus don't like you, dude!
[04:32:37] <TheMightyBuzzard> fuck the taxpayers. i work because i need a certain amount of things in my life to keep from being overly annoyed.
[04:32:38] <Sulla_> Any ape can fish or eat fruit or fuck
[04:32:44] <AzumaHazuki> i happen to be one of those people who likes to work and work hard, but the work itself has no meaning. it's what I'm doing--yup! digging ditches and filling them in is meaningless
[04:33:24] <AzumaHazuki> so let's refine this a bit: real work brings joy, false work breeds despair
[04:33:26] <Runaway1956> Zumi, it's the bodies in the ditches that give it meaning
[04:33:38] <Sulla_> Thats a reasonable statement
[04:33:42] <AzumaHazuki> oh god, who the hell left the dementia ward unlocked again?
[04:33:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> i may help out someone down on their luck but i when i go to my job it's for me. nobody else.
[04:34:00] <Runaway1956> eat my shorts old woman
[04:34:28] <AzumaHazuki> how? they're crusted to your skin
[04:34:34] <AzumaHazuki> and i'm like half your age
[04:34:43] <Sulla_> Alright. so back to why I logged on originally. can themightybuzzard give me an update on the last time MDC was active on the soylentnews
[04:34:49] <Runaway1956> Not so, see my journal entry "How's it hanging?"
[04:34:51] <TheMightyBuzzard> she's not old, she's a child who forgot to iron her skin.
[04:35:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> Sulla_, i can check, yeah.
[04:35:07] <AzumaHazuki> get a room, you two
[04:35:12] <Runaway1956> four days ago I think Sulla
[04:35:29] <Sulla_> How old is runaway anyways, 50s/60s?
[04:35:37] <AzumaHazuki> 62, I believe
[04:35:43] <Sulla_> much old
[04:35:54] <AzumaHazuki> or thereabouts, if i have the right person's biographical info...not entirely sure on that. yet.
[04:35:55] <TheMightyBuzzard> the 19th
[04:36:32] * TheMightyBuzzard looks at Runaway1956 and guesses he was born sometime in 1956
[04:36:46] <Sulla_> My youngest turns one next week, realized i'm like 29.
[04:36:50] * Runaway1956 laughs his ass off
[04:37:14] * Sulla_ fails at reading comprehension
[04:37:21] Sulla_ is now known as Sulla
[04:37:27] <AzumaHazuki> whoooo, boy, the haldol is wearing off...someone get Nurse Ratched in here
[04:37:38] * Runaway1956 regrets the dumming down of Murica
[04:37:40] <AzumaHazuki> perkele, how did he even get out in the first place?
[04:38:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> Runaway1956, nah, it's entertaining if you can handle a bit of nihilism
[04:38:29] <TheMightyBuzzard> or fatalism. either works i spose.
[04:38:55] <Sulla> How do you cig smokers do it? Do you just smoke in your house?
[04:39:08] <Sulla> Ive been wanting a cigar for a week now but mosquettos are out in force
[04:39:12] <TheMightyBuzzard> nah. outdoors or in the car.
[04:39:32] <AzumaHazuki> why would you harm your lungs like that? they're the only set you get.
[04:39:34] <chromas> Go hunt for standing water nearby
[04:39:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> i don't give a damn about the air quality in the house, i just don't enjoy painting walls.
[04:39:47] <Sulla> Well you don't inhale cigars
[04:40:00] <Runaway1956> not normally, anyway
[04:40:04] <Runaway1956> pipes either
[04:40:05] <AzumaHazuki> still not great for the oropharyngeal complex
[04:40:12] <TheMightyBuzzard> i do. i'm the anti-clinton
[04:40:12] <chromas> or weed if you're Elon Musk
[04:40:27] <Sulla> Well, according to Obama's anti-smoking health department
[04:40:38] <Sulla> no evidence that cigars and pipes cause cancer
[04:40:50] <Sulla> unless you are smoking like five a day or inhale
[04:41:42] <Sulla> cigar++
[04:41:42] <Bender> karma - cigar: 57
[04:41:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> pipes smell better. i'm making pipe tobacco sensi wax for the library we're putting in at the new place.
