[03:59:48] <Sulla> More books to tell me how I think? Good
[04:10:06] <Bytram> nah... was checking out the veracity of a claim made by rDT. Date of publication matched up as claimed. that's all.
[04:12:44] <Sulla> I find more and more people around me like what trump is doing but wish he would just shut up
[04:17:50] <Bytram> Yes, he is trying to do stuff, and he is doing some stuff, but just because he is doing something does not necessarily mean he is doing something good. Look what's happening to the EPA. We can now swim and fish in rivers that once were so polluted you'd have never wanted to even approach the banks of the river for the stench they reeked.
[04:18:37] <Sulla> Not disagreeing with you. Im not a big fan
[04:18:55] <Sulla> Am surprised though when former bernie people seem to like trump now
[04:20:17] <Bytram> I fail to see the attraction.
[04:21:33] <Bytram> I perceive a loud-mouthed, self-centered, person who can accept no criticism, but instead seems to live by the credos "the best defense is a good offense" and "if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, snow them with bullshit."
[04:23:11] <Sulla> Yeah
[04:23:21] <Sulla> I in general dislike anyone in government
[04:24:09] <Bytram> just the politicians, or the civil servants, too?
[04:24:19] <Sulla> While I voted third party, I prefered him to clinton. I figured a trump admin would be a four year lame duck
[04:24:26] <Sulla> Depends on the civil servant
[04:25:21] <Sulla> I despise the people who get a govt job then are so lazy they drag everyone down
[04:25:23] <Bytram> I took the view that it is "far easier to destroy than to create"... it may be but a 4-year term, but it could well undo 20 or more years of progress.
[04:25:30] <Bytram> agreed.
[04:25:47] <Sulla> My big issue in 2016 was the iran war
[04:25:59] <Bytram> otoh, there ARE people who are genuinely trying to do the best they can for the country. I try to not use an overly-broad brush.
[04:27:27] <Sulla> When I worked for state of alaska a coworker and I competed daily to be the best we can be, was just payables but we were doing 400+ invoices a day, got reported and written up because it created a "hostile workplace" for the girl only willing to do 20 a day because she was shooting heroin the night before, drinking, and too hungover to work
[04:28:02] <Sulla> State of oregon I was always pissed at making 1000/mo less than coworkes who did 1/5th my work and bitched the whole time that they were behind and needed overtime
[04:28:23] <Sulla> City of eugene is good, so far I have not encountered a single employee who doent put in at least 100%
[04:28:43] <Bytram> yep
[04:29:32] <Bytram> there's hard working folk as well as lazy folk -- seem to form their own little communties within an org.
[04:29:40] <Sulla> Yeah
[04:30:15] <Bytram> could be my experiences are atypical, or maybe my expectations are low, or maybe I just don't have that many interactions, so I don't realize how bad things really are? I dunno.
[04:30:31] <Bytram> Let's just say there are no nasty memories that come to mind.
[04:30:43] <Sulla> At state of oregon me and another guy revamped an entire system for payables and audits that saved 40 hours per branch (like 12) per month
[04:31:05] <Sulla> State of alaska dot and oregon dhs were really bad
[04:31:12] <Sulla> I cant express how bad oregon was
[04:31:37] <Sulla> Like go out of their way to make bad decisions bad, captain planet villan bad
[04:31:40] <Bytram> nice work on the efficiencies!
[04:31:53] <Bytram> sorry to hear that
[04:32:15] * Bytram thinks he'll stay away from the west coast.
[04:32:15] <Sulla> Oregon pays 5% of saved amounts on good reformations, but it would have taken a 12 month review process and preapproval
[04:32:33] <Sulla> Honestly just wanted to save taxpayers money as it was my friggin job
[04:32:38] <Bytram> and, you just saw a need... and got it done. right?
[04:32:56] <Sulla> My new employer pointed out that it probably would have been a couple hundred k
[04:33:08] * Bytram does not abide well by inefficiencies...
[04:33:45] <Sulla> Im pretty conservative but I would be okay with a majority of all liberal spending if they did it effeciently
[04:33:50] * Bytram thinks that is otherwise known as being 'lazy'
[04:34:02] <Sulla> Yeah
[04:34:55] <Bytram> In my experience, the best person to ask to work on a software project is someone who is busy and lazy and curious
[04:35:07] <Sulla> Sounds correct
[04:35:14] <Bytram> busy ==> lots of people trust them enough to give 'em more work to do
[04:35:24] <Bytram> lazy ==> finds the most efficient approach
[04:36:10] <Bytram> curious ==> will find the better, easier, more efficient way... they *know* it is there and they won't stoip until they can find it!
[04:36:19] <Sulla> When I got my job was supposed to just be fixed assets, but ended up getting made project lead for assets, receivables, billing, interfaces, and reporting
[04:36:32] <Sulla> Im finally hitting my limit of time and ability
