[03:46:45] <Bytram> I very occasionally disagree with what you may post, but I often gain a new perspective on things, too.
[03:46:58] <Ethanol-fueled> It's always good to get that.
[03:47:25] <Bytram> besides, you still have all your fingers and toes... after that last job you had... yanno?
[03:47:38] <Bytram> glad you made it out whole and alive.
[03:47:43] <Ethanol-fueled> Yeah, and I got another, so that's good. Better paying and no assholes.

[03:48:24] <Ethanol-fueled> Go no more family in the area though. That's kind of a downer.
[03:48:24] <Bytram> some of the worst things that have happened in my life, over the course of time, became stepping stones to something better, even though I could not see that at the time.
[03:48:34] <Ethanol-fueled> Agreed, Bytram
[03:49:12] <Ethanol-fueled> Whether or not you just misunderstood it or it did legitimately suck, if you came out better in the end it was worth it.
[03:49:30] <Bytram> so, when I am up to my earballs in crap, and feeling overwhelmed, it helps for me to step back for a moment, remember what I've made it through so far, and trust that somehow, some day, this will also have value and a purpose.

[04:09:16] <Ethanol-fueled> Runaway, were they sexually harassing the horses again?
[04:09:30] * SirFinkus just saw the revenant
[04:09:40] <SirFinkus> what a depressing movie
[04:09:41] <Runaway1956> From the outside looking in, it's hard to tell if this is just SJW's trying to change the world, or there's bad shit happening there.
[04:09:59] * Runaway1956 thought the Revenant was good
[04:10:06] <Ethanol-fueled> How was the bear-rape, Fink? I heard the bear looked really fake.
[04:10:11] <SirFinkus> it was good
[04:10:14] <SirFinkus> the movie
[04:10:18] <SirFinkus> bear looked super fake
[04:10:25] <SirFinkus> but it was like 2 minutes of the 9 hour movie
[04:10:46] <Ethanol-fueled> Does the bear grunt rhythmically though?
[04:10:46] <Runaway1956> The only really wrong thing about the movie, was everyone falling into the water in subfreezing temperatures, and suffering no ill effects
[04:11:07] <SirFinkus> the log flume part was a little absurd
[04:11:28] * Runaway1956 is familiar with cold weather survival, and the Revenant was off target
[04:11:45] <SirFinkus> I cringed when they got all their shit wet every time
[04:13:03] <SirFinkus> Ethanol-fueled there's man on woman rape too
[04:13:38] <Gravis> Runaway1956: seems like a real problem. "I've heard it referred to as an 'old boys club'. Like, you support people that you want to support, and if something comes up that is a little hinky with one of your 'chosen', you do everything in your power to make that go away," the now-retired Mountie said.
[04:13:47] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Apple is Playing the Long Game on Privacy and Security - http://sylnt.us - looking-past-the-next-quarter
[04:14:21] <SirFinkus> lots of horses died
[04:14:30] <Ethanol-fueled> Hahahahaha
[04:15:13] <SirFinkus> the whole survival shit was pretty absurd
[04:15:59] <SirFinkus> guy gets mauled by a bear, falls off a waterfall, gets shot, stabbed, leg broken, arm broken, hands broken, falls off a cliff on a horse
[04:16:13] <SirFinkus> and survived apparently
[04:16:28] <Gravis> the fact that he survived get mauled by a bear was absurd to start with
[04:16:32] <SirFinkus> all in sub zero temps, also while wet
[04:16:37] <SirFinkus> that could happen
[04:16:52] <Ethanol-fueled> That's pretty ridiculous
[04:17:12] <Gravis> SirFinkus: maybe if the bear was shot after a single swipe but that's about it
[04:17:25] <SirFinkus> I'd assume over several weeks to, based on how hungry he was
[04:17:39] <Ethanol-fueled> Almost as ridiculous as enlisting Bubba Gump (rather than a photogenic Black such as Lando) in episode 7.