[04:41:44] <AzumaHazuki> and i trust propaganda why again?
[04:42:11] <Runaway1956> You're building a new palace?
[04:42:25] <TheMightyBuzzard> cause even obvious corporate shills are more likely to be accurate than the voices inside YOUR head.
[04:42:28] <Sulla> So when smoking cigs you get killed by the toxic chemicals and the burning smoke
[04:42:43] <AzumaHazuki> 0/10, try again...
[04:42:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> renovating an old church into a home.
[04:43:07] <Runaway1956> I like the misspelling - new palace
[04:44:07] <Runaway1956> A Buzzard's home is his palace sounds about right here
[04:44:09] <AzumaHazuki> incidentally: no one is actually a nihilist all the way through. it would be epistemologically self-defeating for one thing. "nihilism" seems to mean "selfish hedonism but here's some vaguely logicalsounding proofs, now fuck off"
[04:44:09] <TheMightyBuzzard> well it is like 4800 square feet if we don't make any use of the 2400 square foot attic that's going in.
[04:44:10] <Sulla> fun article https://articles.mercola.com
[04:44:24] <TheMightyBuzzard> so right nice but not a palace
[04:44:45] <Sulla> thats pretty massive
[04:45:11] <chromas> isn't Mercola kind of a nutter though?
[04:45:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah. and the roomie still won't let me put in a bowling lane downstairs.
[04:45:21] <Sulla> Probably
[04:45:27] <Sulla> but its a fun conspiracy theory

[04:46:03] <Bender> karma - science: 6
[04:46:19] <chromas> The problem with good science stories is nobody comments on them
[04:46:27] <Sulla> My house is 2k sqft and I don't know what to do with all of the space. Wife making me add on a garage and rooms above it so each kid gets their own room
[04:46:32] <chromas> sad_panda.mp4
[04:46:33] <Sulla> you don't need to comment on good science stories
[04:46:37] <Runaway1956> I've noticed that chromas
[04:46:37] <Sulla> they stand on their own
[04:46:43] <chromas> But comments are the whole point of the site
[04:46:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> chromas, i assign you the task of of saying they're fake bones put there to test our faith
[04:46:51] <Sulla> I'll do it
[04:46:56] <Sulla> fake china bones
[04:47:14] <Runaway1956> do they break easily?
[04:47:32] <Sulla> gotta find that article from the early 2000s where some chinese unviersity claimed they had the bible before the jews
[04:47:32] <Runaway1956> can you make them ring with a wet finger?
[04:47:40] <Sulla> melamine
[04:47:50] <Sulla> you see its a double hoax
[04:48:21] <Sulla> they are also trying to poison western paleontologist
[04:48:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> man, we're going to have four bedrooms upstairs. that leaves four more downstairs and a library and two kitchens and four bathrooms and two or three more non-bed-rooms.
[04:49:09] <Runaway1956> Hmmmm - that amounts to the servant's quarters that I once lived in
[04:49:13] <chromas> Don't forget the mini data center
[04:49:16] <Sulla> So eating a lot of crow. Back when Eth had that girl shit his bed I was giving him shit about how beds are easy to find and replace
[04:49:26] * AzumaHazuki built hers!
[04:49:31] <Sulla> Looking to get a new mattress. holy crap they have gone up in price and down in quality
[04:50:04] <Runaway1956> On a related note, Sulla - I have discovered deep pocket sheets
[04:50:23] <Sulla> I wanted to buy a local mattress. but the same garbage mattress thats 250 on amazon is 1200 local and "this price will get me in trouble so we gotta close right now before the boss gets back, i just wanna help you out"
[04:50:24] <TheMightyBuzzard> no idea. i've had mine at least a decade and a half. i'll probably keep it another ten years too.
[04:50:32] <Runaway1956> never figured out why my sheets didn't stay where I put them
[04:50:48] <Sulla> Ten years on the current one, but it got folded when I moved down from Alaska and hasn't been the same
[04:50:58] <chromas> I was hoping for sheets with storage. I'm disappointed
[04:51:00] <Sulla> deep pocket sheets?
