[11:30:33] <boru> Good grief.
[11:30:48] <Wootery> they make no mention of HTTPS. wouldn't want to let the facts get in the way of a good scary story.
[11:30:50] <boru> Typical BBC cowboys.
[11:32:02] <Wootery> or have I misunderstood? is this is about granting network access to unauthorised parties, rather than sniffing?
[11:32:53] <Wootery> think it's both
[11:32:55] <Wootery> > [nonces] can in fact be reused to allow an attacker to enter a network and snoop on the data

[15:17:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> excellent. turns out the dev hardware for my project wasn't fried. you can get the bootloader working again by pressing the reset button multiple times while powered on.
[15:17:38] <boru> Seems reasonable.
[15:18:12] <boru> You'll find most chips with a bootloader will boot it with some perfunctory GPIO/reset line wiggling at POR.
[15:18:14] <cmn32480> sounds like a great way for the end user to factory reset
[15:18:53] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, still not impressed that it regularly fails to write a new program correctly but i can work around that for the dev hardware at least.
[15:19:05] <boru> How are you flashing it?
[15:19:15] <cmn32480> he opens his trench coat
[15:19:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> don't have one. gotta unzip every time.
[15:19:50] * cmn32480 hears boru scream in agony
[15:20:00] <boru> Hmm?
[15:20:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> it has a usb connector and an onboard usb->serial converter
[15:22:29] <TheMightyBuzzard> frankly, i'd have kept looking for something else if i had to build a jtag interface. that's too complicated for the service guys to deal with.
[15:23:10] <boru> What is?
[15:23:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> taking the thing apart and keeping up with a connector they don't understand.
[15:24:50] <boru> That's not a requisite for JTAG, fwiw.
[15:25:10] <boru> You could still use USB and do the JTAG bits on board.
[15:26:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> right but the usb interface wasn't registering.
[15:27:17] <boru> Wasn't registering with which?
[15:27:26] <TheMightyBuzzard> plug it in and you got zip, zilch, nada in dmesg.
[15:28:03] <boru> DOA?
[15:28:19] <TheMightyBuzzard> the usb serial interface wasn't coming up
[15:29:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> thought so but apparently if you hit reset a few times while it's connected it ignores the program memory and just runs the boot loader.
[15:30:24] <TheMightyBuzzard> which made the usb serial interface start working again so i could flash a new program
[15:32:05] <TheMightyBuzzard> it got itself hosed by getting a partial program transfer. i'm really not impressed with the thing needing 2-3 attempts each time you go to flash a new bit of program code.
[15:35:22] <TheMightyBuzzard> still, if its usb serial interface is its only buggy bit, i can work around that.
[15:35:26] <TheMightyBuzzard> this does mean i don't have time to code SN stuff this week though.
[16:06:25] <fliptop> hey guys, i haven't heard back yet on the slashcott.* domains, they expire in a week. i'm assuming we don't want them renewed?

[17:47:29] <takyon> agree, good to see that Trump only pays lip service to G*d
[17:49:39] <TheMightyBuzzard> not really. showing he mocks folks for pushing their religious beliefs on others makes me like him a bit though.
[17:49:52] <TheMightyBuzzard> a small bit
[17:51:41] <TheMightyBuzzard> don't fret, it's okay to approve of one specific attitude a person has and still think they suck.
[17:52:55] <TheMightyBuzzard> like i'm sure both him and hillary like thin mints. doesn't make them suck less.
[17:53:58] <AndyTheAbsurd> I wouldn't bet on trump liking thin mints. or even knowing what they are.
[17:54:35] <takyon> speaking of Hillary, she just took on Assange from her loser's pulpit
[17:54:49] <takyon> could probably merge that into the assange bitcoin blurb
[17:57:17] <TheMightyBuzzard> AndyTheAbsurd, unpossible. he may have never directly interacted with a girl scout but the odds of nobody around him ever having thin mints is less than that of spontaneous combustion in fish.

[17:59:48] <TheMightyBuzzard> way ahead of yas. it's tl;dr until i get some nicotine in me though.