[04:17:50] <Gravis> when a bear pounces on you, it breaks your ribcage
[04:18:10] <Gravis> you're fucking dead right about then
[04:18:38] <Runaway1956> Well - the story is SUPPOSED TO BE based on a true story, but I guess they took a lot of "artistic liberties" with the story.
[04:18:40] <Gravis> brown bears are _heavy_
[04:19:02] * Ethanol-fueled saw some animal violence this weekend
[04:19:34] <Gravis> Runaway1956: yeah, only the names, places and events were changed. :P
[04:19:44] <Ethanol-fueled> We were landing the quadcopter and forgot to put all the dogs inside. One dumb dog comes charging the quadcopter, jumps, and tries to snap her jaw right at the line the props are spinning
[04:19:53] <Ethanol-fueled> breaks 3 props, cuts her lip, little blood
[04:20:22] <Ethanol-fueled> She's okay, the bleeding stopped within 2 minutes, but god -- dumb-ass dog.
[04:22:18] <Ethanol-fueled> Those props break like glass too, when they start chipping they become hooks and knives, like broken glass
[04:29:48] <SirFinkus> Gravis https://en.wikipedia.org

[04:34:26] <Ethanol-fueled> Nice.
[04:35:22] <Gravis> SirFinkus: "The following is based on actual events. Only the names, locations, and events have been changed." -- Anchorman
[04:35:40] <SirFinkus> yeah, the movie isn't accurate
[04:35:51] <SirFinkus> but he survived more than "a single swipe"
[04:36:07] <SirFinkus> about as well documented as any historical thing
[04:36:39] <Runaway1956> Well, the Charge of the Light Brigade was better documented.
[04:37:08] <Gravis> SirFinkus: yeah, he got knocked down
[04:37:08] <Runaway1956> Lots of witnesses to a major fuckup, and pretty accurately reported.
[04:37:53] * Runaway1956 thinks Aristarchus is trolling Eth and I at the same time . . .
[04:37:59] <SirFinkus> "Despite his injuries, Glass regained consciousness, but found himself abandoned, without weapons or equipment. He had festering wounds, a broken leg, and deep cuts on his back that exposed his bare ribs. Glass lay mutilated and alone"
[04:38:04] <SirFinkus> idk, that sounds pretty bad
[04:38:49] <Ethanol-fueled> The will to live doe
[04:39:21] <SirFinkus> at that point, I'd just say fuck it
[04:39:26] <Ethanol-fueled> Glass may have survived more if he saw modern internet gore and the shit people live through
[04:39:43] <SirFinkus> but maybe if I knew anything about living in the woods and stuff
[04:40:47] <Runaway1956> The "festering wounds" bit? No trauma center close by, no antibiotics, not even a witch doctor to attach some leeches - ehhh
[04:41:03] <SirFinkus> apparently he let maggots eat away the dead flesh
[04:41:06] <Runaway1956> Though, he did meet the one shaman
[04:41:10] <SirFinkus> I could buy it
[04:41:43] <Runaway1956> Middle of winter? Yeah, I've seen a lot of flies buzzing around in the middle of blizzards . . . . .
[04:41:53] <Runaway1956> White flies
[04:41:54] <SirFinkus> it's extraordinarily unlikely, but it nobody would give a shit if it wasn't
[04:42:14] <Runaway1956> Hmmmm - snow maggots?
[04:42:32] <SirFinkus> expedition started in June
[04:43:04] <Ethanol-fueled> Runaway, I knew a bum with a huge abscess (or whatever its called) in his leg, a huge open source the size and shape of a kielbasa on his lower calf
[04:43:53] <Ethanol-fueled> I saw recently another similar case, the fucker was cut in the head. It looks like when you leave ground beef out for a day and the texture changes
[04:44:34] <SirFinkus> the movie took several liberties, it's certainly sexier if it happens in the winter
[04:45:07] <Ethanol-fueled> Fink, but did the bear grunt or vocalize?