[04:51:07] <Sulla> storage would be great
[04:51:26] <Runaway1956> for thicker mattresses, or mattress with pads on top
[04:51:31] <TheMightyBuzzard> because you use fitted sheets. use proper flat sheets that have plenty of overhang and hospital corner them bitches. it's easier than fighting elastic at least.
[04:51:38] <Sulla> sheets coming off when you are in the middle of it is a pain in the ass
[04:51:49] <Sulla> I use those elastic clips things
[04:52:06] <TheMightyBuzzard> AzumaHazuki, how'd it turn out? i remember you talking about it one night but never heard of it again.
[04:52:15] <Sulla> building a house or a data server?
[04:52:21] <AzumaHazuki> rather well. it's not elegant, but it's build like three brick shithouses
[04:52:39] <Runaway1956> WTF you need three shithouses?
[04:52:50] <TheMightyBuzzard> excellent. finesse as with everything comes with practice.
[04:53:03] <Sulla> Yeah but at least you know its yours
[04:53:11] <AzumaHazuki> 2 side rails of 4x4 doug fir, a pair of 2 by 4s for bracing, and a bunch of 1 x 4 white pine slats. floor flanges and 12" pipe with caps at the corners for legs
[04:53:12] <chromas> you gotta pump your numbers, Runaway
[04:53:35] <TheMightyBuzzard> only thing i've built lately is scaffolding but that was no fun because then i had to use it to do lots of hard work after lunch.
[04:53:49] <AzumaHazuki> i'd say it weighs about 80lb total, and the legs come off fairly easily. painted it as black as a murderer's soul too
[04:54:06] <TheMightyBuzzard> 12" diameter?
[04:54:08] <Runaway1956> If I ever manage to teach my kid that plywood has a bias, I'll be happy
[04:54:12] <AzumaHazuki> length
[04:54:16] <TheMightyBuzzard> whew
[04:54:18] <AzumaHazuki> 1" inner diameter
[04:54:24] <TheMightyBuzzard> ahh, nod nod
[04:54:50] <Sulla> Wife can't decide between home addition and building a place in the country. So I have both things drafted up and mostly priced out. Would much rather being in the country. Found land with a lake on it, could finally learn to enjoy fishing
[04:55:12] <TheMightyBuzzard> woodworking is much more enjoyable than carpentry, even if both are bending wood to your will.
[04:55:28] * AzumaHazuki is done being a lesbian stereotype now, removes flannel and puts it back in the closet :v
[04:55:31] <chromas> As not-your-wife, I'm picking the country option
[04:55:35] <Runaway1956> true - more artistry in woodworkiing
[04:55:42] <Sulla> Yeah
[04:55:55] <Sulla> is flannel a lesbian stereotype?
[04:55:56] <Runaway1956> Do I see a bromance in the making here?
[04:56:48] <AzumaHazuki> sulla, yeah
[04:56:51] <TheMightyBuzzard> no need to feel stereotyped. there're woodworking journals run by expert women woodworkers. it's only a boy's club because women don't seem to have as much fun doing it usually.
[04:57:28] <Sulla> Weird
[04:57:30] <AzumaHazuki> and i'm awful about it. i'm in love with Menard's, have like a dozen flannel shirts, an actual collection of Indigo Girls MP3s, the usual cat obsession...
[04:58:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> nothin wrong with cats or flannel.
[04:58:10] <Sulla> Well women in general like cats
[04:58:16] <TheMightyBuzzard> i can't back you on the indigo girls though
[04:58:43] <AzumaHazuki> there was a teagan and sara concert last november and i so wanted to go
[04:58:47] <AzumaHazuki> but was working
[04:59:54] <TheMightyBuzzard> mind you, fashion advice from me is never going to land you on a runway. i dress for the weather but i don't actually care what anything looks like as long as it's clean and in good repair.
