[01:02:21] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - An Introduction to the ARMV8-M Architecture - http://sylnt.us - another-day-another-CPU
[01:04:01] <AndyTheAbsurd> anybody familiar with Perl's DBI and SQLite around?
[01:05:35] <AndyTheAbsurd> even if not, just in case someone wanders by later who is: I have a program using DBI to access a SQLite database, that is trying the following insert command via $dbh->do:
[01:05:38] <AndyTheAbsurd> INSERT INTO TELLS(NICK, MESSAGE, EXPIRES) VALUES ("amg", "SHOVEL don't be a butt", "08-10-2018 20:48:29.000");
[01:05:57] <AndyTheAbsurd> and it fails with the error message DBD::SQLite::db do failed: NOT NULL constraint failed: TELLS.ID at (eval 94) line 42.
[01:07:06] <AndyTheAbsurd> The same insert statement works perfectly using the sqlite command line tool.

[03:35:14] <Deucalion> chromas, is SoyCow1984 yours?
[03:35:37] <chromas> not I
[03:36:10] <Deucalion> TheMightyBuzzard
[03:37:28] SoyCow1984 is now known as fnord666_
[03:37:39] <chromas> ah
[03:37:55] <fnord666_> Yes, tis I
[03:38:30] <fnord666_> Deucalion: Is there an issue or concern?
[03:40:00] <Deucalion> piss your bot off to #test until it it is fully fledged please.
[03:40:23] <chromas> I don't think he's a bot though
[03:43:35] <fnord666_> sorry, it's not a bot.
[03:43:45] <Deucalion> Then I too am devoid of meaning. Sorry Fnord666. /me hands keys to kingdom to chromas
[03:43:53] <chromas> Ah oh
[03:44:01] <fnord666_> That's just me submitting stories for the queue for the weekend
[03:44:33] <fnord666_> But thanks for letting me know about #test if/when I do any bot development!
[03:44:47] <chromas> We just need a bot to pick which stories to sub and hand them to the sub bots
[03:45:22] <fnord666_> arthur is 1/2 way there
[03:46:30] <Deucalion> chromas, do you ever sleep?
[03:46:42] <fnord666_> nothing like an ML exercise where it learns from past stories and predicts responses for possible subs
[03:47:04] <fnord666_> I don't think he does
[03:47:26] <chromas> If I sleep I might miss something in irc
[03:48:09] <chromas> Hey, that'd be pretty neat. Just need to get a table dump from sn and do some training
[03:48:47] <chromas> While we're at it, do it with the comments too, so they can be pre-modded :)
[03:49:01] <fnord666_> There you go
[03:49:25] <chromas> and a third bot to post the comments
[03:50:12] <Deucalion> Never ends... Neural Nets were a thing back in the... ahem... its not the input data that's hard, its the inference engine. IN YOUR HEAD,
[03:51:09] <chromas> But we have so many moar gigahertz now
[03:51:17] <chromas> and more ramobytes
[03:53:00] <fnord666_> exactly. There more to Moore's law that just the law
[03:55:58] <chromas> Maybe it'd be better if the ram had built-in processing
[03:56:26] <chromas> So instead of one cpu iterating all the data nodes, they'd each do their own thing in parallel
[03:56:30] <Deucalion> OK, that'll compensate for a squichy ever morphing compensation organ. That bastard reforms while you sleep. No amount of gigaflops or backflips can even approximate passable intelligence beyond "hi". This is a good thing. And IMHO ML will never get any closer.
[03:57:42] <chromas> That's pessimistic. They can also say "hello"
[04:01:23] <Deucalion> True. Also they understand any utterance that results in a sale... deliberate or not.
[04:02:32] <Deucalion> Still no intelligence. Programmatic.
[04:04:14] <Deucalion> But then we come to the question.... Define intelligence, Define empathy
[04:04:39] <chromas> Maybe we can train an AI to define it for us
[04:07:01] <Deucalion> Or we could just switch them off, kill something and gather around it cooking on charcoal..... wait, we'll do that anyway... have done for millenia....
[04:07:57] <chromas> We could burn ipads instead of charcoal
[04:08:23] <Deucalion> Nah, taint the AI corpse
[04:09:21] <Deucalion> Need to consign the AI-ception to a quarry then coook the actual steak
[04:11:15] <Deucalion> Besides, I do not recommend burning any modern tablet in a fire on grounds of... because I have to not recommend it... fumes fire is hot smoke shit
[04:12:12] <chromas> That's how you infuse the smokey blockchain flavor though
[04:13:55] <Deucalion> If you have a 3K yo stone or clay tablet with no battery, do not set fire to it FFS.
[04:15:13] <chromas> Good point. I'd better scrounge up a battery first :D
[04:16:14] <chromas> Actually, if I remember my history correctly, I break the tablets, then make my people off each other and drink water after sprinkling gold dust in it.
[04:16:31] <chromas> Then I go get another tablet
[04:16:40] <Deucalion> Which tablet?
[04:17:04] <Deucalion> What history?
[04:17:06] <chromas> I think it was an iStone Mini
[04:18:14] <Deucalion> chromas, you're trapped here aren't you?
[04:20:12] <chromas> Just an ML bot (written in ML, even); no intelligence. Programmatic. This is a good thing.
[04:22:08] * chromas = Eliza * 3
[04:26:33] <Deucalion> :D
[04:27:09] <chromas> How does that make you feel?
[04:27:25] <Deucalion> I cried
[04:27:42] <Deucalion> Happy and sad
[04:28:03] * chromas computes this on a Commodore 64
[04:28:38] * Deucalion gifts chromas a Spectrum
[04:28:53] * chromas is now on the spectrum
[04:31:46] * Deucalion mumbles something about tears in the rain.... pretends to die.... and goes to "bed"... otherwise known as SLEEP 24