[04:45:12] <SirFinkus> yes
[04:45:19] <Ethanol-fueled> How did it grunt?
[04:45:20] <SirFinkus> drooled in his mouth too
[04:45:27] <SirFinkus> I started filling up
[04:45:40] <Ethanol-fueled> HAHahahahah, that's fucking nasty
[04:46:00] <SirFinkus> oh, I forgot
[04:46:04] <SirFinkus> when the bear died
[04:46:15] <SirFinkus> they both rolled down a hill, and the bear landed on him
[04:47:06] <SirFinkus> "I don't know what to do with the same with the same with the same" using predictive text
[04:49:24] <Runaway1956> My bank recently bought out by another, now it's "Bear State Bank" - and those fuckers are mauling us.
[04:49:44] <Runaway1956> $6/month "maintenance fee" on my checking.
[04:49:51] <SirFinkus> I got $160 from my credit union for getting people to join their botnet
[04:50:00] <SirFinkus> they got $80 each
[04:50:04] <Ethanol-fueled> Nice.
[04:50:17] <SirFinkus> and I haven't paid a dime to them for the ~10 years I've been with them
[04:50:37] * Runaway1956 wishes he had a bottle of Scotch on the shelf
[04:50:43] <SirFinkus> don't we all
[04:50:58] <Runaway1956> a couple shots, and I'd be ready to go back to bed
[04:50:59] <SirFinkus> oh, I got to try laphraoig
[04:51:04] <SirFinkus> fucking best thing in the world
[04:51:15] <SirFinkus> and I'm not looking up how to spell it
[04:51:27] <Ethanol-fueled> le Frog
[04:51:35] <SirFinkus> I want it inside me
[04:51:37] <Runaway1956> That shit is for special times - I'd be happy with some relatively cheap double malt
[04:51:46] <Runaway1956> as long as it wasn't pure shit
[04:52:03] <SirFinkus> cutty sark will do in a pinch
[04:52:33] <Ethanol-fueled> Scotch is shit.
[04:52:39] <SirFinkus> you're shit
[04:53:06] <Runaway1956> Nonsense - Scotch is good stuff - even the dregs at the bottom of the barrel is better than most corn liquor
[04:53:08] <Ethanol-fueled> Scotch is the drink only lawyers will admit to liking.
[04:53:40] <Ethanol-fueled> Real men drink Martinis
[04:53:41] <SirFinkus> you sound like one of those weenies that only drinks bud or miller and complains about those "craft brew hipsters"
[04:53:45] <Runaway1956> Corn liquor is only fit for burning in cars, and wheat liquor is only a tiny bit better
[04:54:00] <Runaway1956> martinis are gay
[04:54:14] <SirFinkus> some guy bought me some decent bourbon at a bar the other day
[04:54:40] <Runaway1956> people carry the damned things around, holding their pinkies out, like faggoty English tea drinkers
[04:54:50] <Ethanol-fueled> Fink, I was drinking craft shit back when hipster faggots were still drinking pabst.
[04:55:16] <Runaway1956> PBR isn't bad, as long as you're to damned drunk to notice the taste
[04:55:17] <Ethanol-fueled> And didn't make any bullshit reasons up, like "it goes good with chocolate." It was always "Because it fucks you up fast"
[04:55:30] <SirFinkus> there's your problem
[04:55:35] <SirFinkus> scotch isn't for getting fucked up
[04:55:46] <Ethanol-fueled> And when you're hanging with Rossi-swilling N****** getting fucked up fast is a race
[04:55:56] * Runaway1956 wonders if EF is a belligerent drunk
[04:56:06] <SirFinkus> you still wonder Runaway1956?
[04:56:24] <SirFinkus> I think he's demonstrated his character when intoxicated
[04:56:38] <Runaway1956> he gets drunk, and kicks the bear's ass, or the llama's ass, or the old lady's ass - it's all the same
[04:56:42] <Deucalion> FUCKING NO WAY!!! NIGGERS!