[05:00:18] <Sulla> utilitarian is the way to be
[05:01:13] <Sulla> I miss carrying a pocket knife though
[05:01:17] <AzumaHazuki> i'm this weird gradient kind of thing...butch lower down, femme higher up. I love steel toed boots and heavy jeans, but also cute tops and stuff
[05:01:17] <TheMightyBuzzard> my favorite shirts are the plain brown tshirts you get in the army. they don't show stains and they're cheap as hell.
[05:01:37] <Sulla> Man steel toed boots are terrifying
[05:01:43] <Sulla> crushing = no toes
[05:02:02] <Sulla> gotta be ceramic
[05:02:22] <AzumaHazuki> thankfully nothing heavier than 30lb or so is going to drop on my feetmeats in this job
[05:02:37] <Sulla> You better knock on wood
[05:02:47] <chromas> If something heavy enough to crush your steel drops, would not having steel toes be better?
[05:03:01] <TheMightyBuzzard> hospital work? probably not but it's possible.
[05:03:04] <AzumaHazuki> i'm a pharmacy tech (for now). there's not too much heavy lifting
[05:03:06] <chromas> feetmeats++
[05:03:06] <Bender> karma - feetmeats: 1
[05:03:11] <Sulla> Ceramic will take the blow, reduce the damage, but crack before cutting off toes
[05:03:16] <TheMightyBuzzard> ahh, crossed brain wires. roger.
[05:03:55] <Runaway1956> Composite toes are the new thing - for electrical hazard
[05:04:01] <AzumaHazuki> uuuugh, for the last three days there have been like a dozen pages' worth of special orders for the NICU. Like all of Madison had babies at once, triplets and twins
[05:04:15] <chromas> How's the dark humor in the pharmacy dept compared to, say, the nursing home dept?
[05:04:32] <Sulla> wife ran out of tamiflu and a bunch of the kids stuff
[05:04:35] <AzumaHazuki> less dark, for the most part. it gets waaaaay the hell worse on the oncology ward
[05:04:37] <Sulla> got hit with a pretty bad bug
[05:04:38] <TheMightyBuzzard> leather toes is for real men. we drop something on our foot we just glare at the offending extremity until it stops hurting out of shame.
[05:05:09] <AzumaHazuki> i did go to answer a code on the maternity ward that turned out to be a drill, though. they were CPR'ing a rubber dummy
[05:05:29] <Runaway1956> The last time I did that Buzz, I went home and cried in the bathtub
[05:05:38] <chromas> was it like a newborn dummy, or?
[05:05:46] <AzumaHazuki> no, an adult one
[05:05:58] <AzumaHazuki> with no limbs but a surprisingly anatomically correct vulva
[05:06:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> Runaway1956, WWJWD
[05:06:34] <Sulla> Never thought we would get to the point where chinese sex dolls are cheaper than american made CPR dummies
[05:06:50] <AzumaHazuki> the pharmacist and i were lauging over it
[05:07:21] <chromas> Being a medical device probably jacks up the price, like wedding props
[05:07:29] <AzumaHazuki> "Well, they saved her from what I saw. She'll have a bouncing baby boy!" "Yeah and if they drop it, no need to call CPS. No shaken baby syndrome either." "...Alex, we are awful people." "You started it!"
[05:07:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> wait, anatomically correct as in you could have stuck a remote control egg inside and stood there with the remote in your pocket?
[05:07:57] <AzumaHazuki> indeedy-doo
[05:08:08] <TheMightyBuzzard> how can you NOT?
[05:08:18] <AzumaHazuki> because i left it in my sock drawer :v
[05:08:20] <AzumaHazuki> duhhh
[05:08:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> fair nuff. someone'd probably steal it anyway. danged repressed weirdos too prim to buy their own.
[05:09:35] <chromas> Press button, receive egg
[05:09:35] <AzumaHazuki> i did not know you had a vibro egg. nor did i want to know. *pours Dakin's solution in her ear
[05:10:13] <chromas> his is probably a vibrating fish
[05:10:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> i don't currently but it's a poor craftsman who doesn't spend the money on the necessary tools.
[05:11:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> when you invite someone over to a game night, it's only good manners to supply the games.
[05:12:20] <TheMightyBuzzard> chromas, how many a's in that dept?
[05:12:44] <chromas> all the a's I could fit