[04:56:53] <Deucalion> for example?
[04:57:03] <SirFinkus> forgot https://www.youtube.com Deucalion
[04:57:04] <snowfire> ^✓ 03Panzer rollen in Afrika vor English Subtitle - YouTube
[04:57:23] <Ethanol-fueled> That's a good vid.
[04:57:50] <Runaway1956> panzers make good targets, is what I hear
[04:57:55] <SirFinkus> or maybe https://www.youtube.com (nsfw) depending on his mood
[04:57:55] <snowfire> ^ 03GG Allin Bite It You Scum (subtitulado español) - YouTube
[04:58:37] <Deucalion> Ah yes... I must have watched it zero times. Nothing like some ancient propaganda vids to get the blood moving in the morning.
[04:58:45] <Runaway1956> Personally, I've only ever met one hostile tank, and we ran like scared little pussies
[04:58:54] <Ethanol-fueled> HAHahahahhahahah
[05:00:06] <Runaway1956> Anyone seen my cigarettes? I suspect the damned dog stole them . . .
[05:00:29] <Ethanol-fueled> Dunno, Runaway - I only smoke on weekends!
[05:01:00] <Deucalion> Surely between Runway1 and EF the top could have been popped and a molotov dropped inside.... oh wait, it's 2016 not 1946....
[05:01:33] <Runaway1956> Except for the Abrams, tanks haven't changed all THAT MUCH
[05:02:20] <SirFinkus> explosive reactive armor is neat
[05:02:25] <SirFinkus> or w/e they call it
[05:02:46] <Runaway1956> Ships, pretty much the same - biggest difference between modern destroyers and WW2 destroyers is electronics
[05:02:57] <SirFinkus> pretty big difference
[05:03:13] <Deucalion> yup - no changes there at all
[05:03:20] <Ethanol-fueled> I've been on the modern ones.
[05:03:23] <Deucalion> just some calculators
[05:04:05] <Ethanol-fueled> Well, ones that had a convincing-looking CIC. I hear that the most modern Navy ships' CICs look like community college computer labs.
[05:04:07] <Runaway1956> Ever seen gun plot on the USS Alabama? Huge room, dedicated to a primitive computer
[05:06:01] <Ethanol-fueled> Hey Runaway, were you surface?
[05:06:14] <Runaway1956> Surface line is mighty fine!
[05:06:54] <Ethanol-fueled> A Surface guy will fuck you in your ass a lot more honestly than a sub guy would.
[05:07:11] <Runaway1956> Surface most of the time, anyway - we submarined some in rough weather.
[05:07:35] <SirFinkus> like microsoft surface?
[05:07:49] * Runaway1956 notes once again the EF is warped
[05:07:53] <Gravis> SirFinkus: they are both unfortunate. ;)
[05:08:09] <Ethanol-fueled> That was an underhanded hit at the Navy I've worked with.
[05:08:54] * Deucalion waits for the ever escalating claims of having been elite sniper, stealth, behind enemy lines infiltration units acting on own discretion, insertion by alien technology air ships hovering just 10ft from the battle while remaining unseen, using weapons that are of course still under NDA.
[05:08:58] <Ethanol-fueled> Not judging runaway, but there's a lot of backstabbing in the modern surface navy. The Sub guys say that, but they go even worse.
[05:09:19] <SirFinkus> some old guy at my school was hitting on a girl just out of high school
[05:09:27] <SirFinkus> might have actually been in high school

[05:09:50] <Runaway1956> That's one reason I got out - office politics. I refused to play the game, but you can't avoid the game above E-4.
[05:09:56] <SirFinkus> he claimed he never had any relationships because he had to "be ready to go at a moment's notice"
[05:10:26] <Ethanol-fueled> Runaway, it's E-6. When you wanna make SNCO it's all politics.
[05:10:37] <SirFinkus> said he was "class 2" or some other kind of of bullshit sounding thing to justify it
[05:10:46] <Runaway1956> No, it's E-5 where the office politics begin
[05:11:20] <Runaway1956> as an E-4 I didn't have to worry about that shit - I just kicked ass, and played bodyguard to the captain
[05:11:45] <Ethanol-fueled> You had a good gig, man.
[05:12:32] <Ethanol-fueled> Yup. At that point, shit rolls above and below you.
[05:12:47] <Runaway1956> Ehhh - if I had good vision, I'd have been a tech of some sort - with shit vision, I was very limited - never did get any good technical skills out of the Navy

[05:13:54] <Ethanol-fueled> Runaway, when you're stuck in bumfuck because you can tell red from green, you wonder if it was all really worth it.
[05:14:11] <Runaway1956> So, I rode destroyers, and fucked shit up with ancient weapons.
[05:14:34] <Ethanol-fueled> You ever do an underway refueleing?
[05:15:32] <Runaway1956> Many - the Canisteo had a reputation for running over destroyers whose names began with a "B" - we were always vigilant, because we weren't sure if "Richard E. Byrd" qualified.
[05:16:03] <Runaway1956> We dropped their shit in the water twice - millions of dollars both times, given to Davey Jones.

[05:46:01] <dyingtolive> i mean, i don't want to kill her. it's probably not her fault i let her drink an entire bottle of port. i should have known that would cause issues.
[05:46:43] <Deucalion> runway1, no, last I checked I have never been near cleveland nor strangled anyone.
[05:46:49] <dyingtolive> also, from everything i understand, people isn't really that good of food. never had it, but i don't know if soup-people would be much better. might make decent stock though with all the fat that's on a human.
[05:48:08] <dyingtolive> i am seriously bummed about the croutons though.
[05:49:01] * Runaway1956 opens refrigerator, grabs some unidentifiable shit off the top shelf, and throws it in the microwave
[05:49:21] <Deucalion> dyingtolive, no idea how people taste for eating either. "like pork" is the best I can assimilate. But, for sure, letting her sleep of the port seems favourable to putting her on a spit over charcoal and carving bits off. :/
[05:49:32] * Bytram wonders how Runaway1956 is able to fit the refrigerator into his microwave

[05:49:55] <dyingtolive> haha
[05:49:59] <Bytram> g'night everyone!
[05:49:59] <Runaway1956> Heh - magic
[05:50:17] <Bytram> good that you knew what to remove from the top shelf so that the frige would fit, too!
[05:50:23] <Bytram> :D
[05:51:41] <dyingtolive> there's not much i take genuine pride in, but i am somewhat of an amazing cook.
[05:52:11] Bytram is now known as Bytram|away
[05:52:44] <dyingtolive> should have pulled them before i went on the beer run. didn't think they'd turn into hockey pucks that fast. oh well.
[05:52:51] <Deucalion> Replaying making croutons doesn't seem that much of a big deal...if you trust yourself with stupidly hot oil / fat bucket container at this time. Personally... post 4 beers, things that go ~ping~ in the microwave are preferred over a boiling oil cooking solution. Self preservation and all that.
[05:53:04] <Bytram|away> Gee, thanks! Now *I* am hungry, too!
[05:53:08] <Bytram|away> ;)
[05:54:22] <dyingtolive> i kind of go nuts cooking wise the drunker i get. usually the results are actually pretty good. i got so hammered once i didn't remmber making a curry but holy fuck when i had it the next day, there were tears of joy.
[05:55:12] * Runaway1956 shudders at the memory of curries eaten in various countries, like Morocco
[05:55:17] <dyingtolive> it's just annoying because i burned about a quarter of a homemade loaf of bread on those croutons, so it's kind of multiplicative.
[05:55:23] <Deucalion> I have some weird mental block going on... I keep reading "dying to live" as "dying olive" and imagine a withering black olive left out in the sun. I should sleep more.
[05:56:05] <dyingtolive> i have been accused of being Dying T. Olive at least twice in comments i'm aware of.
[05:58:01] <Deucalion> I feel I should mentally conjure up Popeye cartoons and spinach. Hmm... spinach and potatoes works well in a curry. Associate with a flatbread for best results.
[05:58:57] <dyingtolive> never tried that to be honest, though i've thought about potatoes more than once in that context. i normally stick with onions, peppers, carrots, and peas.
[06:00:00] <dyingtolive> i love taking it into work though. i turn around from the microwave, and the three indian guys who always eat at about the same time i do are always looking at me like "what the fuck is this white guy cooking that smells so good?"
[06:01:44] <Runaway1956> white boys can't cook, right?
[06:02:14] <Runaway1956> Wait - you don't add any cow?
[06:02:20] <dyingtolive> well, about 70% of us get fast food, the rest of us go home and eat, whatever that means.
[06:03:15] <dyingtolive> i normally do chicken in anything vaguely asian i make. i do cow specifically when doing steak or hamburger.
[06:03:15] <Runaway1956> Back in the day when I could go home for lunch, that meant knocking off a quick piece of tail, then going back to work hungry.
[06:04:28] <dyingtolive> i'd like to believe that's whats going on, but most of them are married. i can't imagine going home for what's waiting at home for them later is really worth... oh holy hsit.
[06:04:45] <dyingtolive> huh.
[06:05:00] <dyingtolive> well, my mind just expanded. that WOULD make sense.
[06:05:09] <Runaway1956> ?????????
[06:05:34] <dyingtolive> well, there's always that piece of tail you can't get when you come home to the wife.
[06:05:56] <Runaway1956> Mmmmmm - there is that too.
[06:06:22] <Deucalion> Can't go far wrong with some spice thrown in with cooked spuds and pulses (lentils / chickpeas) on rice. Chuck a roti in... good to go. Can make some stupendously good food from store cupboard shit if said cupboard contains some basic spice, some root veg and an imagination. Store cupboard != 1000x Pot Noodle.
[06:06:44] <Runaway1956> Roti? Rottweilers make good curry?
[06:07:30] <Deucalion> https://en.wikipedia.org - simple bread
[06:07:31] <snowfire> ^ 03Wiki: Roti
[06:07:33] * Runaway1956 plans to visit the animal shelter soon
[06:08:21] <dyingtolive> i'll have to try the lentils. i normally stew those. far as bread goes, i cheat and grab naan from a nearby middle eastern grocer that also has shisha.
[06:09:18] <Runaway1956> I guess I've eaten roti - one never knows for sure when he can't read the menus
[06:10:58] <dyingtolive> i think actually every indian place i've been to sells roti as naan, now that i read about it. the pictures are far closer to what i always get served, not that it's bad at all.
[06:11:11] <Deucalion> dyingtolive, pulses are cheap store items if you buy dried... and they keep forever until hydrated pretty much.
[06:12:13] <dyingtolive> huh. i'll give it a shot then. i kind of dumbfucked my way into making curry that was something i could enjoy, but i've not really plumbed the depths of what you can do with it.
[06:12:51] * Runaway1956 prefers plumbing the depths of a good looking cook
[06:13:25] <Deucalion> dyingtolive, naan and roti are different. Naan tends to be cooked in the tandoor and may have rising agents, roti is typically a flatbread done on a skillet. Neither are any good when store bought.
[06:13:35] <dyingtolive> i have one of those too. she's vegan, unfortunately, but all things considered, that's resulted in more interesting things than it has bad things.
[06:13:44] * SirFinkus has gotten good store bought naan
[06:13:48] <SirFinkus> not as good as the real stuff
[06:13:55] <SirFinkus> but certainly passable
[06:14:37] <SirFinkus> equivalent to the stuff you'd get a mediocre indian restaurants
[06:15:00] <Deucalion> because they serve store bought :D
[06:15:08] <SirFinkus> nope
[06:15:14] <Runaway1956> mediocrity is the in thing these days - America and mediocrity are almost synonymous
[06:15:16] <SirFinkus> I've seen their ovens
[06:15:21] <dyingtolive> yeah, i get that they're different. i just feel like i always see roti, rather than naan, at a restaurant around me at least, even when you order naan.
[06:15:23] <SirFinkus> the tandoori or w/e
[06:15:53] <dyingtolive> Runaway1956, indeed. i would agree with that very much.
[06:17:30] <Deucalion> tandoor... clay oven with charcoal at the base... the bread mix gets slapped on the inside walls of the bulbous oven above....
[06:17:47] <SirFinkus> that shit, might not have used charcoal
[06:18:03] <SirFinkus> but hot as fuck with clay, and they slapped the dough on the sides
[06:19:19] <Deucalion> yah, that's naan... like most bread worth eating, it needs eating fresh.
[06:19:57] <dyingtolive> STL is pretty good at having food representing the cuisine of just about every nationality i can think of, except for authentic chinese and filapino.
[06:20:16] <Deucalion> STL? sounds like a disease
[06:20:32] <dyingtolive> st louis. it's kind of a disease, in a lot of ways.
[06:20:42] <SirFinkus> isn't authentic chinese food dogs and rats and shit?
[06:20:48] <SirFinkus> I've seen some videos
[06:21:02] <dyingtolive> well, there's a lot of heads involved. fish, duck, that kind of stuff.
[06:21:14] <SirFinkus> not that a lot of US food isn't much better
[06:21:18] * SirFinkus just went to taco bell
[06:21:24] <dyingtolive> yuck.
[06:21:40] <SirFinkus> it's disgusting, but I like it

[06:21:53] <SirFinkus> despite plastic content
[06:22:14] * Deucalion ~sighs~
[06:22:47] <dyingtolive> i work with a couple chinese women. we have food days occasionaly and they bring in fantastic things that don't exist in restaurants. they're really tasty, though i've never had the heart to ask what was in them.
[06:23:15] <SirFinkus> Korean food is delicious
[06:23:20] <SirFinkus> even if it sounds disgusting
[06:23:49] <SirFinkus> mmm, rotten cabbage
[06:23:53] <dyingtolive> yeah, i grew up next to a family of koreans. they tried hard to be americanized, but man, the food they had was awesome.
[06:24:06] <SirFinkus> it all smells terrible though
[06:24:27] <Deucalion> why the hell not dyingtolive ? I'd be all over that..... "can you show me how to make this?" - you'd be surprised how accommodating people are when you compliment their food :D
[06:24:29] <dyingtolive> kimchi! ohmygodsogood!
[06:25:22] <SirFinkus> I'd love to try actual chinese food, I don't care if it's a rat or a dog, as long as it tastes good and won't make me sick
[06:25:38] <dyingtolive> maybe i should try. i just kind of assumed they wouldn't tell me. the filapinos are particularly protective about recipes. kind of thought the rest would be as such as well.
[06:25:59] <SirFinkus> dyingtolive: if the first stop is grocery stopping at the animal shelter, you're better off not knowing
[06:26:12] <dyingtolive> fair point.
[06:26:18] <Deucalion> ~sigh~
[06:26:56] * SirFinkus tries to keep his racism lighthearted
[06:27:06] <Deucalion> It's not working
[06:27:46] <dyingtolive> i always wanted to try the half developed chicken in the egg that is all the rage in the philipines. dad told me it was a delicacy.
[06:28:03] <SirFinkus> usually duck I think, bulat
[06:28:11] <SirFinkus> I've tried it

[06:28:34] <SirFinkus> I didn't have the stomach for the raw stuff
[06:28:45] <SirFinkus> basically just tastes like normal eggs
[06:28:59] <dyingtolive> balut, according to wikipedia.
[06:29:00] <SirFinkus> except with crunchy bits
[06:29:08] <SirFinkus> yeah, what I meant
[06:29:09] <Deucalion> And not "all the rage" other than for dick tourists.
[06:29:24] <SirFinkus> durian is delcious too
[06:29:41] <dyingtolive> supposedly they love it. i'm tottally being touristy about this, but i don't care.
[06:30:17] <SirFinkus> probably wouldn't stock it in the quantities they do at the supermarket I bought it from if it was a tourist thing
[06:30:21] <dyingtolive> i'm all about food. i don't care what it is. i'll try anything once, expect for rocky mountain oysters.

[06:31:04] <SirFinkus> if you ever have the chance
[06:31:06] <SirFinkus> delicious
[06:31:21] <dyingtolive> i'll try to track it down.
[06:31:30] <dyingtolive> i do love me some fruit though..
[06:31:49] <SirFinkus> surprisingly sweet, despite the smell

[06:36:12] <SirFinkus> oh, that
[06:42:20] <dyingtolive> Runaway1956, i'll have to think about that for a while. definitely interesting. something about the tone of the article bothers me, and i don't know why yet.
[06:43:23] <Runaway1956> Well - the author sorta sounds like an apologist for Tabbs, and definitely an accusatory tone against white people.
[06:44:10] <dyingtolive> yeah, i'm getting that vibe, and i'm not really normally that bothered by that, but there's something about it.
[06:44:29] <dyingtolive> i think it's: "She muddies rigid notions of good and evil, and crime and justice."
[06:46:44] <dyingtolive> i mean, they never esablished in the article whether who she killed was actually deserving of the justice of death, really. along with a bunch of other things i feel like they half start to go into but never actually expound upon. maybe that's what i get for not wanting to buy the book.
[06:47:52] <Runaway1956> Well, "justice" doesn't demand that a murder is proven or not, it only demands that a panel of twelve jurors be convinced that the right person is on trial for the right crime.
[06:48:03] <dyingtolive> i just feel like it's 12 year old book report material, not anything genuinely insightful, which is probably what i should learn to expect from modern media.
[06:49:14] <dyingtolive> oh, i looked at it as though it was her sense of justice in that regard, not the justice of her, personally. maybe i interpreted it wrongly.
[06:49:28] <Runaway1956> All in all, another point of view to be absorbed into an overall understanding of the human condition.
[06:50:00] <Runaway1956> And, that human condition is pretty damned shitty sometimes.
[06:50:12] <dyingtolive> fair to say. i hope one of these days, that's a thing we can genuinely understand.
[06:50:53] <dyingtolive> though i honestly suspect that if someone ever did actually get to the point of doing so, we would eat that person alive.
[06:51:03] <Runaway1956> Thinking about slavery is one thing, in and of itself.

[14:45:22] <TheMightyBuzzard> later though. working on the logic we need for us to be able to use pagination at all with the new stuff.
[14:45:45] <paulej72> TheMightyBuzzard: the stuff I truned off in Comments.pm might have broken it.
[14:45:57] <paulej72> sure sure
[14:46:22] <TheMightyBuzzard> could be, doubt it though. nothing in there related to pagination that i can remember seeing.
[14:47:08] <paulej72> voodoo code
[14:47:36] <TheMightyBuzzard> could be because it's archived as well, who knows
[14:48:32] <paulej72> archived only prevents commenting and modding
[14:48:46] <TheMightyBuzzard> you say that now but...
[14:50:46] <paulej72> really need to get rid of the index mode whatever that is
[14:51:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> ya, we do.
[14:51:14] <TheMightyBuzzard> mostly cause neither of us know what it is.
[14:51:56] <paulej72> would rater there be a clear cut pagination system than the stupid index mode

Just over a year ago I extracted that info along with the key information and datatypes and composted it into a single HTML table using data from dev.
